Overview

About the property

An idyllic 3 bedroom cottage in the heart of the South Down National Park, with incredible views over the Sussex Weald. Coopers Cottage is a beautifully decorated and wonderfully comfortable converted 18th century farm building with a small private garden and stunning views. It is ideal for walking in historic Petworth Park and Ebernoe Nature Reserve, visiting Petworth House, award-wining local pubs and shops, Goodwood Festival of Speed, polo at Cowdray, and is a great area for cyclists.

This charming cottage is surrounded by countryside, ancient woodlands and truly magnificent views. It is ideal as a romantic hideaway for two, a family holiday home for 6, or a stylish getaway for friends. Coopers Cottage is a 18th century farm building which has been carefully restored and reconfigured into the perfect holiday cottage. The cottage has been stylishly and elegantly decorated, and has been designed to give you a truly comfortable stay. The double height sitting room has old stone walls and original beams. There are two sofas with beautiful silk Ikat cushions and a shearling throw to cuddle up with, as you sit and relax, or enjoy the view. There is a collection of books, binoculars, games, sky TV and Wifi. The sitting room is accessed down a short staircase off the kitchen. The modern kitchen is light and airy, with a large farmhouse table and chairs. The kitchen has an electric oven, an electric hob, a fridge and a washing machine, with a table large enough to sit 6 in comfort. There is no dishwasher or tumble dryer (a clothes dryer is available). The Master Bedroom has a King sized French Sleigh bed and an en suite bathroom with a roll top bath and a hand held shower. There is a double bedroom with a Queen sized brass bed and a good sized twin bedroom, which share a family shower room. The beds are made up with crisp white bed linen and warm bed throws, with smart fluffy towels. The bedrooms, the family shower room and the kitchen are all accessed from the hall. All of the rooms are on the ground floor. There is central heating throughout.

You have your own parking area for cars and bikes, and a private fenced garden, with a short brick path up to the front door. The views from the kitchen, sitting room, master bedroom and bathroom are simply across the Sussex Weald, which is breath taking and uplifting, even on a chilly February day! The view changes throughout the year, in Autumn the colours can rival New England and in Spring the woods are full of bluebells. You will find a well-positioned table and chairs in the cottage garden, overlooking the view, the perfect place to enjoy a morning cup of tea or glass of wine in the evening! From here you can watch buzzards and kites soaring across the sky and at certain times of the year, you can hear nightingales in the surrounding woods.

We would ask you to bring your own food, drinks and toiletries. The cottage is on a farm and at times of the year it can get muddy! We would recommend that you bring wellies! We have a tennis court which can be used only by prior arrangement. Please bring trainers, your own rackets and balls if you have arranged to play. We have a herd of pedigree Sussex cattle and South Down sheep, a dog and a farm cat. Please respect the animals and always shut gates and keep children supervised. We would kindly ask you to respect that the host's garden is solely for their family's use

Coopers cottage is within easy reach of Petworth Park, which was designed by Capility Brown and was one of Henry the XIII’s stag parks and is now run by the National Trust. It is a beautiful place for walks, with a stunning landscape and deer roaming freely. The historic market town of Petworth is 3 miles down the road with Petworth House, home to one of the best collections of painting by Turner, with regular exhibitions. The small town has wonderful tea and coffee shops, an award winning deli, renowned antiques shops and an antique market, stylish boutiques and a regular farmers market as well as good pubs and restaurants. There is a Co-op open until 10pm for food shopping. There are a number of great local country pubs nearby, including the award winning Noah's Ark, voted one of the top 20 country pubs in the UK only a couple of miles away, and the Stag at Balls Cross which is a 40 minute walk across country. From the cottage you can walk to the ancient woodlands of the Ebernoe Nature Reserve, considered the best site for bats in Western Europe, as well as buzzards, kites and nightingales, with stunning blue bells in the spring. It is also an excellent area to explore for cyclists. Goodwood is a 25 minutes drive away and so is easily accessible for the Festival of Speed, Glorious Goodwood and the Goodwood Revival. Cowdray is 15 minutes drive with Polo throughout the summer. Chichester and the beaches of the West Witterings make a good day out. The award wining Fishers Farm Park which is wonderful for children is only a ten minutes drive away. The British School of Ballooning is nearby for a truly spectacular view of the area.

We are approximately an hour and a quarter's drive from London, 40 minutes drive from Gatwick and 45 minutes drive from Heathrow, depending on the traffic. The nearest train station is Haslemere, which is a 15 minute drive, and has fast trains (55 minutes) to Waterloo and Victoria. We would recommend having a car. Coopers Cottage is accessed up the farm drive, past the host's house, with your own parking outside the cottage garden.

PLEASE NOTE: The kitchen has an electric oven, an electric hob, a fridge and a washing machine, with a table large enough to sit 6 in comfort. There is no dishwasher or tumble dryer (a clothes dryer is available). The master en suite bathroom has a bath with a handheld shower and the Family shower room has a shower cubicle. The bedrooms, the family shower room and the kitchen are all accessed from the hall. The sitting room is accessed down a short staircase off the kitchen. All of the rooms are on the ground floor. There is central heating throughout. We would ask you to bring your own food, drinks and toiletries. The cottage is on a farm and at times of the year it can get muddy! Absolutely Fantastic!!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here July 2017, two couples with two 4 year old girls! There was plenty of space and the girls loved having their own room! It was amazingly clean and all the essentials were provided for us. The location was ideal and the views from the cottage were brilliant. Petra could not have been more helpful and was accommodating when we asked to check out slightly later. She even let the girls play in her garden and they loved the dog, Pud! This weekend was fantastic and we all had a great time, couldn't recommend it enough! Thank you. :)

Just WOW

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing find! We have just spent a wonderful long weekend in this beautiful cottage with 4 adults and 2 toddlers, and it was absolutely outstanding.

Petra and family could not have done more for us! We were allowed to wander around the stunning grounds of the house as much as we wanted, and were even allowed to stay a little longer on Sunday morning which was very much appreciated.

The rolling fields, and views from the top of the hill are breathtaking, and a short drive into Petworth is more than worthwhile! Some beautiful local pubs to while away the afternoons!

The girls adored the house, especially the tennis court and our favourite morning visitor, Pud the beautiful black lab!

We cannot wait to go back! Thank you so much!

Very well presented property - wonderful views

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely if short weekend stay at Coopers cottage. Great time. The property was very well presented and equipped though lacked a hair dryer, guest soaps and shower gels/shampoos which is usually common practice. Only other issue was that it was very cold on our arrival - important to add that heating worked well and was sufficient throughout the rest of our stay. The owner was very welcoming and attentive.

Cottage full of character

  • 5 of 5

Regrettably, we only stayed 3 nights at the cottage. Very simply, it is exactly as described, great location, well equipped cottage with plenty of character and friendly host.

Would definitely consider returning and staying for longer.

Clean tidy and plenty of room

  • 5 of 5

We spent four enjoyable and comfortable nights at the property.

Access was easy with ample parking room. Petra was very friendly and helpful, and we got on well with other family members we encountered.

Facilities were first class, and there was ample equipment for cooking etc available, with the tennis court being an added bonus.

We would definitely consider staying there again.

Idyllic cottage with all facilities for a short stay met our needs absolutely.

  • 5 of 5

This very attractive cottage in an idyllic location suited our needs absolutely. The owner was exceptional helpful and flexible in meeting our special needs. The cottage has great character but importantly the essential facilities that enable a comfortable stay, namely beds, bathrooms, kitchen and sitting room were a high standard. We would certainly return again. Many thanks.
