About the property

Beautiful character cottage in centre of medieval Dunster, Exmoor National Park.

Mid 19th century, recently restored cottage, next to church in the centre of the beautiful village of Dunster with its castle and medieval yarn market. It is situated ideally in the village on a quiet, residential street but within a couple of minutes walk of all the facilities in Dunster, including the Castle.

The ground floor consists of living area with large fireplace, underfloor heating, dining area and fully fitted kitchen leading out to a walled patio area with garden table and chairs.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, the front bedroom has a kingsized bed and the smaller back bedroom is fitted with two single beds. There is a family bathroom with over bath power shower. Gas central heating via radiators is provided upstairs.

Parking is available on the road opposite the cottage.

Use of a shared communal garden is also available

A welcome pack of grocery essentials together with a homemade cake and fresh flowers will be provided in the cottage on arrival.

About Janet and Keith Middleton

Keith and Janet Middleton live in the nearby village of Porlock. Keith has lived in Porlock all his life and is often to be spotted in the area in his driving school car. Janet moved to the area 20 years ago and owns two businesses in Porlock - a café in the village and a gallery with café in Porlock Weir.

Janet and Keith Middleton purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Janet and Keith Middleton chose Dunster

Although the cottage was in need of a substantial makeover when we purchased it, its potential was immediately apparent. We have made some quite major changes to it, but have always tried to maintain its very special character and charm.

Location

Dunster is situated in the sweeping hills of the Exmoor National Park and provides the ideal base for your holiday. With over 200 listed buildings Dunster is preserved so that generations to come can enjoy the historic qualities of this unique village. Dunster has a wealth of historic buildings, from the National Trust’s 11th century Dunster Castle to the Old Yarn Market in the middle of the High Street, which was a focal point for the old Exmoor wool and cloth trade.

Within a few miles of this historic village of Dunster you have the stunning countryside of Exmoor National Park with its outstanding views and diverse range of wildlife. The famous Red Deer and Exmoor ponies roam the hills and vales while the buzzards and red kite fly above you.

The spectacular coastline of West Somerset is beset with cliffs, beaches and harbours to while away your visit. You can enjoy the local ales, ciders and cream teas after your walk or cycle ride through this magnificent area of England.

Property was very clean, well equipped and very close to all the facilities in Dunster which is a lovely place. A welcome pack of all the essentials was for arrival. The Owners were very helpful and always contactable although we did not need to.

Charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

Everything we needed plus more... treats for our doggy friend, cake and basic provisions. Clean, welcoming and warm. Soft comfy beds and characterful decor. We parked the car outside and left it there for the whole weekend. Perfect, thank you.

" a treasure in Dunster"

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful few days at Floral Cottage in October. The cottage is beautiful, very relaxing, the decor lovely , the bed is SO comfy and the underfloor heating was"toasty". We enjoyed walks over the Gallox bridge and through the forest, trips to Porlock and enjoyed meals at the Watermill cafe in Dunster. We also cooked some meals at the cottage and found that the kitchen had everything we needed. Can't wait to return. Carol and. John.

Dunster is a fantastic village with castle, yarn market, gallox bridge, and watermill.

Floral Cottage is beautiful. St George Church's bell ringers were practicing in the tower and we were allowed to watch as well as visit the clock tower and see its machinations.

Splendid Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this cottage. It's only a few minutes walk from the castle, shops and pubs. The cottage is lovely, clean and well equipped. The beds are very comfy! We were really struck by the thoughtfulness of the owners on our arrival who had left fresh flowers, cake, milk, bread and butter for us. Thank you so much! The cake was lovely! The owners kindly let us in one hour early as we'd arrived early demonstrating their kindness further. Highly recommend not only because the cottage is clean, modern and very comfortable, but because the owners really lend themselves to ensuring a pleasant stay for their guests. We will return!
