We had searched for many years throughout France for a rural idyll to call home and had never quite found the right one until we visited La Cour. We were instantly captivated by the wonderful old cottages and barns which still enchant us even now after enjoying many happy years here. We knew that South Brittany would always be a very special place to stay. Thankfully the previous owners were looking to retire and so our dreams became a reality.
Maria and Tony Conlan purchased this cottage in 2004
The things we love about South Brittany Cottage are that it's a wonderful place for a rural escape and is still within very easy reach of all the beaches, swimming lakes and other attractions on offer in Southern Brittany.
The local village is only a short stroll with its boulangerie and Café Bar and the surrounding area offers picturesque countryside and is designated as a protected area of natural beauty.
We make every effort to ensure that each cottage offers a charming home from home and that you enjoy a carefree and relaxing holiday. We live close by for all the help or advice you may need during your stay. We feel privileged to have welcomed many guests and always feel rewarded to have helped create lots of happy, holiday memories.
I’m not normally one to write a review but after such a wonderful holiday I feel compelled to share our experience! I currently live in France and we wanted to have a big family holiday together with our relatives from the UK and as our own house isn’t nearly big enough we decided to rent some holiday cottages together. La Cour was everything and more than we had hoped for. We stayed in Jasmine Cottage, Wisteria Barn and Woodland View Barn. Each of the properties were so very special, each has been tastefully renovated, really well-presented, very comfortable for our large group and spotlessly clean. They are all really well-equipped and offer everything needed for a family holiday, they were a perfect base for our stay. Maria and Tony have made such a good job or thinking of all the things you need. The gardens were amazing with pergolas and plenty of space for the children run around and play. The bikes were such a lovely addition, we spent a couple of days as a family on the bikes meandering around the lanes and we particularly loved the path alongside the river. The glorious weather meant lots of time at the lovely swimming lakes as well as the outdoor pools which the children loved. The area is lovely with so much to do, we did not have nearly enough time to explore everything. Thankyou Maria and Tony you were the perfect hosts, very warm and welcoming. We will certainly be back and definitely for 2 weeks next time!
We've just returned from a fabulous week in Jasmine Cottage and would highly recommend it for a family holiday in a great location. Maria and Tony gave us such a lovely warm welcome and Jasmine Cottage is a beautiful, well equipped gite with a great garden for our children and a beautiful shaded area for mealtimes. The bikes were such a big part of our special week with endless lovely quiet cycling lanes literally from the door and our son Charlie learnt to ride without stabilisers! Maria and Tony had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and relaxed and the information folders were so helpful. We loved the area and explored local lakes, swimming pools, rivers, beaches and towns. Thank you Maria and Tony for a truly wonderful holiday and we can't wait to come back! Highly recommended.
We stayed for 10 days in jasmine cottage ( along with our 4 girls ranging in age from 7 to baby). We had booked , as per our usual, quite last minute and so only the 2 bed cottage was available - on arrival we were greeted by Tony and Maria, and had our first introduction to jasmine cottage. We have travelled widely and stayed in many self catering properties and I can honestly say this was possibly the best - spotlessly clean, fully equipped , and despite us pushing the numbers to the limit it was extremely comfortable. The 'little details' were all there to provide an instant start to the holiday - something which in other places we have found doesn't happen as you have to start out washing dirty cups and finding unexpected greasy surprises in the oven! Not at jasmine cottage though - beautiful basket on table with bottle of local cider, and homemade Madeleine's, more than enough plates and glasses etc , even the BBQ was clean , with utensils and a charcoal starter pack provided, along with a box of matches. Garden was perfect with table and chairs to enjoy the result! The laundry room ( a must when travelling with several messy kids!) again super clean, and absolutely everything thought of. On the 'kids' note for those interested there was plastic plates and cutlery , a comfortable and safe high chair, and a lovely wooden cot with good quality mattress, along with a changing mat, and stair gates top and bottom. Probably the best things however were the fantastic info folders , which meant it was effortless to explore the local area and beyond, and we spent several mornings out on the ( free to use) bikes following the little highlighted maps down lanes which we would otherwise have thought were private. Tony and Maria were perfect hosts, friendly and always at hand, yet never overbearing, and our girls loved visiting the goats and chickens. We cannot wait to return , as we absolutely loved both the cottages and the area, and have so much more still to explore .
You just know you are going to have an enjoyable holiday, when first you are greeted by Maria and Tony. A very warm welcome with a delightful welcome pack of fizz and homemade cakes. We stayed in Jasmine Cottage, very comfortable with every utility catered for. This is a superb area of France to explore, we found wonderful sandy beaches, and simply gorgeous little villages .As golfers we tried three different courses, none were busy, a high standard course maintenance in each, with very helpful staff. A wonderful time, could have stayed longer. Will highly recommend to our friends, and very much look forward to a return visit. Our very warm regards to Maria and Tony, we congratulate them on making their home a lovely place to be.
My wife and I have just returned from spending a week at Jasmine Cottage which is one of four cottages that are available at La Cour in Masserac.
We arrived to a very warm welcome by Maria and Tony who own and manage the lovely cottages that they have spent many hours developing to a very high standard to accommodate their guests.
Our cottage was as described and very clean, providing everything that we needed for our stay.
The location outside the village was very quiet, private and ideal for relaxing with a good book accompanied with a glass of local cider or wine. Having relaxed and wishing to explore more of the area the location is ideal for a walk or cycle to the village or the lovely orchards and beautiful countryside. On days out and within a 40 to 60 minute drive we managed to see all the villages, market towns and eat at local restaurants. This is a good base to have to get the best of peace and quiet and involve yourself in real French way of country life.
Maria and Tony have worked hard to develop their business and both will no doubt succeed in making it work as they both have the skills and personalities to provide a facility that will satisfy their guests. They both have the passion and care to ensure your stay with them is a happy one.
Having read other reviews they are achieving it.
Tony and Maria were very friendly and welcoming on arrival. Jasmine Cottage was pretty, well maintained and immaculately kept. The kitchen was very well equipped, the furnishings comfortable and there were numerous folders full of maps and information about interesting places to visit. We had a great holiday and enjoyed the use of the bikes (a great number to choose from and easy child-friendly cycling nearby) and our enclosed garden. Our hosts were helpful, making sure everything was comfortable for our stay. We highly recommend this gite for a get-away-from-it-all break!
Begin your day by taking a gentle 5-minute stroll to the friendly local boulangerie to buy your fresh bread and croissants for breakfast. The village also offers a cafe bar and a grocery shop. Another 10 minutes away are the lively towns of Redon and Guemene-Penfao where you will find supermarkets, outdoor/indoor swimming pools, canoe hire for paddling along the River Don and pony trekking. You will enjoy wandering through local markets and the ambience of historic towns and villages. The stunning beaches of South West Brittany are within easy reach or you may prefer to enjoy the many beautiful natural swimming lakes with beaches close by. For the more energetic, the area is a walking and cycling paradise, there is also plenty of opportunity to fish or play a round of golf. For families there are many fun attraction parks, animal parks and aquariums or why not plan a day out on one of the large range of bicycles from child to adult sizes which are available free of charge, there are even child bicycle trailers and child seats for any younger members of the family. The wonderful situation of La Cour allows you to easily discover many attractions or just relax and enjoy the rural tranquility.
