Absolutely wonderful stay!
We had the most fantastic 6 day visit to Venice, staying at Gabriella's beautiful apartment.
I had done quite a bit of research online into properties and what won us over with this lovely place was the roof terrace and also the location. The roof terrace is just gorgeous with views over the city and it was just as I had imagined - breakfast up there in the morning and a glass of prosecco up there in the evening! The steps up to the altana are quite steep and I was a bit tentative at first but there are good handrails and by the end of it, we were skipping up there like mountain goats! The apartment itself is in a really prime location - so central with easy access to pretty much anywhere! You can walk to all the major sites very quickly and if you're making use of the vaporettas, the San Toma stop is about a 2 minute walk - very handy. We did use the vaporettas over 2 days but everywhere in Venice is accessible by foot. The apartment is very well equipped with everything you need for a really comfortable stay - it has lots of room, comfy beds, two bathrooms, very well equipped kitchen etc. There is a really good supermarket just a short walk away and we ate in a couple of nights and had some lovely meals out too. There are nice restaurants nearby and on our last two nights we discovered the wonderful Birraria La Corte in nearby Campo San Polo - the food was really, really good and the pizzas amazing! There is also a great gelato place almost next door, as well as small cafes and bars to get excellent coffee and pastries. On week days the streets below were busy with school children visiting the extremely nearby Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari (which incidentally is listed as one of Venice's Top 10 'Must Sees' in the Dorling Kindersley guide book) and students and locals going to work. The bells don't start ringing until 8am which was fine for us as we were usually up and about by then and I loved the sound of them. The area has a lovely 'lived in by locals' feel to it rather than being too touristy but is so handy for all the sites. I would most strongly recommend this property. As many other reviewers say, the lovely owner Gabriella, was the icing on the cake! She met us nearby and talked us through information for the flat and useful stuff that we might like to know. She left us a fabulous bottle of prosecco and some delicious Italian biscuits and coffee - which was a lovely touch. She's such a nice person! A wonderful stay!
