Overview

About the property

1 bed, open plan, quality renovation. 50m2 pool in the "Garden of France".

A recent loft renovation done with taste and a touch of luxury.

With its exposed beams, the open plan finish gives guests that peace, rest & comfort, whilst remaining with that feeling of 5* ambiance. With both heating and a log burner, it can be used all year round. Fully equipped for your every need and comfort with large flatscreen TV (english and french), DVD, fully equipped kitchen, beautiful, uniquely set rolltop bath and a huge bed.

Le Grenier has been impressively well received.

Le Grenier offers everything for a romantic retreat or a stay in the "Garden of France", as the Vallee de Loir is known. Arriving to a fully renovated courtyard, filled with colour and flowers, you can immediately feel calmed and relaxed, pulling up, the 50sqm pool (solar heated) can be seen hidden behind the Ecurie (stables). With the landscaped grounds, there is plenty of room to stroll around or just laze in the sun on one of our sun loungers.

Le Grenier has it's own private garden and seating area with a terrace including BBQ, table, chairs and parasol. We do try and keep on top of the weeding, but don't let us stop you helping out!

Climbing the few stairs, you arrive at a private balcony, perfect for those morning teas or coffees, breakfast and also an afternoon "apero" (drink). Through the low doorway (duck or grouse), you are instantly welcomed to a large open plan living space, ancient beams rising above you creating the most amazing ambiance. A luxury space filled with great quality furnishings including a sofabed. A fully fitted kitchen including dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave and fridge freezer. Passing through to the bedroom with an open plan roll top bath, you'll be greeted by the sight of a huge, superking sized bed.

All heated along with the wood burner, the gite is ideal for any time of year.

About Kay Thompson

Trevor (the boss or so he thinks) is ex Disney management and also was the chef /manager at his own successful restaurant. He speaks French (helpful for booking restaurants and any emergencies), Dutch & German.

Kay (the real boss) used to work in the Thames Valley Police and then in a legal practice in the UK.

We then have Senna (head of security), Reena (head of sports and entertainment) and Max (bouncer and cuddle monster), all three of whom have just been promoted to bloggers.

Kay Thompson purchased this farmhouse in 2015

Why Kay Thompson chose Luceau

"The garden of France" the Vallee de Loir is known as, home of Chateaux, within an hour there are no less than about 40 (some of the best known in the whole country).

Under 2.5 hrs from Caen, 35 mins from the cities of Le Mans (famed for its race track and 24 hour races throughout the year) and Tours with its own history and airport. Just 5 minutes off the motorway and on the main route from the north of France to the south and the Spanish borders. Rural, yet just 2 minutes drive from a town with all amenities, from restaurants and bars, supermarkets and shops and a history all of its own.

We are set in our own little valley far enough from the town for it to be incredibly tranquil, the morning chorus of birdsong is a must at least once in your visit. Our own 2 acre lake just a flat cycle road along the lane, cycling groups pass us by, especially on Sundays and the Tour de Sarthe whizzed by 7 times last year. We do have cars go by, but it tends to be a tractor, woodpecker or cuckoo that breaks the silence. An idyllic retreat to get away to.

Of all our guests so far, every single one has commented on how relaxed they feel here and just how well they have slept.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Recommended by the tourist office for a 5* rating. Luxuriously renovated original watermill (unfortunately decommissioned in 1952). Set in its own valley you arrive to an open courtyard, gites to the right and onsite owners to the left. The courtyard helps create a unique microclimate with temperatures frequently well above those forecast. filled with colour and flowers, it is immediately calming and then you see the pool, 50sqm and solar heated, hidden behind the old stables. Peaceful and tranquil, our bottle wall garden is the talk of many visitors, yet close enough to all facilities and a huge array of amazing days out. We have over an acre of land and are very dog friendly.

Cycling and walking are great pastimes here, the flat surface into town and to the villages the other way, make it ideal for all the family, there's a rental shop in town that delivers, it is that perfect! Fishing too with multiple options from our own 2 acre lake, the prize catch lake of Macon (Carp to 70+lbs, to the trout stocked creek bordering our grounds.

Guestbook comments from the owner

An unexpected stop in Chateau du Loir – super little town with all the facilities – the tourist office suggested a B&B a few minutes away ‘in the countryside’ and it turned-out to be a group of farm buildings recently converted for gites. We were installed in a loft apartment beautifully converted and totally convenient. We were offered use of the 50 metre pool and they were quite happy to light the BBQ and provide dinner al-fresco if we wanted. Trevor & Kay were delightful hosts and we stayed an extra two days enjoying their hospitality. Thoroughly recommended and we’re going to take the kids next time.

Superbe location

  • 5 of 5
