Overview

About the property

Ideal for one or two people. In easy reach of beaches and great walking country.

The Mowhay at Trevowhan lies on the unspoiled north coast of the Land's End Peninsula, midway between St Ives and Land's End. Trevowhan is a peaceful hamlet of granite cottages and the Mowhay, with its unbeatable sea views, stands in spacious surroundings within the owners' property. It is a few hundred metres from the Cornwall Coastal Footpath and has National Trust fields and moorland hills behind.

The Mowhay is on the upper floor of a traditional granite barn and has its own large private garden and parking area. The property has a spacious lounge with sweeping views from all windows, There is a newly modernised kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom with shower. Access is by a stepped ramp with guard rail.

Trevowhan is only a few miles from Penzance, St Michael's Mount, Sennen and St Ives and is an ideal base for exploring the area. The beautiful Portheras Beach is just over a mile away while some of the finest walking country in Cornwall is within a few minutes of The Mowhay. There is a good selection of eating places and pubs within two miles in either direction. The nearest shop is two miles to the west in the village of Pendeen and Penzance is a fifteen minute drive away.

We were looking for peace and quiet and we found it !! Friendly welcome from Des and Pauline and they were always available if we needed anything. Views from Mowhay - sea view in one direction and beautiful countryside in another.

The Mowhay is set in an ideal location for exploring the jewels of Cornwall.

The property itself is beautifully layed out and has everything you would need during your stay. Set in a nice peaceful hamlet, just right for a quiet getaway. Pendeen is only up the road and has a pub there that does the most amazing food. The local shop provides anything you might need and is open till 8pm and a chippy that does breakfast baps. My husband is a keen landscape photographer and there was plenty to keep his interest going. I enjoyed the history side of the local tin mines and going down a 300 year old tin mine. We visited Lands End and found the Minack Theatre was close by, so we had to see that and wasn’t disappointed. Only spent 4 nights here and so wish we had longer. Overall impression fantastic!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind review, Cathy. We are glad that you enjoyed your break and it is good to see that you managed to get so much into your short stay. Yes, Pendeen is a very useful village to have within such easy reach - our sons went to school there too! Do hope Nigel got some good photographs for you to remember the trip by. Kindest regards Pauline and Des

Away from it all....... .except scenery, sea and room to breathe.

We stayed in this property for a week in October, in all kinds of autumn weather, in need of ultimate peace and a feeling of being somewhere very different. Autumn in West Cornwall is utterly beautiful in a wild, russet coloured way and unlike anywhere else in the UK. The Mowhay is warm and comfortable with a very well-equipped modern kitchen. The property has absolutely everything you need, from gorgeous views to a comfortable bed. There are games and books for when the weather is simply too wild to go out. There is a shop a short drive away at Pendeen selling everything you need, including fresh bread, while the Cornish pasties from the butcher at St. Just are a must. There is superb cream tea at Rosemurgy (closes for winter in a couple of weeks,) and the cafes in St Just are excellent. Try the Cook Book Cafe which has a second hand bookshop upstairs. The Duke Street cafe in Newlyn is brilliant. The North Inn at Pendeen serves very good, straightforward pub food. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area, although it is very rural so if you need street lights and late night opening this is not for you. The night is wonderfully dark, unless the moon and stars illuminate the fields and hills around and even the sea - which, amazingly for us, they did. Pauline and Des are welcoming hosts, helpfully on site but totally unobtrusive! If you love walking, the sea, the countryside, the wildness and history of Cornwall, this property is an ideal place from which to explore it.

The cottage was well equipped, very clean, fantastic views, lovely welcome of tea, sugar, milk and Cornish biscuits on arrival. Good parking facilities, lovely private well maintained garden and helpful welcome pack. Owners Pauline and Des were very nice and helpful. Good location, for walking and going out in the car.

Would highly recommend and definitely go again.
