About this property

pet-friendly luxury house with stunning sea views, garden near beach and village

Sea Haze is located in an ideal position for a family holiday as its only 400 metres from the beach and the South West coast path as well as being readily accessible for Looe and Polperro, the wonderful sands of Whitsand Bay and the many attractions of Plymouth. Downderry offers a coffee shop, pub and excellent restaurant. The local beach is dog-friendly and nearby Seaton offers an amazing expanse of beach for dog-walkers and surfers as well as cafes and pubs.

Sea Haze is located at the end of a cul-de sac so it is safe and quiet for children and dogs and the neighbours are very friendly and helpful. The front door is reached through the front garden down a short flight of steps from the road. The property enjoys a double garage with electric doors as well as on street parking. The attractive front garden is planted with heathers, camellias and a variety of small shrubs. It also offers a large storage cupboard for bikes etc as well as dustbin storage. There is a gate that opens on to steep stairs down the side of the house to the back garden. There is also a back door into the utility room which is handy for muddy boots and dogs!
The house is built into the side of the hill so the bedrooms are downstairs from the entrance hall. This makes it possible for every room to face the sea and for the whole house to enjoy the sunshine. WiFi is available throughout the house.
Off the spacious entrance hall is a large, well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar for informal eating and a balcony overlooking the sea with chairs and tables . The kitchen is equipped with a large toaster, electric kettle, coffee machine, microwave and food-processor. There is large cupboard off the kitchen which provides a substantial shelved larder and houses the large fridge and separate freezer. The utility room off the kitchen houses the washing machine and tumble dryer, airing cupboard and boiler as well as providing a drying rack and hooks for outdoor clothes. The kitchen connects through a door to the sunny dining room with its dining table for 8 that can be extended to 12 as well as armchair loungers in a covered solarium from which to gaze at the sea view. Off the entrance hall, there is also a cloakroom with toilet and wash-basin..

Newly-carpeted stairs lead to a large lounge with seating for eight people with comfortable leather sofas, flat screen TV, DVD player blue-tooth CD player and coal effect gas fire. it has a Juliet balcony with French doors for enjoying the uninterrupted sea views.

Another short flight of stairs leads to three of the bedrooms. Bedroom 2 has a super-king bed which can also be configured as 2 single beds as well as a newly-refurbished, en-suite shower room. Bedroom 3 is fairly small and can be configured with 2 single beds or one super-king as bedroom 2. Bedroom 4 has a kingsize bed and a large built in wardrobe. It has its own, newly-installed, en-suite toilet and wash-basin. All the bedrooms enjoy sea views and complete privacy. Bedroom 4 is opposite the family bathroom which also has a newly-installed bath, shower, wash-basin and toilet.

On the same corridor there is a 'rumpus room' specially for children with beanbags, games, books and TV. Down another flight of stairs is the door into the garden as well as bedroom 4 with more stunning sea views. It has a kingsize bed, a large built in wardrobe and an ensuite shower room with toilet. All the bedrooms have new carpets for 2018.

The garden door leads down to a paved barbecue terrace furnished with wooden chairs and a table. The large and secluded terraced garden is planted in the Cornish style with palm trees and rhododendrons as well as a variety of local herbaceous plants. Benches on the shady terrace provide an uninterrupted view of both Rame Head to the East and Looe Island to the West with not a building in site! Sun lounges are also available in the storage room under the garden stairs to the right of the terrace. The garden drops down through a series of grassed terraces which offer further opportunities to enjoy the view over a glass of prosecco.

Nice coastal stay…
Super views, but be prepared for steep climbs up and down to the house. The beach is great for dog walks, close by the Whitsand Bay and Seaton.

Amazing view's
We decided to have a short break before our daughter started her Chemotherapy and what a lovely break it was. The house was lovely so was the sea view from every room, simply amazing. The dogs also enjoyed the secured gardens. Patricia and David are fantastic hosts. Thank you so much. Neil and Linda Xx

Fantastic Views - Comfy Home
Great views. Cannot speak more highly about this. Rained whilst we were there and we were completely comfortable within the place. Kids had a lot of fun in the nook and main area and the kitchen, dining room with conservatory were also well used. It's high up on a hill - car needed. Looe only 15m away where there are plenty of great places to eat. Hosts checked in via phone on the second day to make sure all was OK. Everything was. Thoroughly recommend.

Great views, plenty of space.
The views were fab (but be warned the steps are very narrow and steep with limited hand rails). The rooms were a good size (apart for the tiny twin that would be much better as a single or bunk plus it and the smallest double had no hanging space in the room). The kitchen & dining areas were great and even had a dish dig enough for the turkey to be served on. We did have a few cleaning & wifi/mobile phone signal issues but nothing that spoilt our stay. There is a good village pub & shop but neither are really within walking distance due to Seahaze being at the top of the hill. All in all we had a lovely time.

About the host

Patricia is a retired University professor and David is a retired dental surgeon. We have three grown up children and three grandchildren. We have lived in our very old house in a small village for more than thirty years. Our village is near the Cotswold hills in Gloucestershire, UK where we love to walk and ride and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Why they chose this property

When we were looking for a house in Cornwall, we fell in love with Sea Haze for its fantastic views, its comfort and spaciousness, its delightfully private garden and the ready access to both beach and good walking. When you enter the house, the Cornish magic starts to enfold you as you listen to the sound of the wavs crashing on the beach below and the song of the birds in the nearby trees. Sea Haze offers a unique haven of tranquility that ensures you sleep like a log and wake to an amazing sunrise over Rame Head.
We didn't know when we bought our magical house that we would also find a magical village in this forgotten part of Cornwall. Not only is Downderry a charming and friendly village with a shop where they cant do enough to help you, but also the surrounding area remains amazingly unspoilt with extraordinary views in every direction. Our neighbours too are fantastic and very friendly to our guests, happy to help with advice about the best places to go.

What makes this property unique

Sea Haze is a very unusual house since it is built into the side of a cliff. The steep road that leads up to it ensures fantastic views and there is no passing traffic, so it is safe for children and dogs and very quiet. We love having breakfast on the balcony outside the kitchen looking out onto the expanse of Looe Bay and perhaps even seeing as far as the Eddystone Lighthouse.

The house is located in a commanding position with uninterrupted sea views. As soon as we first visited the house, we fell in love with the views and knew we had to buy it. We love sitting in the garden where you are literally 'on top of the world'! And yet it is only a short stroll to the beach and local amenities even if the walk back is a bit more of a challenge!

The sun stays on the back of the house most of the day so it is possible to relax in different parts of the garden while you contemplate the barbecue to come later on. One of our favourite places is the wisteria-covered terrace that overlooks the garden that for us evokes the romance of Italy. Above all, we love the fact that both the house and garden are very private and make it possible to enjoy the special atmosphere of Cornwall is peace and seclusion.
