About the property

Villa Bernardi e Giorgi

In the hamlet "Bernardi e Giorgi", elevated in the foothills of the Tuscan Apuan Alps, however, only a few minutes to the beaches and towns of Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi and Lucca, lies a traditional Tuscan house made of local stone and chestnut beams, lovingly restored and furnished to the unique romantic Tuscan style of its former rural elegance.

The 3 storey "Villa Bernardi e Giorgi" , facing the Versilia coast line with stunning sea views offers just only 2 guest accommodation units with separate entrances, terraces and garden sections. It could be rented as well as an entire holiday villa for 8 sleeps

There are 2 options for bigger and smaller parties: 2 families or 2 couples travelling together:

2 separate self catering holiday apartments or the entire vacation villa.

With these options "Villa Bernardi e Giorgi" provides privacy for 2 couples or 2 families travelling together: each apartment is fully equipped with its own kitchens, its own bathrooms and its own living areas, its own garden spaces and terraces.

And if your family or party needs the entire Villa with upto 8 sleeps, there is a connecting door to combine the 2 single apartments to 1 entire house unit.

The apartments:

Apartment BERNARDI on groundfloor and on 1st floor with private garden and terrace, 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4

Apartment GIORGI on 2nd and on 3rd floor with private garden and roofed terrace, 2 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4: either 3 adults or 2 adults with 2 kids,

How to get to Villa Bernardi e Giorgi:

A winding narrow country road takes you uphill, starting from Pietrasanta, traversing terraced farms with olive groves and passing unique hill top hamlets. Every day you pass up or down this road, one gets every single time new impressions of the beautiful landscape and the sea views.

At “Localitá Bernardi e Giorgi”, a cosy hamlet, nestled high up in the foothills of the Apuan Alps, you will leave your car at a secure parking and we will welcome and pick you up there.

Enjoy the short pleasant walk (150m) on a paved narrow road to the villa, whilst your luggage is transported on a three wheel Ape Tuk-Tuk to the villa. Your walk ends in front of an old Tuscan stone house inmidst the little hamlet “Bernardi e Giorgi”.

“Villa Bernardi e Giorgi” awaited its first guests in July 2016 after having been entirely renovated and lovingly restored, showing off old Tuscan materials and craftsmanship. So everything is new and immaticulate clean.

From its elevated position the Villa has a spectacular view of the Versilia Coast line between Lido di Camaiore and Forte dei Marmi. The sea can be seen from all the windows in the building including the loo, from all terraces and from the pool.. The isles of Capraia, Elba and even Corsica are visible on a clear day, as well as all the shipping traffic rolling in and out of Viareggio and Livorno harbours.

Apartment BERNARDI has got an private entrace through a garden gate , the garden and the terrace on the lower garden section, facing the sea to the South.

The terrace is close to the traditional Tuscan kitchen with old brass bowls and handmadeterracotta tiles which has been lovingly restored and furnished in the typical Tuscan style using old materials and craftsmanship.

The outside terrace, shaded by an awning, will be your favourite outdoor eating place, where you will stay most of the time, even on rainy days, which are rare from mid June to mid September. There is as well an eating place indoor in the open floor plan kitchen.

The living aria inside and the open floor plan kitchen is a 35 sqm unit, finished with an old terracotta tile floor, walls made of stone from the surrounding mountains and ceilings showing off their old chestnut beams. The living is furnished with a couch, a convertible sofabed, TV, carpets and an open fireplace.

An entrance leads to another section of the living area, a separate room with a wardrobe, mural paintings and space for indoor games. Or leave just your luggage there

A set of narrow stairs takes you to the main floor, where two bedrooms share a central bathroom. Both rooms are newly furnished in a shabby chic style, matching the old Tuscan ceilings and floors perfectly.

The beds are new queen size double beds with comfortable orthopaedic matresses. Everything has been entirely made up in keeping with the old materials and the traditional Tuscan craftsmanship.

The bathroom is equipped with glass cabin walk in shower, vanity and toilet.

The garden (500sqm) with its pool (8,00 x 4.00 m x 1.2 m in depth (unheated) as well as the terrace in front of the pool is to be shared with guests of Apartment GIORGI.

The pool terrace is equipped with umbrellas, sun beds and deckchairs: A pool house provides an outdoor fridge for cool berverages at the pool. There is also plenty of natural shade under huge trees.

Garden tables and rattan chairs and sofas one the lower terrace are placed close to the kitchen, providing you with a perfect Alfesco style outdoor dining area. Wi Fi is provided in all rooms and on the terrace.

The Apartment GIORGI has got an own entrance at the other side of the villa, A huge Bougainvillea gives shade onto the upper garden section, close to the entrance of apartment GIORGI. About Thomas Ruemmele

Whe we first came to this Tuscan region "Versilia Coast" about 17 years ago we fell in love with the rolling hills infront of the majestic mountains of the Apuan Alps so close to the sea. There is everything in abundance: nature, culture, stunning views, tipical Tuscan kitchen in rural and elegant restaurants and a neverending option of things to do, to see, to enjoy.

You can play golf in one of the most beautiful golf clubs in Italy, you can shop in elegant boutiques at Forte dei Marmi, you can mix with the rich and important models, film stars and soccer player of Milan, Firenze and Rome or you could do all kind of sports at the beaches and ontop of the mountains.

