About the property

Our beautiful house is to let having undergone an extensive and sympathetic restoration. Perfect for couples, families (baby things available) or friends looking for a traditional French stay with a modern stamp.

Perfect for winter and summer stays. Fully centrally-heated.

The house comprises: 3 bedrooms (note that 2 are adjoined so you go through one of the kingsize bedrooms to reach the bedroom with 3 single beds. This is perfect for families); a shower room, a further ensuite shower room, a bathroom, open-plan kitchen/dining room, sitting room with dining table, study/sun room, downstairs toilet and 2 utility rooms.

We've restored the house to provide a home-from-home and as such we hope you'll find it both well-equipped and comfortable.

We've focused on creating a layout with furnishings that fit a variety of uses – the kitchen/diner is open-plan, spacious and a really social space. There is a dining table which seats 8 as well as a breakfast bar overlooking the cooking space. You'll find an extendable dining table in the sitting room too for those who wish a change of scene! The kitchen leads to a lovely courtyard area where we spend the majority of our time as soon as spring emerges – it's really lovely to enjoy breakfast and long lunches, as well as lazy summer evening BBQs.

As parents of small children ourselves, the house is equipped with baby gates, a cot, various toys, a microwave steriliser, 2 x highchairs and a nightlight.

You'll have access to the entire house and garden (with courtyard), and the barn opposite for parking should you prefer covered parking or need to store anything.

There is one small television in the sitting room which has both English and French channels. This has a DVD player too. There is a selection of French and English DVDs available.

The single bed in bedroom 2 is a day bed which is larger than a single and not as big as a double.

Please note: Children should be supervised in the garden. While it's reasonably child-friendly, the garden does sit high up on rock.

The area: Brigueil le Chantre is a charming small village in the department of Vienne, ideal for exploring the wider area or simply perfect for kicking back and relaxing. We've plenty of walking routes on the doorstep. And what better way to enjoy the scenery.

We have a village shop, open most mornings, and the nearest town, La Trimouille, has several bars/restaurants and shops, and is just a 10 minute drive. Though not very French, we love the pizzas at Hotel de Nord (go with a big appetite).

Or go a little further, around 20 minutes drive, to Montmorillon, which has bars, restaurants, indoor and outdoor pools, and a weekly market. If you're after a really good, long dinner with all the trimmings you won't be disappointed by Hotel de France's Le Lucillus restaurant. And you can't beat Creperie Le Brouard for a superb crepe – Le Bruce Willis is highly recommended! Sit outside by the river to enjoy it at its best.

The lake at Chaillac about 20 minutes away, is a great place to take the kids and/or to do some fishing. Actually if fishing is your thing we have a small lake around 5 minutes by car from the house.

We're just an hour from both Poitiers (with its very popular theme park of Futuroscope) and Limoges. Poitiers has a lovely old town and has lots of things to see as well as good shopping, restaurants, bars etc.

Other places worthy of a visit: Chauvigny (30 mins), St Savin with its UNESCO abbey (30 mins), Le Blanc (20 mins), Planete des Crocodiles (we're annual pass holders we like it so much!) (35 mins). Its sister attraction, Iles Aux Serpents is just 10 mins away.

I could go on. But suffice to say there's a good variety of things to do.

When you arrive at the house, you'll find leaflets for things to do in the area, as well as recommendations for restaurants.

You need a car as there is no public transport available from this village.

There is plenty of parking in the village. You can usually park right outside the house, and we have a garage/barn opposite the house if you prefer to keep your car under cover.
