Overview

About the property

Willow is ideal for relaxation, time away from the demands of modern day life.

Willow is a 50’s girl with accurate era fittings and décor. She is a very rare model which we were lucky to find, she is an all original girl, lovingly cared for by the same family from new. She is incredibly well preserved and still boasts all her original features including oak furniture, gas lamps.

Willow is situated in the lower garden tucked away in a quiet spot with her neighbours the Bluebells; our flock of six hens that lay the eggs that you will find in your welcome pack. She has a small kitchenette with the original gas cooker which has an oven and two burners, and a larder cupboard in which we have installed a modern fridge and microwave. The living area has a electric heater should the weather be inclement and a small double bed which drops down from a hideaway cupboard and has a new handmade mattress to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep. Soft as down duvet for the double bed as well as luxurious sleeping bags for children are also provided together with pillows and soft fluffy towels. There is seating on both sides around a freestanding folding table at the front of the caravan. This seating provides sleeping for the two children; please note that the length of the seating is 5’ 11”. Therefore Willow is perfect for couples; however unlike Withy cottage 1 & 2 she is not suitable for pets.

During the day with the bed folded away there is a spacious area to sit, and on the colder days with the fire on you can spend a cosy afternoon reading or playing one of the many games to be found in the cupboards. Also provided is a vast selection of watercolour paints, paper and brushes etc, together with books on learning to paint with watercolours.

Willow is just the right place for you to go back to the more relaxed way of life that she was born into and because we feel it important that you have the best experience possible we have not added some of the modern distractions such as television or Wi-Fi. Your time in Willow can be one of peace and tranquillity, a place to recharge your batteries and to slow down and take in our beautiful scenery. If you fancy doing a bit of bird watching we have provided binoculars and books on identifying birds, garden wildlife and insects.

At the far end of the garden is a small raised patio with a bench which overlooks the levels, it is a perfect spot for a bit of contemplation or just reading a good book. In the summer evenings when the sky is clear the stars are a sight to behold as we do not suffer from light pollution in the countryside. The garden is also regularly visited by bats and it is a delight to sit in the garden when it is “dumpsy dark” to watch the bats whizzing around as they catch the evening insects.

Shower facilities: the cabin is just a short distance from Willow and has a WC and shower, a sink for washing up and a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Cooking facilities: in addition to the stove in Willow, there is a fire pit with a tripod and pot as well as a barbeque with large comfortable benches around the fire where you can relax away a summers evening.

Beautiful and well-equipped vintage caravan stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent a glorious two nights in this beautiful vintage caravan, complete with our own large garden! Perfect for stargazing on a clear night with a BBQ and a fire pit, and we'd made use of the outside table and chairs for breakfast each morning. We loved meeting the three cats and sharing our garden with the lovely Bluebell hens.

The caravan itself is a well cared for piece of history with all of its original fittings and has everything you need for a quiet break. There is a lovely, clean toilet and shower block for sole use of the caravan occupants, where you can do your washing up and laundry if you choose to!

The village itself is peaceful and quiet, with a lovely old-fashioned pub just up the road. There's a large supermarket 5 mins drive away in the next town if you need to pick up supplies. Beautiful countryside is plentiful for walking and exploring the area.

Mary and her husband were fantastic hosts, providing plenty of advice and tips along with plenty of firemaking supplies! Thank you for a perfect weekend :)

Further Details:

An ancient market town it retains much of its old world charm and is unique among the many ancient settlements in this remote unspoiled area known as the Somerset Levels & Moors.

Langport is situated on the banks of the River Parrett and this has played a significant part in its fascinating history. Its role as an important trading post in the 18th century is reflected in its fine architecture and in the historic wharfs and warehouses now being sympathetically restored. The attractive river area is now important for leisure and tourism.

Old Langport was situated on the hill at the eastern end of Bow Street, a strategically defensive position. The Celts and Romans came as did the Saxons who had a fortress here. By this time, Langport was an important river port fortified by the Normans. Once a borough with a portreeve, (a mayor or principle magistrate), a corporation and a Town Hall dating back to 1735, Langport has retained much of its medieval character. Many businesses were founded on the strength of the river and the sea but the coming of the railway in 1853 resulted in its rapid decline and the long tradition of the river trade eventually ceased.

The site of All Saints Church was the original settlement with the grave of Walter Bagshot is in the church yard. He became a famous economist, born in Langport, who helped form today's international monetary system. His forbears in the 18th Century established the Langport Bank of Stuckey & Co. connecting Langport to London's financial centre. Langport had had its own mint since Saxon times which brought great prosperity to the town for 150 years.

Langport is a small town of great contrasts between the tightly defined spaces within the town streets and the open green levels where in summer cattle graze on rich pastures. These meadows support many of the original marsh plants which in turn provide habitats for many varieties of plant and animal life. In winter the flooded moors are scenes of unprecedented beauty.
