Overview

About the property

This delightfully romantic cottage sits in beautiful, interesting, garden

This unique and charming cottage with amazing garden often described as magical or paradise, is located within the grounds of the ancient Castle of Koroni and available for rent all year round, situated in the southern Peloponnese region of Greece. Suitable for a couple (though very small children can be accommodated), this is an ideal romantic getaway. Close and within a short walking distance of both town and spectacular, sandy beaches.

A large, beautifully planted, interesting garden wraps around the property, giving several terraces for outdoor dining etc.

The property comprises 1 large studio/living room with double bed, hand made furniture, air/con unit, large wardrobe and a fast broadband wifi connection. There is a dvd player with screen and a stereo system.

Leading off this room is a shower room, beautifully tiled with w.c. and hand basin, also leading off is a small fitted kitchen with all amenities, granite worktop and sink, cooker, dishes, pots and pans etc. step through the kitchen door and there is an outdoor kitchen, covered, with large fridge/freezer and double sink unit. A gate from the outside kitchen leads onto one of the dining terraces, surrounded by beautiful, fragrant flowers. Here you will find an outdoor shower and a washing machine in its own housing.

Wander round the paths of the garden and there are three other terraces for sitting, two of them shaded by olive trees and a grape vine.

The property sits in the grounds of the Ancient Castle and in the garden there are the original Castle walls. The Castle dates back to the 1200's in its present form though it sits on the site of a much older Mycenaean site.

Also within the grounds of the Castle can be found an old Monastery, these days inhabited by about 6 nuns who are very happy to show you around their lovely grounds with its scented gardens, they like to show you their handicrafts in their little gift shop and to offer you Turkish(Greek) Delight!

The cottage is detached and gated at the front, there are 6 other dwellings in the Castle grounds, also a cemetery and 2 churches.

A short walk down from the Castle, which sits above the town of Koroni takes you to the beautiful, sandy, 2.5 km long Zaga Beach, wonderful swimming, never crowded and home to nesting Loggerhead Turtles in the Summer months.

Head down from the cottage and a short 5 minute walk takes you into the charming, terraced town of Koroni, with all its amenities. The town is not dependent on tourism and is thriving all year long. There are two banks with ATM machines, 3 bakers, a fresh fish shop (fish can also be bought on the harbourside), a supermarket (a large one is on the road out of town), pharmacy, gift shops and many restaurants and coffee bars along the lovely harbourside.

There is a car rental place, taxis and buses too.

The town has several doctors, and a dentist.

If you are looking for a holiday off the Tourist Track then Koroni is the place, after August the beaches empty and you have them practically to yourself.....

In the Summer Months May - October Koroni hosts a wonderful Music Festival with up to two concerts a week, music from around the world to suit all tastes, tickets are easily affordable and available from a gift shop 'Aldebaran' in town.

About Jean (Jina) Moeser

I came to Greece in 2004 with my partner Nick, after a long love affair with the country.

We stumbled across this small property within the ancient grounds of Koroni Castle and immediately felt it was for us.

We are both very keen gardeners with definate artistic leanings and have developed over the years, both a stunning little house, full of handmade furniture and an exceptional garden which has proven to be very popular with guests.

We are both British, I was born in Hertfordshire and Nick in Harrow, so we are both North Londoners by birth though I have travelled quite a bit and spent a while in France and Portugal, where I worked.

We both have a yearning for the unusual and different and this property certainly lives up to that!

Jean (Jina) Moeser purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Jean (Jina) Moeser chose Koroni

It met our requirements, we always thought we would like a small house with a large garden, which it has.

We had not realized how beautiful this region of Greece is, so it was a pleasant suprise to arrive here and find a property for sale within the Castle grounds, a rare opportunity to buy a little piece of Greece's history.

What makes this cottage unique

The unique benefits of the property are that although part of the town, because of its location above Koroni, when one steps through the Ancient Venetian archway one is transported into another, peaceful world. The inside of the Castle has a wonderful atmosphere of calm and tranquility now, after a very turbulent past.

It is also just a 5 minute walk into town with its many Tavernas and Bars, shops, banks, supermarket, buses and car hire or 5 minutes down to small beach located from within the grounds of the Castle or 10-15 minutes down to the lovely, sandy Zaga beach, 2.5 kms of golden sand and home to nesting Loggerhead Turtles in the Summer months, excellent swimming in clear blue sea....

Guestbook comments from the owner

has been both a privilege and unalloyed pleasure to spend two weeks in Eden Cottage - one which, no doubt has taken great love and labour to plan and create.

A German lady in Koroni, when she found out where we were staying, exclaimed "It's a Jewel!" - something we have been repeating ad nauseam since.

From home comforts, quirky decoration and cleanliness inside, to the magnificent garden with artifacts, features and interest outside- the combination has been idyllic.

We have used the car a great deal less than we thought we would. Normally, we would use our accommodation as a 'base' - but this 'base' surpassed all our expectations and we loved spending our time here.

Thank you Jina and Nick for sharing your paradise with us.

A wonderful peaceful little Greek oasis.

All as lovely as we could have expected.

The garden was absolutely amazing really enjoyed spending the day just reading or listening to music there. Also lots of great beaches and interesting places to check out that weren’t too far away.

An idyllic getaway

  • 5 of 5

We have a wonderful holiday in Eden cottage with its beautiful beautiful garden. Its one of the best holiday cottages we have ever rented! Its location is absolutely perfect, in a calm and tranquil setting but a really easy walk to the town , restaurants and beach. We really enjoyed exploring Koroni Castle and wandering round its atmospheric ruins. The cottage itself was well equipped with great attention to detail- very pretty, we felt very much at home.

Lovely house with amazing garden

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Jina and Nick's lovely house. Set in the grounds of Koroni Castle, the house is a haven of peace and quiet. The design of the garden is excellent. Several sitting areas have been created, all with different views of the garden and surroundings. We had meals in the garden during the day, and sat and watched the stars at night.

The house is compact but has everything you need. Good wifi, great views and only a 5 minute walk (quite steep) to the town and harbour, where loads of good restaurants and interesting shops await. The town itself is a complete joy to visit, with good seafood and classic Greek cuisine in the tavernas.

We enjoyed our week in Koroni so much that we hope to visit again one day and would certainly stay at Jina's idyllic cottage again - definitely recommended!

Car: recommended

For people with a car there are amazing Ancient sites to explore in the Peloponnese..a 1-1.5 hr drive away is Ancient Messini, well worth a visit, there is also a museum and in the village above the site a very nice Taverna.

There are several Waterfalls to visit, the nearest being Polylimnio Falls, a collection of waterfalls, about a 1 hr. drive away from Koroni.

There is also the Lagoon and famous Voidakillia beach between Gialova and Romanos, approximately 1.5 hrs drive away, many wonderful sites along the way, the Oinous Islands that sit off the end of this region of Messina on the way to Finikounda, just past this town is Destino if you prefer swimming in a lovely pool surrounded by sun beds and bar. At Methoni and Pylos are two more Ancient Castles to explore, both within an hours drive away.
