About Margarton Appartment hosted by Máiréad de Staic

I grew up in 19, High Street, Killarney - next door. My parents had a bar, restaurant @ guest house. They bought this house in 1970 and when they sold number 19 we moved in to number 18. I managed my parents guest house here for many years.

Why Margarton Appartment hosted by Máiréad de Staic chose Killarney

Location, location , location. Everything you need is literally on the doorstep.

The most important thing about this home is that it was and still is filled with love.

What makes this apartment unique

It's my home in downtown Killarney. Lucky me. We just renovated the whole house. A delux modern apartment on the first floor self contained. There is another self contained apartment on the ground floor

Guestbook comments from the manager

This is one of the best spots I have stayed in ever, and I have stayed in many across Europe and the US! Mairead and Brian are some of the friendliest people I have met and extremely nice. The place itself was very very clean, GREAT location, and spacious enough for at least two people, perhaps even 3. We stayed here for two nights and they were very attentive of us - providing us with plenty of supplies like soap, scones, and milk! They checked on us multiple times and went above and beyond all of our expectations. We loved staying there and very highly recommend others stay there as well!

Perfect stay in the middle of town

  • 5 of 5

Like all previous reviews, if you want to be in the middle of the activity, this is the perfect place. It is a beautiful and comfortable apartment with obvious attention to details. Mairead was wonderful in accommodating us when weather forced a last minute change of plans. Check in and out was simple. We highly recommend it .

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We visited Killarney after our 7 day bicycle trip through Galway. We were able to walk to the National Park, grocery store, restaurants, music and most importantly the bus stop. The town was busy, but that was exactly what we wanted. When we wanted quiet we closed the front windows and couldn't hear a thing. The apartment was very nicely decorated with lots of light and the sky light over the bed has a remote control shade. We ate most of our meals in the apartment but on two occasions ate at Stone Chat which is right down the small alley leading to the grocery strore. Excellent service and food. We would definitely stay here again.

Cozy & Private Apartment in the EpiCenter of Bustling Killarney

  • 5 of 5

We somehow stumbled upon this gem of a place in the very heart of Killarney (luck of the Irish rubbed off on us!) Mary from the store downstairs (where we got the key) drove with me around the block to show me the parking space behind the building. The apartment is sparkling and fit out with lots of amenities. It was fun having the key to our own entrance, to feel like we lived there. We enjoyed looking down on all the activities in the morning, e.g., delivery trucks with fresh fish, baked goods, local meats...

The Gap of Dunloe tour is an absolute must: a horse-drawn jaunty car through some of the most awesome scenery in the world followed by boating across beautiful lakes. The service people suggested a restaurant (The Flesk) down the street. It was superb.

Lovely Apartment in the heart of Downtown Killarney

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay here. The apartment had everything we needed, even including the necessary kitchen items to make a simple meal, and everything was very comfortable. We had a great view of the main road while still enjoying our privacy, and we were within walking distance to all the shops, pubs, tourist offices and anything else we might need. We spent a relaxing 4 days just after New Years - we would definitely stay here again!

Perfect Location and Charming

  • 4 of 5

A very cozy apartment right in the heart of all the action in Killarney. A very pleasant stay. The apartment was neat, clean, and looked brand new. We very much enjoyed the treats with stay and the ladies in the shop were very helpful. Parking wasn't my favorite or the most convenient, but what else can you do when its on main street. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again. Thanks so much!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review . It was a pleasure to have you stay in my apartment. I'm delighted you had a great stay. Sorry that the parking isn't more convenient to find. The one way traffic makes it awkward. I did explain that it wasn't finished. We are widening the entrance so it will be more accessible. The parking is free and parking in Killarney town is difficult and expensive. I'd love to host you again in Killarney again soon.

Lakes of Killarney

Celebrated in Music, Poetry and Art

Our deluxe apartment is ideally suited to explore beautiful Killarney.

Lough Leane (the Lower Lake), Muckross Lake (the Middle Lake) and the Upper Lake are threaded together across a quarter of Killarney National Park's 10,236 hectares. They support a rich variety of wildlife, from the trout and salmon that flourish in their waters and the swans and multitudes of other water birds that feed on them, to the deer that swim across their surfaces at night.

If you like fishing you can rent a boat at Ross Castle. You can also take a guided tour of Lough Leane in a waterbus, also from Ross Castle. Try your hand at kayaking the Lakes with an expert guide.

If you prefer to remain on dry land, there are many prime viewing spots where you can appreciate the wonder of the Lakes of Killarney. Drive north of Killarney town to Aghadoe for a magnificent panorama of the lakes set against the towering McGillycuddy Reeks and the peaks of Tomies and Purple Mountain. Or take a drive toward Kenmare and experience the lakes from the vantage point of Ladies View. Lots of choices to enjoy.

Ross Castle

A Medieval Bastion of Killarney

Ross Castle is located just 2km from the town of Killarney, off the road to Muckross and Kenmare. Recently featured on the front cover of National Geographic, as Hollywood actor and writer Andrew McCarthy traced his Kerry roots, the castle is a striking example of a restored Medieval stronghold.

Set against the backdrop of Killarney National Park, with the waters of Lough Leane lapping just outside, this is a magnificent example of an Irish chieftain's stronghold during the Middle Ages. It was probably constructed toward the end of the 15th century by a Chieftain of the O’Donoghue Ross clan. Shielded by a fortified bawn, the castle had a protective ring of circular flanking tower, two of which are still standing.

Hire a boat to Innisfallen, a monastic island visible from the front of the castle, take a trip on the waterbus, or organise a kayak trip

Torc Waterfall

Sheer White Music Rises and Falls

Just 8km from the Killarney town you'll find Torc Waterfall – a glorious testimony to the beauty of cascading water. It is located along the picturesque N71 Kenmare road.

Regularly listed among the Top 5 Things to See around Killarney, Torc Waterfall is a lovelystop for visitors touring the Ring of Kerry. Leave your car in the designated car park and stroll the 300 metres to the waterfall, the sound of the thundering water growing ever louder as you approach the landmark. The waterfall itself is about 20 metres high and is at its most impressive after heavy rain.
