Overview

About the property

Sleeps 5, set in 50 acres private woodland nature reserve, lake, games barn.

Mardon is accessed via a stable door into a lounge with woodburning stove and dining area, a separate well equipped kitchen and a cloakroom with shower and toilet on the ground level. There is a TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs. A DAB radio which connects via bluetooth to your ipad/iphone enables you to bring your own music on holiday with you. There is an OS map in the bookcase so you can plan your walks in the local area and not get lost in the 45km of recently opened paths in Fingle Woods.

Upstairs there is one double bedroom and one triple bedroom, and a family bathroom with a bath. The triple bedroom has stairs up to a mezanine level. This is an ideal play area for older children or younger children under supervision, since it is accessed up steep stairs (there is a stair gate at the bottom). All beds have pocket sprung mattresses as we know from experience how an uncomfortable mattress can spoil your holiday.

The well equipped kitchen includes electric cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and Nespresso Machine with complimentary coffee pods. There is access from the kitchen via a stable door to a south-facing private fenced garden with paved area and garden furniture. A bird feeder just outsdie the lounge window attracts a wide range of birds to the garden.

There is a large games barn where you can battle it out with family and friends over the table tennis table, table football or snooker.

A new district biomass central heating and hot water system, alongside double glazing throughout and a woodburner make the cottage extremely cozy.

A communal washing machine is also available for use.

Why Vicki Bloomfield chose Exeter

We fell in love with Clifford Barton in the summer of 2013, as a wonderful place to raise our family. Having renovated the cottages to a high standard, we are delighted to invite others to come and enjoy the peace and quiet and rich natural environment that this part of the Country has to offer. We manage the 50 acres of woodland, meadows, lake and ponds for wildlife and its enjoyment.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful peaceful location with 50 acres of private woodland nature reserve with stunning lake that you are welcome to wander around. The location is rich in wildlife with a bird feeder just outside the living room window so you can view the great bird life without having to get up from the sofa.

Fingle woods and Dunsford Wood Nature Reserve are a short walk away and the River Teign which has great wild swimming spots. You are welcome to borrow bikes and cycle along a track next to the River to a riverside pub, or carry on walking up to Castle Drogo.

The rustic games barn is great for children and adults alike with a snooker table, table football, table tennis table, a very rustic piano and even a stage for any budding young dramatists.

Excellent accomodation in the heart of Devon

  • 5 of 5

Some of the best accomodation we have stayed in both in the UK and overseas, the cottage was warm and very comfortable. There was plenty of space for two adults and two teenagers. Booking was very easy and great contact was maintained. The cottage was better than described and very well located just of the main A30. Extra touches and attention to detail such as a very well equipped kitchen (even the knives were sharp) meant that preparing meals with fanatastic local ingredients was a pleasure.

Already highly recommended to family and friends and will certainly be our base next time we are in beautiful Devon.

Super countryside getaway

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully situated in the peaceful countryside, Mardon is very well equipped and tastefully decorated. The triple bedroom for the boys was spacious and comfortable (with some places, the second bedroom can be a bit of squeeze but not here). We appreciated having 2 bathrooms and both were high spec.

The hosts are lovely and have thought of everything including bird food for the bird feeder outside our window so we saw many pretty birds in our garden. The boys couldn't believe their luck when they saw all the scooters and bikes to use and the games room was terrific for both parents and kids. The lake was conveniently close-by and lovely. We took a magical walk through the forest following the gushing river all the way to the pub. Have already recommended to friends.

Lovely cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 2 nights in Mardon Cottage, we were welcomed with a lovely homemade cake, it is well equipped and the decor is very tastefully done and comfortable. The log burner was easy to light and having the extra shower downstairs was very useful.

A lovely place to stay and nestled in the lovely countryside of Dartmoor.

We would definitely book this cottage again.

Stunning location and beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cottage as a 40th birthday present for my wife and for my daughter’s 7th birthday. On the day we arrived Vicki - the owner – had baked us a very tasty cake and also left a bottle of local apple juice which was much appreciated. The location and scenery is just stunning with a lake just a few minutes’ walk. The backdrop to the cottage is beautiful with nothing but pine forest and open fields. Just 5 or so minutes’ walk from the cottage is the start of a wonderful hiking trail with the River Teign running parallel to the footpath. We found a great little picnic spot with the river on one side and the forest on the other - truly magical. The cottage itself is full of character and has everything you need including a playroom at the top which our girls enjoyed using. All in all, we had a fantastic time and it truly was one of the best holidays we as a family have had. 100% recommended. Thank you to Vicki and her husband

Happy days, great stars, helpful hosts

  • 5 of 5

I spent a lovely week with my family and grandchildren at Clifford Barton. The cottage was delightful, in a fantastic location. It was cosy, comfortable and beautifully furnished with the personal touch of handmade decor. It is a paradise for countryside lovers, with beautiful walks, wildlife, a lake, river and a play barn, all of which make it a safe haven for children. The Bloomfield family are so friendly and gave us such a warm welcome, not to mention the tasty homemade cake. We will be back to this relaxing idyll in the Teign Valley.

Dartmoor, at almost 1000 sq km is the largest and wildest area of open country in Southern England. A glorious wilderness with open moorland, granite tors, sparkling rivers, abundant wildlife and the renowned Dartmoor ponies. There are many spectacular walks, great pubs, and places to eat….There is so much to do it is difficult to know where to start but why not try horseriding, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, canoeing, abseiling, fishing, golfing, wildlife or birdwatching.

Moretonhampstead - (8 minutes drive or a brisk stroll away) is an ancient market town located on the North Eastern edge of Dartmoor National Park. It is a town of character and dates back over 1000 years to Saxon times, and is known as The Gateway to the Moor. It is the ideal base from which to explore some of Britain’s most spectacular countryside. No part of the National Park is more than an hour’s drive away from the town and most of the well-known beauty spots are close by.

Moretonhampstead is almost exactly in the centre of Devon, making it the perfect place from which to visit the north and the south coasts.
Two major events not to be missed this summer are Moreton Music Day in July, and Moretonhamptead Carnival in August. There is also the award winning, New Green Hill Arts Gallery that is worth a visit.

Chagford is only 6 miles away with its stylish boutique shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Dunsford - a pretty village 5 minutes drive away with village shop, post office and Tea rooms.

Exeter – is 8 miles (20 minutes drive away).
