About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Occupancy 4

Sat right on the estuary of the Teign, this cottage is a bird lovers haven and a perfect place for children to have fun in the water. Surrounded by Devon hills and with distant views of Dartmoor and a pub a couple of minutes walk away this is the perfect place to relax in. Parking is 200 metres away from the cottage and there are some steps so may not be suitable for everyone. This cottage is set in a unique location ideal for anyone who wants to be surrounded by birdlife, likes fishing,

walking or wants to indulge in windsurfing or kayaking ( bring your own equipment) as it all goes on right in front of the chalet.

The cottage living area is all open plan. The front of the cottage has glass sliding doors and windows to make the most of the spectacular views. It also has a woodburner and table for 4 and a sofa with tv and excellent free wifi. In the kitchen area there is an Esse electric cooker similar to an Aga and a dishwasher. The bathroom has a freestanding bath with a hand shower unit for washing hair. Bedroom one has two windows that look out towards the estuary and a large double with Eygptian cotton bedding. Bedroom two has a double or twin bed depending on what is required and access to a raised outside area that is enclosed and private and looks out over the estuary once again. There is a back garden too with flowers and a bench. From here you can walk through the neighbours land to beautiful walks or along the foreshore for the same. There are two pubs, one 2 minutes walk away and one 20 minutes walk away. Shaldon beach is 10 minutes in the car one way with several cafes and a small zoo plus a smugglers tunnel that leads to a sandy cove backed by cliffs or Maidencombe is 10 minutes the other direction and has a pub in the village plus a cafe at the beach, lots of steps to get to the beach here

About PM/Owner

I'm one half of Salty Dog Brands Ltd, run with my husband Dave since 2003. We love to travel and enjoy meeting people from different cultures. We also love wildlife which is one of the reasons we bought our river home.

PM/Owner purchased this cottage in 2011

Why PM/Owner chose Combeinteignhead

I fell in love with our river cottage from the moment I saw it advertised online. When I went to view it my heart was pounding with excitement I loved it SO much. Since my husband and I have bought it we have upgraded it so that it has all the mod cons whilst maintaining its authentic look.

What makes this cottage unique

The water comes right up to the building, at high tide it is truly wonderful to sit with a glass of wine looking out over the water. Totally unique and truly relaxing but with a great pub that serves food all day 2 minutes walk away.

Shacky Chic!

What a wonderful place. We a had a lovely time here, beautiful setting, peaceful and relaxing plus a pub a couple of minutes away. The kids loved going out on the boat and playing on the shore. Shaldon is a lovely little village, we enjoyed a couple of meals at The Clipper cafe and Ness cove is worth a visit through the smugglers tunnel. All in all would highly recommend.

What an amazing get away!!

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic secluded spot on the river. You could spend the whole time watching the estuary birds and the tide rise and fall. We had great adventures as a family on the water as well as with the local beaches and attractions. Would highly recommend it.

Gorgeous location, comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week at Barbaree. The location right on the river cannot be equalled, we spent many an hour just relaxing on the sofa looking out across the water watching the huge variety of birds go by. Feeding the swans through the lounge window was certainly a highlight! You cannot ask for a more peaceful place to stay. The owner, Judy, was very helpful and on-hand via WhatsApp to answer any questions we had during the week, even advising which were her favourite veggy cafes to visit in Totnes (we totally agreed with her choice!). We'll definitely go back one day, hopefully soon, and next time with my canoe as well :-) Thank you Judy for a wonderful week.

a beautiful calm retreat

  • 5 of 5

we have had a wonderful time staying at the riverside 'shack'. I can't recommend it highly enough. Judy had paid so much attention to detail, ensuring that we got there easily with her detailed directions, she left snacks and drinks to welcome us, and the accommodation had everything we needed and is creatively and tastefully decorated. The majority of the time we spent watching the tide rise and fall, and the bird life of the river going about their business. Without doubt, this is an amazing location. We really felt that we left the world behind. I hope we get to return. Thank you very much to our hosts.

This location is perfect for bird watching, look at my video taken outside the cottage at the end of the photos and you will see. It is also a popular estuary for windsurfing and kayaking, bring your own equipment.

Gidleigh Park is less than an hours drive away on Dartmoor. Devon's only 2 Michelin star restaurant. Cary Arms Boutique hotel and restaurant on a sunny day is in a stunning bay location 15 minutes drive away.
