About the property

NEW 2016 2 Bedroom, Sleeps 4, secluded cottage with open country views

New for 2016, this secluded farm cottage is nestled in open countryside on a farm. Suitable for families, cyclists, walkers and nature enthusiasts it would also make a cosy romantic retreat.

The detached former farmhouse has been totally renovated to provide high quality holiday accommodation. The cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms on the first floor, one king room and one twin. A family bathroom with bath on the first floor and shower room on the ground floor. This traditional stone built country cottage has many original features including beams and a steep staircase which might not be suitable for guests with any restricted mobility.

The ground floor has a kitchen, utility dining room (seats 6) and a sitting room with log burning stove. Free Wi-fi is provided.

Access to the enclosed walled garden and views over open countryside. Patio area with table, chairs and a BBQ (gas provided) are situated in an area of the large garden. While the cottage is on a working farm, you will not be disturbed although you may enjoy a little of the hustle and bustle of lambing time in Spring from afar as we check our livestock.

The property benefits from own private lake, just a short walk from the cottage.

The cottage is dog friendly, accepting up to two well behaved dogs to the ground floor of the property.

About Tory Dodd

We are family run farming business who acquired Shortflatt Farm in 2015 and we completely re-furbished the cottage the to a high standard. Myself and my mother in law Marjorie run the cottage ourselves and we both live within 4 miles of the cottage, so near enough to be contacted if necessary but keys are left for guests on arrival along with welcome cake!

Tory Dodd purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Tory Dodd chose Newcastle upon Tyne

Set in the heart of Northumberland, the cottage is a perfect base to explore all areas. It boasts the advantage of being secluded and set on its own in beautiful countryside but also within 5 minutes of the village of Belsay, 15 minutes of Ponetland and 30 minutes to Newcastle. The Coast and the Scottish Borders can both be reached within the hour. The cottage is very spacious, with fantastic outdoor space and the lake can be explored but is a good distance away from the cottage for safety reasons.

Perfect retreat in a comfortable large house.

This quiet corrage is truly removed from the city bustle. It is immaculately presented and the owner provided welcome treats as well as comfortable bedding, wifi, outdoor seating and Gas BBQs as well as just about everything you could possibly want. What a welcoming cottage this is. Well located for Wallingron Hall, Bolam Lake, hadrians Wall, Hexham and Within easy reach of the coastal delights of Northumberland. This host has got it spot on. Will be back.

Absolutely 5 star

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Shortflatt Cottage and we will be returning without a doubt. We have stayed in a lot of dog friendly cottages around the UK and this is by far, the best. It has absolutely everything you need, is in a quiet, rural location with a great garden space. The cottage is so beautiful and is perfect for all the surrounding sites of Northumberland. I have recommended to all my friends.

Thanks again

Anna

Wonderful property and a fantastic place to stay in a very secluded spot.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderfully fitted out house with all the necessary items supplied to enable you to enjoy a fantastic holiday. The welcome pack was lovely too. We were very lucky in that we were able to enjoy sitting out on the patio enjoying watching the sheep and lambs in the morning and evening in the sunshine.

Thanks for a wonderful few days away and local walks where we could walk with our dogs who could run free too.

Definitely recommended this place to stay.

Peaceful relaxing home from home just perfect😊

  • 5 of 5

Everything we needed was provided could even do baking with the kids! Was a lovely welcome when we arrived with milk tea coffee homemade lemon cake and marmalade and even lindt bunnies for the kids as was Easter such a lovely touch-the cottage had plenty of space for the four of us plus a dog who loved the garden! The views were outstanding and we really didnt want to leave-kids loved playing in the summer house too. Only thing that let us down was 5 days of rain sleet and snow but plenty to keep us busy and it didnt stop us exploring the beautiful countryside.

Beautiful cottage, fabulous views, peace and quiet.

I stayed with my family (including teenage stepdaughter, 7 month old baby and dog) and Shortflatt Cottage was absolutely ideal. We loved it both inside and out: it was furnished to a high standard and had everything we needed, including high chair and travel cot. We loved the views to the front and sightings of wildlife (roe deer, stoat and lots of birds including tree sparrows and yellowhammers in the garden with lapwings displaying in the fields) and newborn lambs. The large enclosed garden was great for our excitable Labrador without any risk of escape! The nearby small woodland, pond and adjacent fields were also great for going for short walks from the house. Further afield we enjoyed visiting Wallington, Lindisfarne, Alnmouth and the Otterburn Ranges. The only small downside was that the sloping ceilings upstairs were tricky for both my husband and stepdaughter (both are over 6ft!) - it wasn't a problem at all for us, though, and is to be expected in a property of this type. Overall a fantastic holiday and we wish we'd booked for longer!
