About the property

Charming, cosy, 2 bedroom cottage in quiet village 3 miles from north coast.

A comfortable 2 bedroom cottage, the front bedroom with a 5ft double bed, the rear with twin 3ft singles. It has a stylish bathroom with underfloor heating, and a bath with shower over. The living/dining room has dining table and chairs in addition to large leather sofa, underfloor heating and satellite TV. French doors lead from here onto a large south-facing slate terrace with teak benches and slate table. The well furnished kitchen has an electric Aga, which keeps it comfortably cosy throughout the year, a breakfast bar with stools, a dishwasher, and plenty of storage space. The property also has a washer/dryer and unlimited high speed wi-fi broadband.

A link to a Google Photos album is provided at the foot of the 'facilities' page. This provides numerous photos of the property and environs as well as a collage showing some entries from our visitors book.

Super garden; extensive woodland, streams, ponds, lawns and shrubberies, 3 acres in extent. Tables and chairs provide sitting areas in various parts of the garden. The property lies at the end of a 100m drive which provides privacy and security.

The St Kew Inn, just 300m away, is a truly atmospheric traditional country pub and provides excellent food.

The dramatic North Cornwall coast is easily accessible; Port Isaac just 3 miles, Polzeath and Rock just 6 miles. Many miles of National Trust coastline provide spectacular walking. Great surfing beaches, shelters coves, and the beautiful Camel estuary offer something for everyone; swimming, surfing, sailboarding, kitesurfing, sailing, kayaking, rowing, boat trips, etc.

Inland there is great walking on Bodmin Moor, and many and various visitor attractions. The Eden project is a must, and is only 20 minutes drive away.

About Coachmans Cottage

Tom and Sandy Chadwick have lived in St Kew since 1979, initially running six holiday apartments in a big old house. When our children left home we downsized, converting our stables into a comfortable home, “Reskesen”, and the adjacent coach house into a home for Tom’s mother. This cottage we now let as “Coachmans Cottage”, and, yes, it really was a coach house!

Why Coachmans Cottage chose Saint Kew

St Kew is a very small, peaceful village set in rural North Cornwall, close to some spectacular stretches of the north coast, whilst being just far enough inland to escape the busy coastal scene. Coachman’s Cottage was originally a coach house, now converted into a charming and cosy two bedroom cottage at the end of a 100 metre private drive, surrounded by three acres of woodland gardens. This idyllic rural setting in a sheltered valley location offers peace and quiet, and visitors are encouraged to use and enjoy the garden, whether for breakfast, a barbecue or just drinks on the terrace. Some of our magnificent trees are hundreds of years old, and the huge variety of plants, the tumbling streams, exuberant shrubberies and the sweeping lawns create a wonderful environment for wildlife: from barn owls to goldcrests, newts to otters, several species of bats, an occasional deer, and a dazzling display from damselflies and butterflies. This is a very special place.

The 15th century St Kew Inn, serving Cornish ales and great food is about 300 metres away. Just 3 miles away is the little harbour village of Port Isaac (better known as Port Wenn to Doc Martin fans); within six miles are the popular beaches of Polzeath, Rock, and Daymer Bay, variously popular for surfing, sailing and other water sports. Padstow is just the other side of the estuary, and a few miles up the coast are the historic villages of Boscastle and Tintagel. Wadebridge is a pleasant little town just 5 miles away which provides all the usual amenities; also easy access to the Camel Trail, great for miles of off-road walking and cycling (bike hire available), much of it alongside the fabulous Camel Estuary. There are a number of golf courses in the area, including the St Kew course just one mile away, and the spectacular St Enodoc just six miles away.

What makes this cottage unique

The location of this property is fantastic:

A peaceful and beautiful valley setting, totally secluded yet not isolated.

Close to the stunning north coast yet sufficiently far inland to escape the crowds and the sometimes wild weather.

Only 300m from the St Kew Inn, a great pub providing excellent meals.

A huge garden with streams, extensive lawns, ponds and woodlands, wonderful for kids and other wildlife.

A WONDERFUL LITTLE GEM NOT TO BE MISSED

  • 5 of 5

My husband and i spent two weeks at this beautiful cottage in september 2017.

Although the weather was quite wet it did not matter, as being at the cottage was as peaceful and tranquil and warm and cosy and uber comfortable !!!! The owners have thought about everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The decor is lovely the bedding beautiful the bed lovely.... if i seem over the top it is well deserved, the aga in the kitchen is wonderful to cook with and my husband did all of the cooking!!!

There is home made shortbread waiting for you when you arrive and milk for your tea....

Thank you Sandy and Tom for a lovely home away from home

See you next year Laurna and Alan Thornton xx

Lovely property and warm welcome

Coachman's Cottage had everything we could have wished for, for a comfortable week of self catering. The owners were welcoming and friendly and I would recommend the property wholeheartedly to anyone wishing to stay in the area.

Quiet and relaxed location in lovely garden

  • 5 of 5

Excellently presented and well equipped cottage in beautiful surroundings. Great village pub. Only suggestion is to provide more pillows which are softer and hollow fibre. We really enjoyed our stay and loved the shortbread. We will definitely return in future for a second stay.

Beautiful cottage stunning gardens

  • 5 of 5

Brilliant cottage very well equipped with beautiful gardens. All the furniture and fittings of good quality, lovely bedding. Some cottages we have stayed in have had cheap linens and towels but not Tom and Sandy they were great hosts even providing a very welcome plate of shortbread and milk to make a cup of tea on arrival. Very kind and friendly they made us feel right at home, thank you.

The Arga was interesting and toasting bread was fun but must admit didn't do any other cooking - well we were on holiday!

The local pub has a great atmosphere serving good and plentiful food.

Port Isaac (Doc Martin country), Wadebridge, Bude and Padstowe were just some of the places we went to. Padstowe for Rick Stein fish and chip restaurant not to be missed as is Port Isaac for cream tea.

We can honestly say this is the best cottage we have stayed in.

St Kew occupies an unspoilt rural situation yet is only one mile from the A39 and only 5 miles from the amenities of Wadebridge. Only 4 miles from the dramatic north coast, much of which is National Trust. Padstow, Rock, Polzeath, Port Isaac, Boscastle, Tintagel, all are within easy reach, and provide something for everyone. The wild expanses of Bodmin Moor, and the woodland walks and cycle trails of the river Camel and Cardinham woods provide inland alternatives. Fowey on the south coast and the world class Eden project are just over 20 miles away. There are also plenty of stately homes, castles, and stunning gardens to see, throughout Cornwall, some privately owned and others belonging to the National Trust and English Heritage.

To find the property, the site is accurately marked on the Googlemap above; it should be noted however that the gateway to the drive is located at a point 150 metres south of here at the junction of the lanes. If you are using Satnav, the postcode PL30 3HB will take you to the St Kew Inn, 200 metres west of our gateway.
