Ideal apartment near beach, with terrace,, ideal for walkers and dogs

La Petite Auvergne is a self-contained apartment with a spacious bedroom (adaptable with two single beds or a kingsize double), a pretty terrace leading directly from the bedroom with tables and wrought-iron bench seating, a mini kitchen with dining area and a comfortable bathroom with rolltop basin, shower and WC. The property is part of the owners old farmhouse, which also houses a larger family house (please see ref 8107036 if you would like to book both properties for family/group of friends) - all three properties are joined but entirely separate; this is an ideal choice if you would like to be in an extremely isolated spot in the Normandie bocage but with the owners on-hand for help with local reservations at restaurants or general advice about the region. L'Auvergne is home to various rescued animals including sheep, geese, ducks and cats (of many colours).

  • There is a shower with hand rail (not a wet room) which has a small ridge to cross for entry. There is a lavatory and good-sized roll-top washbasin with large mirrors facing and behind on opposite wall. There is a large heated towel rail and also a chair and sufficient shelf-table space.

  • We offer a kingsize bed or this can be separated to offer two single beds, whichever you prefer. There is a chest of drawers, bedside tables and lamps and an oak coffer on which to place luggage etc. The bathroom is en-suite to the bedroom. There are french doors opening onto the terrace and the bedroom leads to the kitchen which has generous amount of windows for ventilation at night too without having to open the french doors. The floors are all tiled and would be suitable for a walker or wheelchair if needed. We would also be able to provide a wheelchair ramp from terrace into property. Do please contact us if you would like more information about the suitability for persons with reduced mobility and we will do everything we are able to help on this.

Beautiful tranquil retreat

We had a lovely relaxing weekend at La Petite Auvergne. It is a beautifully decorated, self contained apartment which has everything you need. What is really special however is the location - a lovely hidden spot in the country but very close to the coastal towns of Barneville and Portbail. Penny and Hugh are the perfect hosts, very unobtrusive but helpful and kind when you need to know something. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended. There is also a bigger 2 bed gite at the back, perfect for a family.

Inspiring haven of tranquili

La France Profonde with 'sympa' English owners you're unaware are somewhere around but ever helpful if you need local insider tips etc. Of course it's clean, tidy and comfortable (I've never slept so well) but above all for me, allowed thinking through and inspired writing up long put-off writing and other challenges. Recommended for shorter stories or longer oeuvres.

I had a wonderful relaxing 4 day stay with my partner and baby daughter. This quiet, clean apartment is tastefully decorated, very comfortable and had everything that we needed.

We enjoyed exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside, visits to nearby market towns and walks on the sand dunes. Local restaurants provided memorable seafood and bbq meals. We also were able to prepare meals at the apartment and enjoy them on the sunny terrace, soaking up the calm atmosphere and getting to know the geese, ducks and cats looked after by wonderful hosts Penny and Hugh.

I had a lovely relaxing four day stay here with my partner and baby daughter. The appartment is very tastefully decorated and comfortable and it had everything we needed for our stay.

We enjoyed visits to nearby market towns, delicious seafood and traditional bbqs in local restaurants and walks on the sand dunes and surrounding countryside. The kitchen area had all we needed to prepare meals eaten out on the sunny terrace made even more enjoyable by getting to know the geese, ducks and cats cared for by wonderful hosts Penny and Hugh.

Beautiful walking country, especially along the old customs' paths along the rugged coastline. Also, for birdwatchers, the Marais - a natural reserve, is exceptional. We are able to supply walking maps and advice and even offer a Guided Walking Day Out with lunch at a local restaurant if this is of interest. All the local towns offer a market every day from Monday to Saturday.
