A prestigious penthouse in the city centre, set in a unique location in front of the Ursino Castle (Castello Ursino): the emblematic monument of culture of the city of Catania built by Frederick II of Swabia and dating back to the thirteenth century. The building as a whole has been recently restored and exudes great tranquility and privacy. The privileged position of this property within the historic centre of Catania, in close proximity to the city’s vibrant night life, makes your stay both comfortable, stylish, convenient and an ideal base from which to explore the prime attractions on the eastern side of Sicily. Even without a car (the bus station is 5 minutes walk away) you can visit Siracusa, Ragusa, Noto, Marzamemi, Vendicari nature reserve, Piazza Armerina, Pantalica, Taormina, Agrigento, Messina and Acireale as well as Palermo directly.

The apartment is just a short walk from almost all Catania’s main tourist attractions including the Roman amphitheatre, yarrow spas, thermal baths, the Benedictine monastery, Piazza Duomo (the main square) and the Cathedral; not to mention the famous fish and fresh food market, Via Etna, Bellini Park, Via Crociferi, the Amenano River, the Gamamzita well, Bellini Theatre and much more. Integral to the city’s buzzing nightlife, you are also only moments away from one of the gastronomic centres of the city.

A short ride on public transport (or car) will take you to either a sandy (south) or volcanic stoney beach (north) within a few minutes. Mount Etna is accessible within about 40 minutes by car or bus (departing from the central bus station).

The house has been renovated by the oner – an architect by profession – in a contemporary style, with attention to the choice of materials and decorative details to preserve the tradition and the historical nature of the site and the building. All the furniture is of superior design with some original pieces from the designer. Located on the second floor of a building dating back to the 1900s, this apartment is composed of two levels: the first a living area with a large open plan lounge with relaxation area with full HD projector and surround sound system (Sky TV and Netflix movies are viewable) and a dining area for six people. On the same level, there is an open entrance area with direct views to the terrace and castle, a large kitchen and bathroom. The garden terrace, viewable from the entire space, is equipped with a solid oak table and benches/chairs providing the perfect ambience for relaxing dinners with wine or a typical breakfast sipping coffee and sampling Catania’s excellent “granita” and brioche. The backdrop of the medieval castle creates the optimal setting.

Ascending the freestanding staircase takes you to the upper level of the apartment comprised of two large double bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms (both with a rain showers) and laundry area. The master bedroom is directly connected to the upper terrace garden with private sundeck, outdoor shower, an array of beautiful flowers and plants and a magnificent 360 degree view of the cityscape and Etna volcano.

The apartment is equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay, including fiberoptic broadband and free WIFI.

It is only a 10-minute drive or bus ride from the airport, a 15 minute walk from the train station and a 5 minute walk from Via Etna, the main shopping street. A 5 minute taxi ride takes you to the bus terminal for Taormina (40 min north), that is also accessible by train, and the city of Siracusa and Ortigia (30 min south) and as well as other picturesque locations on the island.
