Beautifully Converted Oast House in an Idyllic Setting

Overview

About the property

A fabulous setting for a truly inviting family house. The farm is approached up a winding track and idyllic walks start from the door

It'll do you a world of good to stay on this small family farm, surrounded by soft hills and pastures. Your hosts are Charles and his Dutch wife Truus, who farm 60 organic acres. Now they have converted the big handsome oast house and it's perfect for a family of four (though six can squeeze in). On arrival you're welcomed warmly with bread, eggs and homemade cake, and maybe a bottle of farm cider; in season you can buy beef, lamb and vegetables. Downstairs opens to the dining room, kitchen, bedroom and family bathroom, while the sitting room and second bedroom are a hop up the open-tread stairs. Each bedroom is super-cosy, and circular, being in the roundel, and the decor is country traditional, with quarry tiles and wooden floors, period tapestries and open-stone walls, and the old hop press upstairs. As for the area, it'll keep you busy. You can visit Sissinghurst, Battle and Bodiam Castle, then walk to Rudyard Kipling's house along the banks of the Dudwell, or pop off to the Wheel Inn for a pint and a pie. Back home? A wood-burner, books, DVDs, satellite TV.

Family Holiday 29th July - 5th August

  • 5 of 5

We cannot rate this beautiful oast house highly enough. Fantastic family accomodation for a fabulous holiday - in the words of our 9 year old "the best holiday ever!". The accomodation was cosy and comfy (and had great wifi connection which kept our son happy as well) and the farm is just stunning. We've enjoyed great walks and did some bike riding as well as enjoying local areas of interest such as Battle Abbey and Bodiam Castle. Charles and Truus made us feel so welcome on the farm (as did Lottie the dog, the cats and the other farm animals!). Cannot wait to come back!

A well converted oast house in a paceful location

  • 5 of 5

A friendly welcome from hospitable owners and their pets. Ideally located to visit all kinds of historic places. The whole family had a comfortable stay and a lovely relaxing week. The flower seeds will remind us of Burwash in years to come. Would definitely return if we visit that area again.

A charming and relaxing country experience.

  • 4 of 5

Truus and Charles are truly lovely people. The farm is a joy; to live in the lovely valley it is spread within is a memorable/uplifting experience. Just needs a reliable wifi connection and everything would be 5*.

Idyllic, tranquil setting

  • 5 of 5

Idyllic, tranquil setting, surpassing our already high expectations, homely, well equipped accommodation nestling into the landscape with lovely gardens. Charles and Truus, Lottie the Retreiver, Oscar and Buttons, the cats, made us feel very welcome. Charles and Truus provided interesting/amusing information about the area and were on hand to answer our "city girl" questions about the livestock.
