About this property

Charming former coach house in an idyllic woodland garden, 300m from St Kew Inn.

A very comfortable 2 bedroom cottage, the front bedroom with a 5ft double bed, the rear with twin 3ft singles. It has a stylish bathroom with underfloor heating, and a bath with shower over. The living/dining room has dining table and chairs in addition to a large leather sofa, underfloor heating and Smart TV. French doors lead from here onto a large south-facing granite paved terrace with teak benches and slate table. The well furnished kitchen has an electric Aga, which keeps it comfortably cosy throughout the year, a breakfast bar with stools, a dishwasher, and plenty of storage space. The property also has a washer/dryer and free high speed wi-fi broadband.

Super garden; extensive woodland, streams, ponds, lawns and shrubberies, 3 acres in extent. Tables and chairs provide sitting areas in various parts of the garden. The property lies at the end of a 100m drive which provides privacy and security.

The St Kew Inn, just 300m away, is a truly atmospheric traditional country pub and provides excellent food.

The dramatic North Cornwall coast is easily accessible; Port Isaac just 3 miles, Polzeath and Rock just 6 miles. Many miles of National Trust coastline provide spectacular walking. Great surfing beaches, sheltered coves, and the stunning Camel estuary offer something for everyone: swimming, surfing, sailboarding, kitesurfing, sailing, kayaking, rowing, boat trips, etc.

There is great walking on Bodmin Moor, extensive cycle trails (Cardinham woods, Lanhydrock and the very popular Camel Trail) and many and various visitor attractions. The Eden project is a must and only 18 miles away.

Cottage with character
Excellent location to explore the south west of Cornwall. Homely cottage. Just right for 2 people. Lovely to have the St Kew Inn just 300 yards away. Very popular so bookings essential. Do try the moules. They were delicious.

Cosy little cottage
We had a lovely stay at this cottage. Very clean and the perfect size for me and my husband and our 5yr old. Perfect base to explore what Cornwall has to offer. This was a very last minute booking so we're lucky to have found it! Very happy with our stay.

Beautiful cottage and lovely hosts
The cottage is particularly well appointed and comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the private, quiet location whilst being close to the coastal villages and walks. Tom and Sandy are excellent hosts and lovely people. A delightful stay.

About the host

Hosted by Coachmans Cottage

Host profile image
Tom and Sandy Chadwick have lived in St Kew since 1979, initially running six holiday apartments in a big old house. When our children left home we downsized, converting our stables into a comfortable home, “Reskesen”, and the adjacent coach house into a home for Tom’s mother. This cottage we now let as “Coachmans Cottage”, and, yes, it really was a coach house!

Why they chose this property

St Kew is a very small, peaceful village set in rural North Cornwall, close to some spectacular stretches of the north coast, whilst being just far enough inland to escape the busy coastal scene. Coachman’s Cottage was originally a coach house, now converted into a charming and cosy two bedroom cottage at the end of a 100 metre private drive, surrounded by three acres of woodland gardens. This idyllic rural setting in a sheltered valley location offers peace and quiet, and visitors are encouraged to use and enjoy the garden, whether for breakfast, a barbecue or just drinks on the terrace. Some of our magnificent trees are hundreds of years old, and the huge variety of plants, the tumbling streams, exuberant shrubberies and the sweeping lawns create a wonderful environment for wildlife: from barn owls to goldcrests, newts to otters, several species of bats, an occasional deer, and a dazzling display from damselflies and butterflies. This is a very special place.

The 15th century St Kew Inn, serving Cornish ales and great food is about 300 metres away. Just 3 miles away is the little harbour village of Port Isaac (better known as Port Wenn to Doc Martin fans); within six miles are the popular beaches of Polzeath, Rock, and Daymer Bay, variously popular for surfing, sailing and other water sports. Padstow is just the other side of the estuary, and a few miles up the coast are the historic villages of Boscastle and Tintagel. Wadebridge is a pleasant little town just 5 miles away which provides all the usual amenities; also easy access to the Camel Trail, great for miles of off-road walking and cycling (bike hire available), much of it alongside the fabulous Camel Estuary. There are a number of golf courses. in the area, including the St Kew course just one mile away, and the spectacular St Enodoc just six miles away.

What makes this property unique

The location of this property is fantastic:
A peaceful and beautiful valley setting, totally secluded yet not isolated.
Close to the stunning north coast yet sufficiently far inland to escape the crowds and the sometimes wild weather.
Only 300m from the St Kew Inn, a great pub providing excellent meals.
A huge garden with streams, extensive lawns, ponds and woodlands, wonderful for kids and other wildlife.
