Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed here from Saturday to Saturday and had a fabulous time away as a family. We found it easily and it was only a short drive from Fishbourne. We found it very relaxing and having the pool on site was brilliant for our 6 year old. We loved the open space and walks. We found The Retreat to well equipped with everything that we should need. There is a small games room on site which our son really enjoyed. The Retreat is a fabulous get away for any couple or family looking for a quiet relaxing break. We will definitely be looking at going back again soon as we had such an amazing time.

A very comfortable stay in a lovely place

  • 5 of 5

We had a week at St Helens Holiday Park and stayed in ‘The Retreat’. We have stayed at this site before and try to come once or twice a year because we love the area and want the freedom of self catering. We have stayed in a number of different caravans but this one is definitely the best. We had a warm welcome on arrival and it was clean, very well equipped and obviously well maintained. The owners include many extras like a BBQ and outside furniture like sun loungers etc. In the caravan there was tea, milk and biscuits all supplied for our arrival and lots of other nice touches. For example they supplied kitchen towel, basic cleaning materials, tea towels, hand towels, hairdryer and bath room mat - things that we normally have to remember to take on a caravan holiday. The owners were great to deal with and everything seemed very straightforward with booking and acccess to the caravan on arrival. The site is quiet but has its own outdoor swimming pool and it is in a great position. We loved walking around the harbour and into Bembridge, eating at The Best Dressed Crab and Lochslane Bistro, the Duver Beach in St Helens, walking through the woods to Priory Bay (take everything you need as no facilities there but it is stunning), Seaview, The Mermaid gin distillery and Quarr Abbey. We will be back for sure.

The Retreat was an excellent base for a first time expore of the Island

  • 4 of 5

The Retreat is well appointed and comfortable. Effective heating, lots of hot water and in a peaceful spot at the top of the site.Sue and Pete were more than helpful with all our queries. We were a little disappointed with St Helens Holiday Park. The common part grassed areas need mowing and lack of staff meant the super heated pool was closed for a number of days. We undersatnd the Park is in new hands and hopefully will improve its look for the summer season.

Lovely comfortably clean and well equipped home .

  • 4 of 5

Beautifull park in a lovely quiet area of St Helen. Easy access to all the sight seeing on the island. Has all the home comforts. I would imagine in summer it would be lovely to sit outside on the veranda and enjoy the peace & quiet . The only downside, you can’t park your car next to the home. Was rather inconvenient handling all our luggage, although there are luggage trolley’s. A wonderful stay

Perfectly equipped, spotlessly clean, and family friendly caravan. Great hosts.

Had a wonderful holiday with my daughter and baby grandson here. The caravan park was very peaceful and the caravan itself had everything we needed and more to cook, relax and explore for the week. The oven was better than my one at home, made an amazing roast dinner in it. It snowed just after we arrived, but the heating in the caravan was excellent so we chilled out and spent the day watching Carry On films (nice size collection of books and DVDs provided). Can’t fault the caravan in any way, the owners obviously love it and enjoy having people stay there. Sue and her husband were ideal hosts, we felt very welcomed and the coffee, tea, sugar, milk and biscuits left for us was very gratefully received. My only regret is booking just one week instead of two, we didn’t want to leave.

The caravan was great with the baby, plenty of space to roll himself around the floor, and the highchair that attached to the dining chair was fantastic.

There’s a huge Tesco three miles up the road which was handy, and the holiday park was only a fifteen minute drive from the Fishbourne ferry port. Loads of places to visit in the local area, but the island is twenty five miles across so everything is kind of local. Our favourite was the Amazon World Zoo Park, they have a walkthrough lemur enclose where they come and sit on your shoulder. Most of the animal parks also have free return visits within seven days, so my advice if you’re taking kids is to go and the start of the week and then go back to the places you liked best later on in the week. I’ve never known a place to have so many animal parks, Monkey Haven was another good one.

Thank you both so much for letting us stay in your beautiful caravan, we had a great time and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to retreat from the mainland.
