Tranquility in Cornish rural luxury Shepherd's hut ideal for Staycating

Stargazey is a luxury Shepherds Hut that stands alone nestled amidst natural surroundings and approached through a woodland path from the secure parking area. The setting of this hidden gem gives you an amazing 180 degree uninterrupted southern sky vista from your own doorstep and provides wonderful views across the wooded valley and distant fields.

This idyllic Shepherds Hut has an ingenious layout that includes a luxury double bed complete with cotton bed linen linen, the cleverly designed bed easily swings away out of sight to reveal an oak table and seating for 4. The Kitchen is very well equipped with a full range of utensils, sink, induction hob, fridge, microwave, and toaster and is complete with salt & pepper, tea towels, washing up liquid and cloths. The luxury ensuite shower can deliver piping hot water, well any temperature you like, but if you like hot showers we promise you will not be disappointed! Luxury cotton, hand and bath towels are also provided.

Stargazey is also equipped with a cute wood-burning stove that on cold days keeps the cabin warm and cosy; kindling and logs are provided for the length of your stay. Outside you have your own secluded garden area complete with picnic bench, rocking recliners, stargazey bar-b-q and a fire-pit.

Such is the peace and tranquillity of Stargazeys natural haven that you may be lucky enough to see the resident Barn Owls that are often seen just a stone's throw from the hut, both tawny and little owls are also nearby. Those interested in stargazing will be delighted to know that by appointment you can visit the neighbouring Observatory (conditions permitting) Weekly sky watch interests posted on a nearby noticeboard by our resident astronomers Dr Grant and Mrs Kim Mackintosh.

This luxury Shepherd's Hut is a paradise for nature lovers, artists, star watchers and a great central base for touring Cornwall being 10 miles from North Coast surf beaches and 6 miles from South Coast sailing centres.

Our guests are treated to a Cornish Cream Tea Welcome Basket, (with a bottle of Bubbly on ice for honeymooners) there are also complimentary slippers included as we ask that shoes and boots are not worn inside the cabin please but we provide a rustic boot scraper and a weatherproof ammunition box beside the steps for any muddy boots and shoes.

About Paul Francis Bright

The picture shows one of our sons with his wife enjoying the facilities at Sams in the Bay at Carlyon Bay's Crinnis Beach, just 15 minutes away from Stargazey. Jan and I are both retired, I was CEO of Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust, Jan is an artist and also a retired hospice nurse. A couple of small examples of her work are in the Hut.

We both moved to Cornwall as young adults and are both conservationists and vegetarians and all of our three adult children returned to make their own homes nearby in Beautiful Cornwall.

Paul Francis Bright purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Paul Francis Bright chose Saint Stephen-in-Brannel

Our property is uniquely peaceful and we have transformed it from an agricultural mono culture to a diverse and species rich environment in the 28 years that we have owned the property.

We have planted two thousand native trees and created shelter and a variety of habitats. We also have little light pollution and 180 degree southern sky aspect, ideal for astronomy. We have breeding barn owls just above the woodland path to your hut and visiting wildlife in abundance.

What makes this cabin unique

Natural surroundings, privacy and luxury shepherds hut with astronomic observatory in the next field.

Peace and quiet in a natural haven with secure parking which is shared with the Observatory visitors.

Visits to the observatory are by arrangement with Dr Grant Mackintosh via another woodland path to the west of the parking area. Grant posts information on topical stargazing activities on the noticeboard on there pump house in Stargazey's field. Dr Grant Mackintosh has been credited with discovering 2 new SUPANOVAS.

Stargazey is also in great base to return to when touring Cornwall's many beautiful locations.

Outstanding!!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed in the Shepherd's hut over the recent bank holiday weekend and had the most amazing time! After a long journey stuck in traffic we finally arrived, parked up and were led to our accommodation by Kim the resident astronomer. We followed her through the woodland with fairy lights decorating the trees above, leading the way to a small clearing. It was a lovely clear night and the stars were so bright in the sky. Kim was very knowledgeable and provided lots of useful tips on star gazing and even pointed out some of the planets. She also advised us of the animals and birds we may see and hear during our stay.

Kim then showed us around inside and we loved the hut immediately. It was clear that no expense had been spared and the interior was as stunning as the exterior. For a place that looks small from the outside (especially for 2 tall people!) there's plenty of space inside. The bed (which was laid out for us on arrival) was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in and plenty big enough for us both! It also folded neatly away, exposing a table and chairs underneath..genius!

