About the property

Beautiful character cottage in centre of medieval Dunster, Exmoor National Park.

Mid 19th century, recently restored cottage, next to church in the centre of the beautiful village of Dunster with its castle and medieval yarn market. It is situated ideally in the village on a quiet, residential street but within a couple of minutes walk of all the facilities in Dunster, including the Castle.

Floral Cottage has been decorated in keeping with its age but to give a light, airy feeling and finished with quality and antique furnishings.

The ground floor consists of living area with large fireplace, underfloor heating, dining area and fully fitted kitchen leading out to a walled patio area with garden table and chairs.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, the front bedroom has a kingsized bed and the smaller back bedroom is fitted with two single beds. There is a family bathroom with over bath power shower. Gas central heating via radiators is provided upstairs.

Parking is available on the road opposite the cottage.

Use of a shared communal garden is also available

A welcome pack of grocery essentials together with a homemade cake and fresh flowers will be provided in the cottage on arrival.

About Janet and Keith Middleton

Keith and Janet Middleton live in the nearby village of Porlock. Keith has lived in Porlock all his life and is often to be spotted in the area in his driving school car. Janet moved to the area 20 years ago and owns two businesses in Porlock - a café in the village and a gallery with café in Porlock Weir.

Janet and Keith Middleton purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Janet and Keith Middleton chose West Somerset

Although the cottage was in need of a substantial makeover when we purchased it, its potential was immediately apparent. We have made some quite major changes to it, but have always tried to maintain its very special character and charm.

A smashing little cottage with everything you need on a self catering holiday.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage along with it's location was ideal for that relaxing break. The added extras like bread and milk being brought in ready for your stay was a nice touch and much appreciated. The cottage was clean and had plenty of space for the four of us and our dogs. The location great for walkers as it's close to many foot paths and trails.

Absolutely Marvelous

  • 5 of 5

We all loved our little house in Dunster. Everything was perfect when we got there and we loved all the special welcome touches. We miscalculated our day to leave and Janet was so gracious. She packed all our things for us and called us when they were ready to pick up. We drove back from Bath, picked up our things, and the next tenants were ready to come in. When do you ever get such wonderful service when you are at fault. She was so sweet to us.

Our second stay at Floral Cottage. Great location to explore Dunster and surrounding area. The cottage has a very homely feel about. I'm sure we will be returning for a third time.

Immaculately clean and warm property.

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay in Dunster. Interesting little town with amazing castle and grounds which were well worth a visit. Cottage immaculately clean and warm. Had problem finding shared garden as location not clear but owner extremely helpful and very easy to deal with and is going to include details in cottage for future guests with dogs. Although most shops and Luttrell Arms seemed happy to allow dogs in, general impression was Dunster is not geared up for dogs as there were few if any 'green' areas in town centre where dogs weren't banned. Plenty of footpaths but not ideal after dark for pre-bed 'comfort break' for dogs!

Exquisite cottage in very pretty village

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a short visit to Floral cottage. The location of the cottage is just perfect in a quiet lane within a couple of minutes walk from several tea rooms, restaurants & gift shops in Dunster. The cottage itself is gorgeous, everything is so very tastefully put together and it also has all the modern amenities you will need. Underfloor heating makes for a very cosy lounge area, modern bathroom with bath & shower (so many places take out the baths these days!) After a 10 mile walk it's nice to relax in a bath! Bed was comfy with soft fluffy pillows & duvet. We didn't self catering but everything was there should we have wanted to cook. The owners had provided tea, coffee milk a loaf of bread & a very nice homemade lemon drizzle cake! Much appreciated. Great food at the nearby Luttrell arms.

We were able to walk to Dunster beach quite easily & along the coast to nearby Minehead. There is a steam train that runs along the coast, sadly we didn't have time but it would make for a fun day out. We visited Porlock & saw wild ponies on Exmoor. Lynton & Lynmouth within easy reach. Jewel in the Crown had to be Dunster Castle. Gardens & grounds are truly beautiful & castle is well worth a visit. Again this can be reached in under ten minutes by foot from Floral Cottage. Plus check out the Church in Dunster & its gardens with a wishing well . Truly beautiful. Only complaint- we couldn't stay longer!!

A peaceful little jewel in Dunster

  • 5 of 5

We loved our recent stay at Floral cottage in Dunster, its owners Janet and Keith could not have been more helpful and kind. The cottage is a little jewel, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, we took our shoes off to enjoy the underfloor heating. Plenty of hot water and lovely and cosy, it is small but perfect.
