Overview

About the property

Peacefully located three bedroom property with extensive garden

Lyncroft was built in traditional limestone around the year 1700 and extended sbout sixty years ago, Opposite is the horse chestnut which fills the tiny village green of Old Bussage. Down from the green meanders a small lane which leads to the Toadsmoor Valley, a seldom visited Cotswold gem.

Like so much of South Gloucestershire the valley offers a variety of splendid walking. of varying difficulty. Straight out of Lyncroft's front door guests can go on circular walks to such places as Slad, France Lynch, Bisley and the Golden Valley. Within ten to fifteen miles are found what seem to be an infinite array of paths and lanes which in our view make up the best walking country in England.

In contrast some guests settle down for long periods in the back garden. This garden is of what I call 'a goodly size'. The lawn is surrounded by deep borders: the foliage is diverse whilst flowers and shrubs give widely varied colour from March to October, In the middle of the garden is a fishpond, its edges raised well above the ground. Adventurous problems have never, to our knowledge, presented problems.

The bottom of the garden is given over to vegetable growing and a boules pit which guests are welcome to use.

Whilst children can run around in the garden, they can, like holidaying dogs, be taken to the nearby park which offers yet more opportunity for exercise, Additionally there is a plentiful amount of playground equipment to keep children amused. On their return to the cottage, they can use the playroom which is full of toys and games.

Also on the ground floor are a spacious kitchen with walk in larder, utility, bathroom, lounge and dining room. The rooms are spacious, with many books and Wi-Fi. For guests who arrive in the winter, a large wood burner awaits. Two reasons for caution - firstly there are steps between the lounge and dining room and secondly very tall guests can find the height of some doorways challenging.

A further flight of steps leads to the first floor. Off the landing are a bathroom and three bedrooms. More books await. Two bedrooms contain double beds and the third a trundle bed. This room is quite big enough for two children to use but two adults might consider the amount of space available slightly restricted.

Gloucestershire is full of good things to do. If you want to visit the more well known Cotswold villages, lots can be reached within an hour and all within an hour and a half. History abounds in the shapes of Oxford, Bristol and Stratford. Don't forget the splendid house of Chastleton!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Kate Campbell said : ' We could not have wished for a more delightful and comfortable house and location. The house is gorgeous - our children cherished what they called ' the cubby house room ' - full of toys ! The restoration/renovations of the property have been very professionally completed - giving the house a cosy feel. A fully equipped kitchen, facilities, bathroom and outdoor garden made our stay very comfortable. The area surrounding Bussage is full of a lot of thriving local produce which is worth exploring and tasting. Your house made our holiday in England comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.

Lucy Hampshire said : 'We appreciated all the creature comforts. The cottage was beautiful and in a lovely location. We had a nice relaxing time and the children really enjoyed all the toys in the playroom.

Julia Batavia said : 'We had a wonderful stay and all thought the cottage was beautiful. I must add that we lacked no amenities and the location was wonderful.'

Great family home, in a good location and where the people are friendly. The local pub is excellent.

Should the owners sort out the poor flow of the shower - downstairs - and make a available a 2-3 adaptor plugs for computers and mobile phones everything would perfect.

Owner's Response: The comments relating to computers etc are noted. We have made the property available for renting for a number of years now. During that period no other comments have been received regarding the shower as far as we can remember.

A lovely, homely cottage.

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Lyncroft. Rob and Meg were lovely and very helpful.

We spent most of the week sitting in the sun in the beautiful garden, watching the fish and tadpoles in the pond and our dogs kept us amused with their confusion of their reflection in the garden mirror.

The house was clean and homely and Rob and Meg were lovely and very helpful.

We didn't realise this was their home so was very well equipped. The only thing we missed was a microwave but we got around that.

Thank you for allowing us into your home 😊

A lovely comfortable cottage in a beautiful area.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week in Bussage with wonderful walks every day. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped, with a very pretty garden. Good country pubs both in Bussage and the surrounding village and a shop within walking distance. This is a fantastic walking area and we are delighted to have found it.

Lovely stay in the heart of the cotswolds

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week in this comfortable and charming house. The house is situated within a village with a number of houses nearby. There is a pub within easy walking distance with okay food. The house is comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. It is a charming property. My only caution is for tall people - my father is 6'4'' and spent the week bumping his head on doorframe. My husband at 6' seemed to have no problems. Meg and Rob made the process of booking and our stay easy. Many Thanks for a great weeks holiday.