Culture, art, history and architecture are everwhere: the art ateliers in Pietrasanta, the medieval cities Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Sarzana and countless others. Or take a boat to The Cinque Terre, a train to Florence or Rome or relax in the garden and on the beaches doing "dolce-far-niente" as the italians do.

Wonderful and so special!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Georgi. The apartment was beautiful, charming but modern and impeccably decorated and clean. The kitchen was perfect for our family. The bathrooms were great, as was the living room. We used the washer several times which was so helpful. Thomas was incredibly responsive and helpful - his restaurant recommendations were exceptionally good - from the local pizza place to a villa in the hills with a high end restaurant, we loved every one of his choices, they were all so special and felt like local spots, not touristy at all. We also really loved the location being a short drive to Pietrasanta, the beaches, Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi, and Lucca. The actual location of the apartment was spectacular - amazing views from every window and an awesome and fun drive up and down the hills each day. We really felt so lucky to have found this place and hope we can return!

Stunning Property in a Secluded Location

  • 4 of 5

There really is so much to like about this beautiful property, but we did have some issues that stopped this being a 5 star review. One of our top criteria was a place with wifi. The listing said it had wifi (restricted data) in all rooms and on the lower terrace. Out of a 7 day stay, we actually had 1 day and 2 hours of wifi with a very weak signal. This was a big issue for our 17 year daughter. The wifi is not up to the job of streaming anything and basic browsing was a challenge. If we had known this before, we would have booked elsewhere.

Between the 2 bedrooms we had a bathroom. The overflow on the toilet ran for 5 days and nights after we told the manager, and it was only due to a visit from the local water authority that it was fixed. The continual noise at night was not enjoyable! Similarly, the local bells chimed every hour and half hour throughout the night.

Regarding the ‘maximum privacy’, the manager had family staying during our visit. They used the upper terrace near the pool for morning and evening meals. They were lovely and we enjoyed many a conversation with them, but it was not the maximum privacy we expected or wanted. The walls between the manager’s property and ours were divided by a curtained door. Every conversation was clearly audible and it was as though they were in the room with us. Given the price of the villa, we strongly feel that the wifi, overflow and privacy issues were unreasonable.

Now on to the good stuff! The villa itself was faultless. It was immaculately clean, very tastefully decorated and had all the facilities and more that we could need. There was plenty of room for the three of us and the villa was cool enough regardless of the wonderful 32º temperatures. The pool was unheated but this was a good thing! It was great to cool down in. The garden had lemon and plum trees and was beautiful. On the night we arrived, we were very fortunate to see the annual village procession and festival, which ended in a spectacular firework display over the mountains. As for the mountains, the views were incredible - despite the large pylon in the garden next door which is missing from the photos. The 'adventure' of a drive to the villa is not for the faint-hearted. It is 15+ minutes of blind corners and hairpin bends, with sheer drops on one side and walls on the other. This is a great place to stay if you don’t mind the drive. It really is lovely and there is plenty around within a reasonable driving distance.

Owner's Response: Dear anonymous guests, Thank you for your review, which we are not willing to accept without a counter statement, to make things crystal clear. Here it is: At the first sight it seems that you did not enjoy your stay with us at all - listing up all those negative issues above. But you gave us, inspite of all the "lows", 4 stars out of 5 stars. It´s hardly to understand! Obviously the "highs" must have predominated your stay totally. No one of our previous guests critized neither the noise of the church bells and of our manager Michel Reolon, living next to you. And no one complained of the narrow windy road. Our advert tells you everything: the windy road, the 2nd apartment in the house, the position in a little hamlet. If you don´t like church bells and windy roads you should not come to Tuscany. And stunning sea views you will get only from an elevated position. The private terraces of the 2 apartments are on different levels and on different sides of the villa, one is facing the sea, the other one is facing the mountains. There is withot any doubt a maximum of privacy, concerning the fact, that you have rented an apartment and not an entire house. And you knew it before. We are offering as well vacation houses, but prices for entire houses are much higher. We pointed out before, that our capacity of internet access / Wilan is restricted, since we do not have a telephone landline and we recommended the purchase of a SIM card. Our Vodafone router provided you 20 Gigas. Our previous guests used 2 Gigas on average a week. Your 17 years old daughter who stayed most of the time of her Tuscan holidays in bed, used them all up with downloading and streaming services within a day! We have paid a fortune for it. What a poor life, what a poor world, if Tuscany with its culture, history, landscapes, beaches and mountains counts obviously nothing. Staying in bed in Tuscany and complaining... We, however, appreciate guests who are sharing the charme of the house and Tuscany´s beauty.

Schönes Haus mit toller Umgebung und Meerblick

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

We do enjoy our stay

  • 5 of 5

Villa Bernardi e Giorgi is situated in the mountains 430 m above sea level, overlooking the Versilia Coast from Livorno to La Spezia.

On clear weather conditions you ccan see the islands of Capraia, Elba Corsica, even the coastline of Southern France!

A small windy road takes you uphill from Pietrasanta heading to La Culla whilst passing olive groves, little medieval hamlets like Monteggiori and Santa Lucia. The views along this countryside road are goorgious. The colours of the sea are different every day. The journey is the reward !

The little paved street inside the hamlet "Bernardi and Giorgi" ontop of the hills is, however, too narrow for midsize cars in order to get directly to the house with a car. to get We recommend to leave the car at a public parking lot and to walk by foot to the villa, while we are taking care of your luggage with our 3-wheel Tuk-Tuk Ape.
