Overview

About the property

I am a house host and I will look after you. I currently have two rooms available to rent. Meals are provided at £6 per meal and picnic baskets are also available. Picnic baskets are £10 with a picnic basket and bottle of wine priced at £20. My home is nicely situated near town and country and nature reserves 5 minute walk away for country walks, fishing or picnics. The house is 16 years old and very nice. There’s a nice garden and I HAVE A DOUBLE DRIVE WAY FOR PARKING double driveway. The rooms are decorated white and clean. There’s a double which I sometimes twin for students and a lovely single room. Both rooms are very attractive and there’s a new bed in the double room. It’s ideal for a quiet break away to relax and unwind. Or if you like, night life Birmingham is just 25 minutes away by car or taxi. You can get there by public transport but it will also take a little longer. Students are welcome as I’ve hosted students from many countries before. I have done that for 7 years and I’ve enjoyed the experience. =( !!Neither property nor hostess suitable for holiday lets!! Minus 5 stars! =(

  • 1 of 5

This property is listed as a 3 bedroom house, which is true, but all the bedrooms seem to be in long-term use by others including the owner herself. She didn't really have room for ad hoc guests and had to put us in her own room.

The house is listed as non-smoking, but the hostess herself smokes and the air was thick with smoke and fragrances used to mask it. Cigarette ends were left in a bowl next to the sink and some were even blocking the sink. The kitchen is not well appointed, lacking basic necessities such as good, clean pans and the stove top was not fully functional.

The owner was a very poor host. She did not take the initiative to show us around and she seemed unwilling to provide any help at all. When she did come up to confirm which was to be our room, she sat down on our bed complaining of the heat and liberally sprayed herself with perfume. I'm actually allergic to heavy scents and chemicals and was left with this in the space I was supposed to sleep in! She also didn't make any room for our belongings and told us to hang our clothes in the next room, which was being used by a longer-term lodger who we had to wake up in order to get our things back later on!

She went to bed sometime after 7pm and seemed to expect us to stay in our room and not make a sound of any sort. My husband had to go out to the car twice to make private phone calls and to look for something, but he wasn't unduly noisy and it wasn't yet 9pm, but she barged into our room without knocking or other warning, and said to me in a very unpleasant manner, "Tell your husband to be quiet!" When I protested that he hadn't done anything, she swore at us and said, "The sooner this is over, the better!" So, we packed our things and left. We had stayed 3 hours.

We left a jacket behind and on the way back next day to collect it, I received an insulting and abusive text from the property owner calling us trash, noisy and rude, and telling us to 'get lost'. We had played no music or media, not shouted or talked loudly, nor had we banged any doors. Others have told us that we're so quiet they hardly know we're there! I'd even washed up her wine glasses and cleaned up her cat feeding area! Hospitality hosts need to be polite to their guests, even if they don't like them or they are actually horrible....

So, if you don't mind smoke and an unhelpful and abusive host, by all mean book in. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere!
