Overview

About the property

This luxury timber framed lodge is located in one of the most spectacular parts of Wales at the foot of the Cambrian mountains, next to Gilfach nature reserve.

Powered by the sun and biomass fuel, everything is environmentally friendly.

Relax in the dead sea salt, wood fired hot tub next to the river and cook on the firepit table under the stars.

The main lodge sleeps 2 in a kingsized bed.

The separate, self contained annex also sleeps 2 in a kingsized bed.

The lodge was built and designed for low impact living by the architect at the Centre for Alternative Technology ( CAT ) in Machynlleth.

Everything from the build, the local timbers used, the paint, recycled furniture, fixtures, fittings and appliances are super eco.

Heating is from a wonderful wood pellet stove which self ignites at the flick of a switch.

Super insulated and triple glazed with passive solar heating via the conservatory that spans the length of the south side.

The main lodge and the self contained annexe both have kingsize beds with wool mattresses and duvets with indian pure cotton covers.

Both have a shower room using boilerless water heating.

The main lodge has a large smart TV that pops out from the wall, the annexe has its own smart TV and sofa lounging area. Netflix Movies are provided too.

A bluetooth surround speaker system is on the wall to connect your smartphone or MP3 player.

Please feel free to have a tinkle on the piano. It is tuned and has a beautiful tone surrounded by the wooden walls.

There is also a selection of board games, books and a casino standard poker set.

The lodge has unlimited Wifi. It has a comfortable desk with a wireless printer / fax / scanner and copier.

The kitchen is fully equipped for every chef with cooker, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, fridge, dishwasher and all the copper pans and equipment you can think of.

Out in the utility room there is a low energy washing machine and also a drier and a small freezer.

Outside in the large, lawned garden there is a wonderful, wood fired hot tub. Unlike most hot tubs we don't use toxic chemicals and the same water for months, just Dead Sea Salt water freshly changed for every guest. There are no noisy bubbles, just the peaceful sounds of nature, the crackling of the wood fire and the river rippling by.

There are sunloungers and a large round firepit table where you can enjoy a BBQ and soak up the tranquility.

About Mark and Jo

Mark has worked in the hotel industry all over the world and was a head chef on large motor yachts for many years. He also cooked on film sets including Spielberg's "Empire of the sun" and " A fish called Wanda."

Jo is a chemotherapy nurse, travelling the length and breadth of the UK working in many different hospitals who require her skills and care.

We like to spend as much time as possible paragliding, kayaking, cycling and generally just wandering around this beautiful part of the world.

We don't take the "important" things too seriously and are laughing, easy going, glass half full type people.

Mark and Jo purchased this house in 2012

Why Mark and Jo chose Rhayader

Hidden in a quiet cul-de-sac on the edge of St.Harmon village near the Cambrian mountains and Elan Valley lakes.

Ty Coed is secluded but with the security of having a few neighbours. A large lawned garden, high laurel hedge and river border provides privacy and peace to enjoy the hot tub, sun-loungers and fire pit barbecue.

Watch the Red Kites riding the thermals above or as night falls, low light pollution means clear bright star gazing with only the sound of the river bubbling by.

Excellently situated and presented

  • 5 of 5

The property was extremely well presented and spotlessly clean. Mark the property owner met us on arrival to take us through the property and served us with a Welsh cake and tea which was greatly appreciated. The property is fantastic and very comfortable. Mark was really friendly and made us feel really welcome. We would certainly recommend this property to anyone wishing to explore this most beautiful part of Wales. We would certainly stay at Ty Coed again
