About the property

A beautifully refurbished cottage with direct sea views, stunning location

An Dyji, 2 Seaview Cottages in Portmellon has undergone a unique transformation turning it into a stunning holiday home just perfect for couples. Situated directly by the sea in the quiet cove of Portmellon this bijou cottage has everything you could need for a relaxing getaway. Superbly modernised with a fantastic power shower and fully equipped kitchen plus comfy lounge. 'Upside down' accommodation maximises the sea views. This tiny cottage is a real gem in the most beautiful location.

Portmellon is a great base for exploring cornwall being right on the coastal path and within easy driving distance of many of the county's best attractions. Portmellon itself is a quiet cove with a tidal beach and one pub. Nearby is the fishing village of Mevagissey which offers a wealth of places to eat and drink and shop.

The cottage has recently undergone a full modernisation, restoring the original stone walls and turning the accommodation "upside down" to make the most of the views. Downstairs is a compact bedroom with a double bed and a beautiful walk in wet room shower. Fully tiled flooring with underfloor heating. Double doors to the bathroom , one each side of the bed, mean that despite its compact bedroom size there is easy access to the bathroom - no climbing over each other !

A stunning oak and steel staircase leads to the upper level lounge and kitchen dining. Further restored stone walls showcases the buildings history complimented by a modern style glass banister. The lounge and kitchen are compact but very comfortable and the fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to self cater. Oak flooring with underfloor heating ensures you will be warm and cosy.

The ceiling height is low as you would expect in an old fishermans cottage and the house is compact - think small hotel suite with the added benefit of modern cooking facilities.

Outside the views are amazing and there is a high bistro table and chairs to sit at and enjoy the views . The front patio area is a shared walkway to the other cottages ion the terrace but you have your own little table and space to enjoy the sea view.

An Dyji is a cornish name meaning "Tiny Cottage" which is very appropriate, but whilst An Dyji is indeed small, we think it is perfectly for two people wanting a luxury bolt hole .

About Amanda Barclay

I live in Surrey with my husband and teenage son, but am in love with Cornwall and especially Portmellon. I holidayed in Portmellon cove all though my childhood years and am now fortunate enough to own this stunning little cottage. In the early months of 2016 we have poured much love, time and funds into restoring An Dyji into the comfortable place it is today

I promise to be a responsible owner and I am always at the end of the phone for anyone staying at our home. I am happy to offer advice and tips so that you can really get the most from your holiday.

Why Amanda Barclay chose Mevagissey

Perfect getaway for two in the most amazing location, you simply can't get closer to the sea unless you're in it !

It may be small but it is perfectly formed and has everything you could need for an amazing holiday. Just read a few of our reviews - I assure you they are all genuine - to find out what other people think of it.

What makes this cottage unique

Compact and cosy, great location, well located for exploring Cornwall or ...just sit back and watch the tide go in and out and relax :)

Beautiful little home right on the sea!

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful little home perfect for a weekend break. The location is brilliant, with Mevagissey just a small walk away. We really enjoyed a relaxing weekend in Cornwall in this property, even if it was freezing outside!

The parking is a short walk down the road, in a car park with plenty of spaces!

We took our v.small dog, which was fine but if you wanted to take a bigger dog it might not be the best property as there isn't much room between the front door and the bed - wasn't a problem for us with a mini sausage dog!

Overall a lovely place to stay and fall asleep listening to the waves - thank you!

Lovely location for a quiet few days in late January

  • 5 of 5

Walks along the coastal path and visits to deserted beaches were the highlights of our stay, together with the short walk to the facilities of Mevagissey.

It's clearly no secret that this accommodation is small but the reality is, that creates issues.

  • 3 of 5

Ok, so we know it's 'small' Accepting that and living with it for a week brings challenges if not real problems.

Two average sized adults trying to do much in this space is at times abproblem. The bottom step is across the end of the bed and without thinking about it could easily be tripped over.

There is minimal space to hang any clothes and there are only two small cabinets on either side of the bed.One of which is so close to the bed that the doors don't open all the way out.

Even the most organised of couples would surely be irritated by how cramped this space is.

Outside , the view is spectacular but you are sharing with three neighbouring couples.

There is no denying that the fit out is of a high quality which is a redeeming factor and the wet room is excellent. Walk in to Mevagissey is pleasant and the walk to Gorran Haven via Chapel Point is spectacular.

Value for money, too expensive in my opinion. There was peeling paint , mould and pieces of broken glass left on the draining board when we arrived . Extremely strong smell of bleach which in time appeared to possibly be covering drainage smells.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that you didn't enjoy our accommodation. I think that the description and photographs clearly show the size off the house and there has been no attempt to cover up the "bijou" nature of our home. Having had a full busy season we are indeed due some redecorations which are planned for this autumn. Its a shame that some minor damage to the paint has spoiled your enjoyment. The outside area is not described as private sole use and most people enjoy a little social interaction with fellow holiday makers whilst enjoying the view outside. I assume we won't get the opportunity to welcome you again but we hope that you will visit Cornwall again and enjoy our lovely county from another location. with kind regards Amanda & Wil
