Known as "the most livable city in the world" (but tuderti prefer to say "ideal city"!)Todi is a mediaeval town with a unique beauty and elegance that stands on top of a hill dominating the lovely valley of the Tiber.

Situated a few kilometers from Perugia and Orvieto, the town is limited between three circles of walls (Etruscan, Roman and medieval) that enclose countless treasures. Among the things to do in Todi, one of the most beautiful views it is surely to Piazza del Popolo, the heart of the town button overlooked by some of the most important buildings of the Old Town which are opposed, with a striking effect, the religious complex.

Here you can admire the whole of the City Hall, born from the union of the People's Palace that hosts the lapidary Museum, the Municipal Art Gallery and the Roman Etruscan Museum, the thirteenth-century Palazzo del Capitano and the Palazzo dei Priori, perhaps the most beautiful of three and was finished in the fourteenth century.

The Cathedral, built in the twelfth century on the ruins of a temple dedicated to the god Apollo, is characterized by a long stairway access and a beautiful Romanesque facade; climbing the stairs from the top of the steps, you can take great pictures of the whole square.

Not far away, about 20 meters from the square is the Church of St. Fortunato, dedicated to the patron saint of the city and built in the thirteenth century, which houses the tomb in the crypt of the humanist poet Jacopone and has a beautiful fresco of Masolino da Panicale .

What to do in Todi? To truly experience the beauty of Todi suggest a visit to its underground treasures, the Cisterns. Built by the Romans, they are located just below the Piazza del Popolo and were used to collect rain water.

Another tip on what to do in Todi: a dip in the Middle Ages! Go through the three medieval towns of Ulpiano, New and Porta Fratta and the lower area called the Valley of Pontigli; inside the narrow alleys frequently open the doors to all sixth of ancient workshops, belonging, in medieval times, the twenty-three corporations of arts and crafts that dominated the whole town's economic life; They were often the same corporations, in addition to the monastic orders, who commissioned the construction of several small churches and oratories of which traces are still visible.

Situated next to Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Garibaldi offers stunning views of the countryside below, and another beautiful view we suggest you get on its highest point, the bell tower of San Fortunato, from which you can even catch a glimpse of Perugia.

If after following our tips on what to see in Todi there came a little peckish we have to give you some advice on what to eat in Todi.

Tuderti on tables next to the traditional bread will certainly find the pan caciato (or nociato), a small round loaf with walnuts, cheese and raisins. But among our tips on what to eat in Todi you can not miss the palomba the greedy, the dish par excellence of Todi. In the winter months there is no home or restaurant where they do their appearance pigeons, which must cook slowly, skewered on a spit, "with good coal, but no flame."
