Why Harry Waugh chose Dumfries and Galloway

The sound of a fox barking, the hoot of an Owl, sounds in the night that help cool the mind. Despite being in a small village the property is 70 metres down a quiet lane, outside the back door day and night if you sit and listen or wait and see, wildlife will come to you. (hold the dog) yet you are less than 100 yards from the village pub, shop and bus stop. The bus will stop to pick up and drop off almost anywhere between New Luce or Glen Luce & Stranraer, which is very handy for walkers, birdwatchers, wild swimmers, foragers or most outdoor pursuits.

The Rhins of Galloway are one of the Best least known almost ignored areas on the tourist map of Scotland. In many ways that is ideal if you wish peace and quiet with fantastic un spoilt scenery, walks & Views.

It is slowly becoming famous for off road cycling, quiet single track road routes, dark skies & wind farms.

Wildlife is everywhere, in the air, on the ground, in the waters. Basking Shark?, Osprey?, Red Squirrel, Otter just four of the hundreds of diverse creatures that abound. Our Golden Eagles have landed with more en route as part of a restocking programme.

Pagans, Christians, Buddhist and many more faiths mix freely within a diverse culture that also allows room for individual growth. A visit to St Ninian's Cave is on many visitors itinerary as are the many festivals.

Our Stranraer Lowland Gathering grows from strength to strength. Books? Music?, Food?, we have dedicated communities and special days.

A diverse farming , hunting, fishing community helps keep the area alive and thriving with many markets and shows.

With hundreds of clubs and activities Dumfries & Galloway is the ideal spot for a long stay, most clubs have an open door policy and would make you welcome. Wild water or adventure swimming?, sea, loch, river canoeing? beach/kite surfing? or horse riding.

Whatever your activity you will be able to fill your bucket. The owner can even teach you to curl when Ice is available.

Galloway is a wonderful area to visit. Lots of great beaches and small different towns to explore. When the weather is good there is nowhere better. Lots of places to eat and drink most of whom are dog friendly.
