A great base to enjoy the area from. Well equipped and comfortable .

A unique ,individual quirky country styled 2 bedroom rural property ,situated a couple of minutes from the A38. Outstanding views of Dartmoor and near to the superb beaches and countryside that are the South Hams of Devon, The property has 2 spacious bedrooms , a comfortable sitting room with large log burner ( wood included). Central heating for the winter. There is a well equipped kitchen with microwave,dishwasher and washing machine . Good sized bathroom with large bath and shower. Outside is a suntrap dining area , large secluded grounds and seating areas, magnificent views over Dartmoor.The property stands on its own in its own grounds and has ample parking. Ideal for couples and families and for touring the area or for visiting the nearby towns of Totnes and Dartmouth. Its position makes it a great place for stopping off on journeys to Cornwall .

Great place and location

First off, let me start by saying that my first impressions were great! This is a great place to stay.

The property is bright, spacious and well equipped. The outside area was great to have breakfast and the views from the top of the bank were stunning. As there is absolutely no light pollution the sky at night was spectacular!

For us the only downside was that the property is very remote and we had to drive literally everywhere.

The property itself is right on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and only a short drive (30mins) from very pretty beach coves that are all doggie friendly. Close to National Trust woodland, with stunning walks.

The small town of Totnes is very close by and well worth a visit.

There is a very good restaurant nearby (Turtley Corn Mill) that is doggie friendly. The food and service were fabulous, has lovely gardens and the owner was charming. Also, this is the only restaurant that I have taken my dog to where she was not confined to her lead, in the gardens she could run around and investigate (the way dogs do).

In short, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property and in this area.

10/10 for the property and area! Also, Richard the owner was on hand at all times.

Not as expected

Expected a nice quirky cottage. Arrived to find out it is a stable block which has been made from tyres and built using reclaimed products. The layout of the place was good, but it did not feel clean. The surfaces, floors and linen had all been cleaned but the ceiling was covered in cobwebs and the inside of the chests were dirty. The hot water was on a tank, so on our second morning we ran out of hot water (not ideal with a 6 month old baby). We managed to switch the tank back on but had to wait a couple of hours to get enough hot water for showers. We were told that the cottage did not need to be locked at all and there was no key - if we really wanted then there was a padlock with a code, but I assume the code never changes so this didn't seem too safe. To get into the property you have to unhook a big gate by reaching through and taking a chain off a nail - this is fine, except the fence is covered in razor wire and if it's dark you only have the light from your car headlights! The cottage also did not seem electrically safe as there were wires hanging out of the walls. I don't think any checks could've been done on this property before it had been allowed to be let out. Such a shame as it could've been such a nice place.

Dartmoor is just across the valley offering 365 square miles of great scenery. A must when visiting the area. Beaches areb near and plentiful with fine clean sand and good for surfing and swimming.