As we arrived around 9.30pm and had not been able to stop to pick up some essentials on route, we were very surprised to find in the fridge two cream teas and a small milk. This was a fantastic and a very welcome treat after a long 7 hour drive!

Paul was unfortunately not able to greet us due to a family bereavement but regularly checked in to ensure we were ok and had everything we needed. He was very friendly and we hugely appreciated it, especially given the circumstances.

Location wise, it's perfect, we covered a lot of ground over the weekend but if you want to stay close by then the Eden project is just 7 miles away and Newquay is about 20 minutes by car. There's also a lovely fish and chip shop near St Austell.

The hut has everything you could need, you can eat and drink inside or outside with comfortable loungers, a BBQ area and fire pit. There's also a picnic bench out the front which is perfect for coffee and breakfast in the morning. The views are incredible and it's so peaceful. The perfect place to relax and read a book amidst the beautiful countryside.

What else can I tell you...the shower is amazing, there are lovely blankets to curl up in if you're sitting outside, there's log burner inside if you get cold, there's a radio and there's no TV...perfect!

This place is an absolute gem and we can't wait to return!

Peaceful, well equipped, just what we were looking for.

  • 5 of 5

Easy to find with excellent parking and access. We found the hut to be very clean and well fitted out with everything we needed. Paul met us at the gate and couldn't have been friendlier or more informative. The peace and quiet that we found there was just what we needed. Although we were only there a few days, we spent many hours at the hut itself, taking advantage of the bbq and fire pit, with log store and charcoal included.

We are very much looking forward to a return visit, but next time we'll stay longer to be able to enjoy it even more fully.

Thanks very much to our hosts.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your appreciative review, we always enjoy and like to hear from satisfied visitors. It is such a joy to see the tension ebb and the natural environment working its magic. Pleased to hear that you were able to see one of the resident Barn Owls too. As you say there is still so much more to explore and take both at Stargazey and within easy reach. In the winter the sky is darker earlier and if clear the stargazing from the Tolcarn Observatory is fantastic. Indeed our resident astronomer has just been credited with spotting and recording two new Supanovas. We look forward to greeting you again when hopefully you will be able to spend more time with us. Remember too that we can offer farmhouse accommodation for your friends or relatives if you wish to share your visit with them.

A real gem...

  • 5 of 5

From start to finish the break away from the 'Madding Crowds' & teenager type chaos was absolutely perfect... If like me you are looking for time out from the noise of life or simply a base from which to adventure you will be so very glad you chose this remarkable place! Rabbits on your doorstep at dawn, green woodpeckers amusing you with their regular fly-by salute and recognizable call, the elusive Barn owl that leaves you reminders that he is there but being a little bit cagey about timing, so only the alert can harvest a truly unforgettable experience. Beautifully presented accommodation, a bed that makes you feel like loafing about all day looking out over the dreamy view... pretty much perfect any which way you say it, an understated gem in a location that makes exploring the Roseland Coast and Peninsular a real pleasure! PS for those with the need for 'signal' got 3G and 4G so decided to turn my phone off (ha ha)... hope everyone enjoys treasured moments relaxing and enjoying life on the quiet side, a fabulous set up and perfect retreat to spend time on your own terms...

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback we are delighted that you had a wonderful stay in our Stargazey Hut and appreciated the natural luxurious tranquility that it offers, not forgetting the flypast of some of our green woodpeckers; we currently have at least three of them and a pair of great spotted woodpeckers that visit us every day too. Quite surprised that at least one of our breeding Barn Owls, only 30 metres from the front door were missed. Hopefully on your next visit you will be honoured with a fly past at least. We are pleased that you appreciated the luxury bed and the fabulous view from it and so pleased that you agree with us that we all need a short break from the madding crowd and constant media overload. This is why we don't offer a TV or Wifi but do have a good 3 and 4G signal for those that really cannot quite escape technology. When you return we hope you will once again bring the weather with you and be able to take advantage of the conditions to visit our friends at Tolcarn Observatory in the adjoining field for a conducted visual tour of the night sky. We are also equidistant from both the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan and only 5 miles from the beautiful St Austell Bay with its quaint ports of Polkerris, Charlestown, Mevagissey and Gorran Haven. If you fancy surfing next time, we are only 20 minutes from some of the best surf beaches in the UK on Cornwall's North Coast. And if you can tear yourself away from the BBQ or just sitting round the fire-pit, we now have the choice of the best dining options within easy reach. Hurry back before our secret spot gets too well known.
