The Perfect Village Apartment (Barjac, Gard)

  • 5 of 5

Anna Brown must have a need for comfort because she has anticipated her guests' every need and desire. Taste and quality describe the restoration and furnishings of these airy, light-filled three rooms. Immediate and abundant hot water. Excellent queen sized bed, cozy bedding and pillows, thick and ample towels, the best lighted make-up and shaving mirrors we've come across in a rental, quality cookware and dinnerware, easy-to-use kitchen appliances, including a microwave that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to operate. A surprising stock of kitchen staples fill out one's needs to put a simple meal on the table. We were delighted to find a fresh baguette on the kitchen counter and a lovely bottle of Ardeche white wine, a favorite of ours, cooling in the fridge.

Anna was available to provide help or guidance at all times. She could not have been more gracious or generous, nor could the apartment have been more delightful. It is located on a major "place", close to fresh produce, bakery, butcher/charcuterie, cheese shop, wine shop, ice cream parlor and WiFi tea shop, and ATM. The apartment, by the way, has excellent WiFi connectivity. It has a street view as well as a sweeping vista that, on a very clear day, one can see into the Lozere department.

We have visited Barjac, sometimes several times a year, for some 15 years. This stunning apartment, new to us, is in a perfect location for enjoying this charming and vibrant village. We are , even now, planning to return. A full 5 stars+ to Anna Brown and this property.

Appartement plein de charme et idéalement situé.

  • 5 of 5

Superbe.

Un lieu à conseiller vivement !

In the heart of Barjac, this apartment, located in an old building, charming by its harmonious and neat decoration. Clean and slippery, it offers the amenities that make for a pleasant stay.

Its location is ideal: shops are very close, and the labyrinth of alleys starts right at the foot of the building.

Another major advantage is the panoramic view overlooking the mountains of Cevennes and Ardeche. Gorgeous.

A place to highly recommend!

Genialissimement romantique et paisible

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Our property is located in the picturesque medieval village of Barjac. Situated in the very north of the Gard department between the Cèze and Ardèche rivers. Surrounded by fields of smiling sunflowers, hazy lavender fields and olive groves.

All amenities are within a few minutes walk and there is a market every Friday morning selling local produce.

The Brocante, an international Antique Fair, is held here twice a year at Easter and mid-August.

This area is famous for the Ardéche Gorge where you can swim, canoe, kayak, rock climb and cycle. The newly opened centre for the Grotte de Chauvet caves containing some of the earliest known paintings is approximately 15km away. The spectacular Aven d'Orgnac caves are 10 minutes drive away as well as the new Grotte de la Salamandre caves near Méjannes Le Clap.

Indy Park, a tree climbing adventure park is just five minutes drive.

Barjac is a great base to go on day trips to visit the Arenas of Nimes and Arles and the Popes' Palace in Avignon.

In the summer there is plenty of river swimming either in the Cèze or the Ardèche. There is a lovely big public outdoor swimming pool in Méjannes Le Clap which is 18 km away.

Visit the silk worm museum at the Chateau des Roure, 8 km away and learn about the production of lavender oil at St. Remèze.
