Riverbank Cottage dates from the 1890's and is a stone built terraced cottage in a row of former Estuary workers' cottages. It has its own driveway parking for one vehicle. Its position is unique in that this quaint cottage is only a 10 minute walk along the Estuary from the centre of Bideford and yet it is situated in a very quiet no through road set away from the hustle and bustle of the town. All the pubs, restaurants and shops are an easy level walk from the cottage, with some of these delightful venues overlooking the estuary.

Sleeping 4-6 in two bedrooms plus travel cot and high hair available, this characterful cottage has a welcoming log burner in the spacious lounge which is well equipped with toys and games as well as TV, DVD player and Wii console.

There is a separate dining room with a dining table that seats 4 - 6. The dining room features an attractive stone fireplace; there is a double sofa bed available for extra guests (please note bedding / towels not supplied for sofa bed or travel cot). NB Using the sofa bed may restrict numbers around the table unless it is put away during the day.

The kitchen is equipped with washer dryer, microwave, electric oven and gas hob. Everything is supplied for your stay including tea, coffee, sugar, condiments and welcome pack. The kitchen opens out into a little court yard with a patio table and chairs; there is a barbecue available for guest use too.

Upstairs is a master bedroom with a king size bed and an extra TV. The second bedroom has two single beds which can be made up as a king size bed if required. The bathroom is spacious with a bath and power shower over the bath. The cottage is warm and comfortable with gas central heating, constant hot water by way of a combi boiler plus the gorgeous log burner that has logs supplied free of charge for guest use.

NO extra charges at all. We supply all bedding and towels for the two bedrooms. We do not charge any extra for dogs or gas and electricity.

Outdoor games such as cricket, badminton and racquet games are supplied for guests' use. There is a beautiful park (Victoria Park) with a lido for young children which is only minutes away on foot towards the town centre. Or you can walk or hire bikes to go along the nearby Tarka Trail. Only 2 miles away is the lovely little sandy beach at Instow. There are also 3 surf boards and 3 body boards at the cottage that guests are welcome to use if they want to go 3 miles up the road to the great water sports beach at Westward Ho!, or both Saunton Sands and Croyde are nearby.

About Juliet & Alex

We are a big family with dogs who love outdoor pursuits including surfing, kite surfing, body boarding, canoeing, cycling and walking. We have always loved Devon but work commitments keep us in the city so we bought our cottage in 2015 primarily for our own use but decided to offer it to others to enjoy when we are unable to.

Juliet & Alex purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Juliet & Alex chose Bideford

Location, location location! This cottage is set in a tranquil no through road at the edge of the estuary and yet it is only a five to ten minute stroll into the quaint little 'white town' of Bideford either along the estuary or through beautiful Victoria Park. It has the benefit of its own driveway for parking.

It dates from the 1890's and is built of traditional stone with two beautiful fireplaces. The large stone chimney breast is an ornamental fireplace in the dining room and the lounge fireplace boasts a cosy log burner. Both these features have been restored by us having been covered over with plaster in recent years.

We love the blend of character that comes with an old property along with the modern comforts of a good power shower, gas central heating and a log burner for the colder months!

Both of us have previous links to the West Country and Bideford captured our hearts as it offers the unique mix of beautiful countryside as well as a thriving town with shops and a pannier market and also quirky and quaint pubs and restaurants.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage's great location means that it benefits from:

- being only a stroll away from shops, pubs, restaurants and an array of takeaways

- less than a 10 min drive to Westward Ho! beach and its water sports

- sits on the Tarka Trail (beautiful walks and cycle rides)

- within an easy walk or cycle of both Appledore and Instow

- learn to surf or kite surf at local schools in the area

Lovely dog friendly accommondation

  • 5 of 5

Riverbank Cottage is in a great location, just a 15 / 20 minute gentle stroll along the bank of the river into town or via Victoria Park. The cottage is beautifully decorated and well maintained and has a plethora of information guides and books for the adults and games for children to play. Plenty of car parking, including a private space in front of the cottage, and very quiet at night time. The kitchen is well appointed and the beds are super comfy. We loved our holiday and Riverbank Cottage contributed hugely to a nice, relaxing break.

Perfect for access to the Tarka Trail

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Riverbank Cottage, which has got everything you need. Loved our cosy nights in with the log burner crackling away! We spent 2 days cycling the Tarka Trail, which is really close to the cottage. The house is spotless, the welcome treats of chocolate biscuits and bottle of Prosecco was a lovely touch too.

  • 5 of 5

It was a lovely cottage and we really enjoyed our stay. Good location handy for local shops and dog friendly pubs. We were out and about most days only coming back in the evening's to chill out. It was home for the week and we have both said we would go again.

Perfect cottage for a family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is really well equipped for a family with plenty of board games, DVDs and even a wii to play on rainy afternoons. We were supplied with a good, clean travel cot and high chair for our baby. It's just a short walk along the river to a lovely park. We had great days out at Westward Ho!, Instow and Appledore which are all within 10 minutes drive. Also plenty more to see and do if you wanted to travel a little further afield. Overall this is a great base for exploring the local area or just relaxing indoors and it is tucked away in a very quiet spot.

Fantastic stay all round, can't be faulted

  • 5 of 5

Riverbank Cottage is in a great location for Bideford town, The Tarka Trail & other walks plus short drives to beautiful villages in the area. It is superbly equipped in the kitchen and provides lots of information for surrounding places of interest. Although the outside areas are small, car parking is provided & the back catches the afternoon sun. A very relaxing & enjoyable week.
