About the property

A detached and private house with excellent facilities for families

Our detached home was built in the 1850s and has been beautifully modernised. Plenty of living space with bedrooms and both bathrooms equipped to a high standard, wireless internet, UK satellite and French freeview TV and excellent cooking facilities. The garden extends to around 1 acre and the property is totally private. The house is set in fields but is a pleasant 5-min walk to a small town with shops and restaurants.

We have a travel cot, high chair, potty and kids' plates, bowls and cutlery.

Beds are ready on arrival; bathrooms are equipped with towels and soaps. In the kitchen you will find tea, coffee, oil, salt, pepper, vinegar, sugar, as well as tea towels, sponges and cleaning products.

About Greg Parker

We're the Parker family and we split our time between the Barn and Bordeaux.

This photo was taken at the Lac d'Aignan, about 15 mins from the Barn and an excellent place for freshwater swimming, with lifeguards present in July and August.

Greg Parker purchased this farmhouse in 2015

Why Greg Parker chose Gers

The Barn is a great place to stay because it is well equipped (especially for families) and the bedrooms are large and spacious. It's close to Riscle, with all of its amenities, but offer space and privacy.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We love the large bedrooms and bathrooms, and the privacy of the whole house.

The downstairs bathroom has a very quirky shower - we'll let you discover it for yourselves!

Peaceful Rustic Farmhouse in Quiet Location

  • 4 of 5

We were met by James the property manager who gave us a warm welcome and showed us around the farmhouse. He is only a phone call away if any problems arise. Fortunately we did not need to contact him during our stay. The large kitchen/diner is well equipped. Adjacent is the lounge with TV. Only French channels when we visited. We had our lap top so were content to use it occasionally for watching DVD's.

Upstairs there are three good sized bedrooms. There is no hanging space for clothes in any of the bedrooms, but loads of shelving and drawers. The master is en suite with bath and hand held shower. An attachment on the wall to hold the shower would be a good idea. We showered in the second bathroom which has a separate cubicle. Both bathrooms were modern and very clean.

There is a good supermarket within a short drive, and a boulangerie a few minutes walk away. There is a Brasserie in Riscle, but the only restaurant was closed in the evenings during our stay in September.

There are plenty of attractions within easy driving distance, including three ' Beautiful Villages of France' and some interesting Bastide Towns. On the Thursday we took the scenic D943 to visit the lovely market in Auch. Another day we drove down to Pau. From the historic centre there are beautiful views to the Pyrenees.

We would recommend the farmhouse to anyone wanting a quiet peaceful location, but be prepared to drive to see the attractions that this part of South West France has to offer.

Owner's Response: Hello Peter. Many thanks for your detailed review. You are absolutely right about the hanging space, and indeed since your visit we have added a double and triple wardrobe, both with full hanging rails. I'll look at the shower attachment for the en suite. We now also have UK satellite TV with all freesat channels. Thanks for your review and we hope you'll visit again. All the best. Greg

Fantastic retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful house and were so sad to leave. The property is situated in a rural location, in peaceful surroundings, ideal for a relaxing holiday and perfect to 'get away from it all'. It has lots of private outdoor space, nobody ever bothered us and it's by no means isolated. There are restaurants, a pizzeria and other shops in walking distance.

The property is clean, well equipped inside and we had everything we needed. Really grateful for the clean bathrooms! The weather was brilliant and the rooms downstairs were always cool, so no problem if it gets to hot outside.

Excellent communication with the owner, he was very helpful in every aspect and always easy to contact. Very quick to respond to our questions. Thanks for that, Greg, and for the lovely bottle of wine and the cake!

The house is ideally situated as a base for exploring this fascinating part of France. There are lots of vineyards, wine and Armagnac producers in the area, as well as lots of Foie Gras farms. Bordeaux is only about 1 hour away by car. We visited Lourdes, Biarritz and other medieval towns in the area. Lupiac, the birthplace of d'Artagnan is not far away and it's a good destination for those interested in exploring the beautiful Gers countryside. We also made an overnight trip to Spain and visited Pamplona and San Sebastian. We spent the night in Pamplona, would recommend the Zenith hotel, which is situated in a really convenient location and it's only a 15 min drive from the city center. On our way back to Riscle, we stopped in San Sebastian and spent some time at the beach.

We would definitely recommend this property to others and would love to go back anytime.

Buena

  • 5 of 5
