NEW 2016 2 Bedroom, Sleeps 4, secluded cottage with open country views

New for 2016, this secluded farm cottage is nestled in open countryside on a farm. Suitable for families, cyclists, walkers and nature enthusiasts it would also make a cosy romantic retreat.

The detached former farmhouse has been totally renovated to provide high quality holiday accommodation. The cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms on the first floor, one king room and one twin. A family bathroom with bath on the first floor and shower room on the ground floor. This traditional stone built country cottage has many original features including beams and a steep staircase which might not be suitable for guests with any restricted mobility.

The ground floor has a kitchen, utility dining room (seats 6) and a sitting room with log burning stove. Free Wi-fi is provided.

Access to the enclosed walled garden and views over open countryside. Patio area with table, chairs and a BBQ (gas provided) are situated in an area of the large garden. While the cottage is on a working farm, you will not be disturbed although you may enjoy a little of the hustle and bustle of lambing time in Spring from afar as we check our livestock.

The property benefits from own private lake, just a short walk from the cottage.

The cottage is dog friendly, accepting up to two well behaved dogs to the ground floor of the property.

About Tory Dodd

We are family run farming business who acquired Shortflatt Farm in 2015 and we completely re-furbished the cottage the to a high standard. Myself and my mother in law Marjorie run the cottage ourselves and we both live within 4 miles of the cottage, so near enough to be contacted if necessary but keys are left for guests on arrival along with welcome cake!

Why Tory Dodd chose Newcastle upon Tyne

Set in the heart of Northumberland, the cottage is a perfect base to explore all areas. It boasts the advantage of being secluded and set on its own in beautiful countryside but also within 5 minutes of the village of Belsay, 15 minutes of Ponetland and 30 minutes to Newcastle. The Coast and the Scottish Borders can both be reached within the hour. The cottage is very spacious, with fantastic outdoor space and the lake can be explored but is a good distance away from the cottage for safety reasons.

Perfect retreat in a comfortable large house.

This quiet corrage is truly removed from the city bustle. It is immaculately presented and the owner provided welcome treats as well as comfortable bedding, wifi, outdoor seating and Gas BBQs as well as just about everything you could possibly want. What a welcoming cottage this is. Well located for Wallingron Hall, Bolam Lake, hadrians Wall, Hexham and Within easy reach of the coastal delights of Northumberland. This host has got it spot on. Will be back.

Excellent Place

What a great place to stay, had two weeks here over Christmas and really cannot fault it or the effort made by Tory had a superb break, The cottage is excellent very well equipped with everything you need we found nothing at all lacking. Some great touches too the house was very well decorated for Christmas along with some really nice touches such as home made sloe gin and small Christmas type gifts. The location is absolutely superb particularly when you have a dog and a real bonus was some great off lead walking for the dog straight outside the house, the views are excellent and the selection of wildlife around the house is fantastic including on a couple of occasions 4 deer in the garden feeding whilst we were in the house. In all all superb highly recommend the cottage and we will I am sure be back.

Excellent in Every Way

Shortflatt is a delightful cottage, very well equipped with modern appliances and very comfy. It was spotlessly clean with lovely white bedding and fluffy towels. It's in a lovely secluded and quiet location with views over the farmland but not too far away from the village of Belsay which has a lovely village shop. Well placed to visit the delights of Northumberland including locally Belsay Castle which is well worth a visit and just a short 5 minute drive away. Wallington (National Trust) is not too far away and Cragside (again NT) a bit further, but an absolute must. We also visited Alnmouth and Amble which were both very good places to while away an hour or so. Morpeth town is good for a browse around and parking is free, just remember to take a disc from the leaflet box with you! We were lucky with the weather which made our stay even more memorable.

Wonderful cottage in a very peaceful location

The cottage was delightful and had everything you could possibly need for a relaxing and most comfortable stay.Beautifly furnished and decorated throughout with lovely views over the surrounding countryside.The garden was well maintained and fenced making it very safe for our dogs and you could sit in it and appreciate the silence and watch the wildlife. I would certainly recommend it and the owner was most helpful and available if there was a problem or a question. Dogs could be walked directly from the cottage and some lovely further walks easily accessible. Made an excellent base for the Great North Run and exploring the wonderful coast and countryside.
