About Kerry Gilbert

I have lived in Torbay for five years and my partner is a local lad who has lived in Torquay for many years so is always good for local knowledge on attractions, local pubs and directions to find somewhere, I still ask for directions myself. We love to walk our two young dogs who keep us busy and really enjoy our visits to Dartmoor. We both work locally me in Totnes and my partner in Exeter and we love the beautiful beaches and countryside we are lucky enough to find close by.

We would love you to come and enjoy the pretty village of Marldon and experience all the local area has to offer,

Why Kerry Gilbert chose Marldon

We spent many happy times in Marldon and love the village, it is so close to Torquay and Paignton yet still has a village feel. The house is close to the village centre so you can walk to the local pub and has excellent access to the South Devon Highway.

We have recently finished refurbishing the property so the furnishing are all new and just waiting for their first visitors to enjoy the quiet location and cosy vibe.

What makes this house unique

The best thing about Pottery Mews is the village location so close to the more vibrant towns of Torquay and Paignton, you can spend a busy day sight seeing and come home to a lovely Devon village for a peaceful nights sleep or BBQ in the garden.

Just come and enjoy our newly furnished home and love it as much as we do.

Nice place, good value, in a good location

  • 5 of 5

The house is very comfortable and well presented. There was a little noise, mainly at getting ready for school time, from next door, but given this is a terraced modern property it wasn't a lot and the neighbours were very friendly. My husband and the dog appreciated the Welcome Pack goodies :) The patio garden proved to be a nice sun trap and if the weather had been warmer we would have used it a lot more.

Loved the location. The dog walking areas in the village were perfect, and we met lots of nice humans and dogs. We would do a little circuit going up to Ipplepen Road, through the top park/ field area, past the church, into and around the meadow across from the pub, and then back up to the house. Just enough for morning exercise. The pub is great, lovely food and friendly, they accommodated my vegan meal requests happily. One day we did a 5.5 mile circular walk route to Berry Pomeroy Castle which I found online. Highly recommend, beautiful and peaceful walk with views to the sea and Dartmoor. In fact even if we don't stay in Marldon next time, we'll be back to do that walk! And of course easy access to the bypass for the beaches of Torbay, or inland to Dartmoor. We love Goodrington Sands anyway as a dog beach but this time also discovered Cantina cafe/bar there that is dog friendly.

All in all we had a good stay and would definitely recommend to others.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and would recommend our property to others. We were surprised to hear that you experienced noisy neighbours as this is the first time anyone has commented on this matter. Pottery Mews is a small development of 8 houses set on the ground of a what once was a Torbay Pottery in the older part of the village and as such is residential with neighbours going about their daily business. We provide a number for all our guests and had you told us of this problem we would have been happy to mention this to our neighbour, who as you say are very friendly.

Very pleasant comfortable house.

We were made most welcome and Dale and Kerry were very helpful when we had to contact them. The house had everything we needed.

Our only suggestion might be to change the light bulbs to LED which are brighter and cheaper to run.

Lovely cottage

  • 4 of 5

We spent the weekend at 3 Pottery Mews while visiting family in the local area. It made an ideal base being well maintained and very clean. Beds were extremely comfortable so no problems sleeping and a welcome pack was waiting for us upon our arrival, which was greatly appreciated. Only one small issue was with the shower, as the hot water tended to run very hot and if someone used the cold tap in the kitchen the pressure would drop which was a bit painful if you were in the shower! Thank you to Kerry for her prompt replies and detailed information and of course for letting us stay at her lovely cottage. We hope to return soon.

Note: Marldon is a great little village and we can highly recommend the Chuch House Inn, fantastic food and service which is only a short walk from the cottage.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us in Marldon. I am sorry to hear that you had a problem with the water, as with many homes it is worked on water pressure so turning on the cold tap would affect the pressure and hence the heat of the shower. I will of course leave a note beside the kitchen tap to remind guests of this fact and avoid any such issues in the future.

Very comfortable, homely, everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely property. We arrived to a lovely welcome pack full of goodies. The cottage and also the surrounding area is very dog friendly. A great park just across from the cottage where we also enjoyed many an hour playing basketball. One pub within walking distance, the Church Inn, which was expensive, even for drinks. But loads of eating places and places to visit within a short drive. The cottage has a lovely patio which is a suntrap. We were lucky with the weather and spent every late afternoon sat on the patio with a drink. Overall, very comfortable, very clean, very welcoming. Can't ask for more.

Very nice house in a very nice location.

  • 4 of 5

Lovely little house in a very nice village and in striking distance of the coastal resorts and the moors. The owners were kind enough to leave a nice welcome pack with some essentials, a nice touch, thank you. If we were to be ultra picky then it would be that the main double bed was small and a bit uncomfortable and it was difficult to get a full good nights sleep, but I wouldn't put anyone off based on this as this is a personal opinion. I would highly recommend anyone to stay in this property. There is a very nice dog friendly pub within in a 5 minute walk serving great beer and lovely food. Thank you for having us!

Owner's Response: Hi Gary, Thank you for your comments, we were disappointed to hear that you found the bed uncomfortable as we have made every effort to put top quality furniture in the property to make our guests stay as enjoyable as possible. The bed is a brand new standard 4' 6" double bed with a new good quality pocket sprung mattress and we haven't had any previous issues or complaints from guests that it isn't comfortable. As you say in your review it is a personal opinion and it can be difficult with beds to please everyone. I am glad that apart from this issue you enjoyed your stay with us. Kind Regards Kerry & Dale

excellent accommodation in perfect Devon village

  • 5 of 5

The house was bigger than expected and tastefully decorated throughout. It was also very clean and well equipped. The welcome pack on arrival with treats for the dogs was very welcome. Excellent location for dog walking with a large park opposite behind the trees, reached from some steps a short walk down the road. There's also a large green near the Church House Inn. This pub has a large pretty garden at the back. It also has a restaurant though we didn't eat there. The Olde Smokey House at the top end of the village near the petrol station has a good menu and the carvery was excellent. The village has a couple of handy shops including a post office and there's a Spar shop at the petrol station. Situated just off the ring road for Paignton/Torquay getting around was easy though the road to Brixham was very busy at times. The information pack at the house included a list of dog friendly beaches nearby. The house has families living either side but not noisy. Would definitely stay again.
