Characterful Stockbridge garden flat on the edge Edinburgh's New Town

'The Old Bakehouse' is a converted basement in a terrace that was designed by architect Robert Brown in 1825 as part of Edinburgh's New Town. It has two spacious bedrooms, a beautiful sitting/dining room which looks out on to a quiet garden, and a fully fitted kitchen and shower room. The apartment was rennovated in 2015 and is situated in the cosmopolitan Stockbridge area near the Water of Leith and on the edge of the New Town.

** Please note that the ceilings in the flat are quite low and people over six feet tall will not be able to move around comfortably in some of the rooms **

The sitting room has a three-piece suite, freeview TV and a DVD player and the adjoining dining area seats four people. This room opens directly onto the communal garden.

The bedrooms are spacious and each one contains a double bed and ample cupboard and wardrobe space. Both beds have electric blankets.

The shower room is newly refurbished and has shower, basin, toilet and a large heated towel rail.

The kitchen is also newly refurbished and contains a fridge/freezer, microwave, combined electric oven and grill, ceramic hob and dishwasher.

The apartment has gas central heating and hot water on demand. There is also a washing machine, folding cot for toddlers or babies and a high chair. There is also wireless internet access.

All bed linen and towels are provided for guests, together with a welcome-pack consisting of hot and cold drinks and freshly baked cakes or cookies.

I always try to be at the apartment to welcome guests personally on arrival and on the rare occasions when I am not available guests can obtain the keys via a key-safe facility.

I bought this flat with my husband two years ago because we live one hour away from Edinburgh towards the west near a town called Lanark and we decided that we would like to spend some more time in the Capital. The flat immediately appealed to us because it is quite unusual, nice and quiet and it opens out directly onto the garden.

What makes this apartment unique

This flat is cosy and comfortable and also very secluded and quiet. It's hard to believe that you are in the middle of Scotland's capital city but when you venture outside you find yourself in the heart of bustling Stockbridge and just a short walk away from the many attractions of both the New Town and the Old Town. I love to walk and explore and it's possible to do this for hours on end in Edinburgh.

Cosy flat in a great location

We had a lovely short break in October in this flat.

Stockbridge is great location, it has a village feel of its own, but is still within walking distance of Edinburgh city centre.

The flat is cosy and welcoming, and had everything we needed for our break, including some delicious ginger cake that Chrissy left for us. We hope to be back again.

Perfect place to stay in Edinburgh!

Great Flat! Clean and very spacious! Great neighbourhood! It does not have designated parking which was a concern for us, but fortunately, we were there over the weekend and lucked out with a spot on the street in front of the flat. Would definitely recommend this place and would definitely stay there again!

Charming, well located and beautifully appointed flat

My sister and I stayed for a week in this wonderful flat. Location wise it was perfect - only a 15- 20 minute walk to Waverley and all that Edinburgh has to offer (if you don't fancy the walk there is a bus!). The area around the flat is bustling with shops, restaurants and pubs. The flat itself is so well thought out and beautifully renovated without losing any of its charm. Chrissy was so easy to work with, she is responsive and super accommodating. Every thing you could need, Chrissy has thought of and then there are details like spare batteries for the remote! The folder with instructions covered everything in an easy and straightforward manner. We so appreciated the great coffee machine, the DVD library and of course the gorgeous courtyard garden. The only thing my sister and I fought over the whole week was the last slice of a delicious chocolate, nutty, fruity treat that Chrissy left us as a welcome!! Don't hesitate - go ahead and book this now!

Super lovely flat with all you need. Close to city center.

We had 4 days in the flat, everything has been fine. Chrissie was there to meet us and explain everything about the flat, which were very nice. There is a very nice back garden where we could enjoyed a morning coffee and a good book, in the morning sun. I don't think I have any negative things to say about the flat, the smallest thing a can think of is you couldn't lock the door to the toilet. A place I certainly want to came back to.

Owner's Response: I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I am so sorry that you were unable to purchase pods for the coffee machine locally. I'm afraid that when I bought it I didn't realise that it didn't take the more widely available pods such as Nespresso or Tassimo. I have now provided a stock of them so the guests can use the machine. I do hope that you were able to make decent coffee using the alternative cafetiere or stove-top espresso machine.
