The details

This is a traditional Norfolk cottage with thatch and flint walls dating back 300 years. Renovated by the owners in 2015 and now providing an excellent holiday cottage in this conservation area of the coastal village of Bacton, North Norfolk.

The accommodation is as follows

Sitting room with seating for 5 with large comfortable 3 seater sofa and 2 fireside chairs. Traditional fireplace with electric flickering 'wood burner' fire adds extra warmth if needed. Cupboards containing traditional board games and a TV/DVD player is provided. The sofa converts into a comfortable double bed.

Well equipped oak fitted kitchen with fridge, cooker/hob, microwave, toaster, kettle etc. Cutlery, crockery for 6 and a full range of cooking utensils and items are provided, Pine dresser and round dining table and 4 chairs + 2 chairs upstairs if needed.

Kitchen leads to lobby to rear garden. Lovely patio area with table and chairs for breakfast catching the morning sun. Beyond the patio is a long garden with path and lawn bordered with shrubs/flowers. The sun shines in the garden most of the day but shade is provided by a large apple tree. Sun loungers and table and seats provided in the outside store along with an extra fridge freezer.

The ground floor family sized bathroom is off the sitting room with a low level WC, hand basin, panelled bath with shower and screen, heater, large airing cupboard with water cylinder and washing machine.

The bedrooms are up the traditional cottage stairs behind a door in the corner of the sitting room. The wooden stairs are quite steep and narrow. The single bedroom is at the landing at the top of the stairs fitted with wooden rail and stair gate. There is a single pine framed and room for a folding bed, which can be provided for an extra guest.

The main double bedroom is off the single bedroom with a comfortable pine framed bed and cupboard for storage. Window overlooks the front garden.

The enclosed garden at the front of the property is perfect for sitting on the bench, watching the world go by and catching the evening sun.

We are happy for your pets to stay too and enjoy the cottage with their owners.

Parking There is no parking immediately outside the cottage but roadside parking is available 2 minutes away further down Keswick Road and in Priory Close opposite.

We are very proud of our holiday home and want you to enjoy your stay but would advise that it is an old cottage with wooden floors, uneven walls and surfaces. Some of the latch and brace cottage doors are quite low and you will need to take care not to bump your head. The stairs are quite narrow and steep and the elderly or very young would need to take care using these.

We have lived and raised our family in Norfolk for the last 30 years. We purchased the cottage in Bacton in 2014 when I was made redundant and we wanted to buy a seaside cottage for holidays for our family and friends. I knew Bacton from my childhood holidays and knew it was a quiet unspoilt part of the Norfolk coast with lovely sandy beaches.

We are very pleased that our guests and their pets enjoy staying at the cottage as much as we do.

Why Diana Dring chose Norwich

The cottage attracted us because it is a pretty traditional thatched and flint Norfolk cottage in a lovely sunny position near to the sea and local amenities. We love the beach, the dog walking, the pubs and the fish and chips shops are still the best in the County!

There's plenty to see and do with the Norfolk Broads a few miles away, the seaside towns of Cromer and Great Yarmouth offer a variety of entertainment and Norwich is a short drive away.

The travel cot was great, thank you so much for providing that, it definitely made a huge difference as saved us so much space in the car. And the baby slept very well in it!!   • The ground floor bathroom is part tiled and has a matching white suite comprising a low level toilet, hand basin, paneled bath with shower and screen over. A large airing cupboard contains the water cylinder, and hanging clothes dryer. There is a heated towel rail and an obscured glass window opens to the front garden. Bath towels and linen provided. A washing machine has been installed.

  • The main bedroom has a double bed with a pine base and comfortable medium/firm mattress with cupboards and bedside lights on either side. There is a low level window which overlooks the front garden. Mirror and hairdryer provided. Both bedrooms has exposed beams and the walls partly slope into the roof. There are exposed wooden floorboards with bedside rugs for your comfort. There is a comfortable sofa bed/futon in the sitting room which sleeps an additional 2 if required.

Charming pet friendly character cottage

Diana made booking the cottage extremely easy and straightforward. When we arrived I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was equipped, from teaspoons to towels! There was everything in the kitchen we needed. The garden at the back is lovely to sit in when the sun is going down too. The bedroom is very cosy and the bed extremely comfortable. We found a little shop along the beach that sells most everything you could need which saves a trip to town. We had a lovely time and will certainly be going back in the future.

Great little cottage

Comfortable Homely Cottage

Cottage is warm and welcoming, only two minute walk to lovely beach and pub with excellent service and good food. Garden is enclosed and safe for dogs. Stairs are a little steep but ok once you get used to them. We enjoyed our stay here and would book again if returning to the area, the cottage is very good value for money.

Lovely sandy beach a short walk from the cottage with the coastal path alongside.

Two excellent Fish and chip shops, just along the path in Walcott and in the village

Good food and evening entertainment at the local Poachers Pocket pub.

Plenty of good walks: along the beach to Mundesley or Happisburgh (both about 3 miles) or a countryside walk on the Paston Way or Bacton Woods, about 3 miles away.

The cottage is in a conservation area and surrounded by other pretty flint cottages and the remains of the Bromholm Abbey, a short walk way.

Places to visit;

Museum of the Broads and Tourist Information Centre at Stalham.

East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens, 32 acres of superb gardens.

The impressive red and white lighthouse at Happisburgh and the nearby Hill House Inn, where you will find a warm welcome and good food.

Lovely old market town of North Walsham

Wroxham- Capital of the Broads and boating centre (13 miles)

Norwich, the county's capital city is well worth a visit, well known as an historic centre with its castle and cathedrals and a lively night life. (20 miles)

Cromer, a lovely seaside town about 12 miles away, has a splendid pier and beaches. There are shows at the end of pier throughout the year. The pier is great for crabbing and No 1 Fish and Chip shop, high above the pier is well worth a visit.

Great Yarmouth, about 23 miles down the coast is a popular seaside resort with lots of attractions and entertainment including Pleasurewood Hills, hourse/dog racing, casino, sealife centre, pier and brightly illuminated seafront.
