Beautiful and spacious Gite!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing hosts - they could not have been more accommodating.

We had a bbq, pool, access to bikes and table tennis table - it was perfect for our group weekend away.

Close to a local boulangerie, supermarket and swimming lake with watersports.

Would 100% recommend.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

We had a superb week here in June 2017. We have 3 young kids who loved all the facilities - pool (safely enclosed), table tennis, bikes, swingball and plenty of room in the garden to play. The grounds are meticulously maintained. The property itself is in excellent order, spacious, and with all the facilities you might need. There's a large ensuite bedroom downstairs which is great for friends/relatives who are not so mobile.

Location wise, its very handy for a trip into Bordeaux (about 45 mins), St Emillion (40 mins) and great beaches at Lacanau (1hr 20mins). Theres plenty of vinyards in the surrounding area including a great one 10 mins down the road (Chateau de la Grave).

The hosts Patrick and Sarah live nearby, are very welcoming and more than happy to assist with advice on local restaurants, things to do etc.

Perfect place in france

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 2 week stay in Merlot gite with our 2 children (5 and 8) and had such a fabulous time we have booked to go back again next summer! The children had a brilliant time in the pool (perfect for little ones with the big steps into the pool) and they loved feeding the donkeys. There are plenty of bikes for the children which our 8 year old loved as lots of flat space for her to ride around on. Sarah and Patrick are fantastic hosts and always on hand for any queries and Patrick was kind enough to send us a couple of deliveries of fresh vegetables from his garden! The restaurant in nearby Pugnac is well worth a visit. Merlot is really spacious and kitchen well stocked with cutlery, crockery etc. We enjoyed some delicious local wine from the nearby Chateau and cant wait to return next year!

The gites are surrounded by beautifully manicured vineyards - and the area’s primary industry is "viticulture" (wine making). The local vineyard owner will be delighted to show you how the wine is made and - the best bit - offer you the chance to taste it!

Local facilities are only a 2 minute drive away at Pugnac (or a leisurely 25 min stroll) or take one of the bikes - Super market, wonderful cheap bistro, two boulangeries for those all important croissants and crusty baguette, wine co-operative, pharmacy, cold meat, butcher, hairdresser, village bar

The local Bastille town of Bourg-sur-Gironde is five minutes away. Built on a rocky outcrop this fortified village overlooks the picturesque Gironde estuary. As you explore the village, at every turn you’ll find impressive buildings with beautiful architectural features. There is a lively little market every Sunday morning. It also has a number of excellent restaurants and cafés.

The town of Blaye is 10 minutes away with it impressive Citadel an UNESCO World Heritage site built in the 17th century, Louis XIV ordered Vauban to strengthen the existing fortifications at the Citadel of Blaye to protect the city of Bordeaux.

You will also find also a number of excellent restaurants and cafés. Throughout the year, there are fêtes and events to celebrate everything imaginable, such as show-jumping, jazz, salt, flowers, onions, garlic, cheese and asparagus! There are markets on Wednesday and Saturday and more restaurants and cafes.

As you drive alongside the Gironde river, look out for the Roman villa and troglodyte settlement at Plassac. Once at Blaye, the port has a car ferry which crosses the estuary to the forest and beaches of Les Landes.

The centre of Blaye is dominated by a magnificent citadel and the hillside fortress stands guard over the town and the river. Blaye has a large market each Wednesday and Saturday where you can sample and buy many of the local delicacies.

The local towns and villages often host "brocantes" (antique fairs) and "vide-greniers" (car boot sales). It’s great fun rummaging around the stalls for authentic French bargains - or you could just enjoy a coffee and watch everyone else hunting for something special.
