THE AREA

Perched on the edge of stunning North Yorkshire, this perfectly preserved historic fishing and smuggling area of Saltburn is steeped in ancient history and maintains much of its original charm as a Victorian seaside town.

Its warm and welcoming residents are extremely proud of their heritage, from its oldest public house, The Ship Inn, dating back to the 1500’s to the stunning Saltburn Pier, recently restored to it’s former glory. The pier is the most northerly surviving British Pier and only remaining pleasure pier on the

North East coast.

THINGS TO DO

If you’re discovering the town for the first time, there are plenty of things to

see and do. Whether you’re looking for breath taking leisurely walks, taking advantage of the beaches or browsing around the local attractions,

Saltburn by the sea has it all.

Enjoy magnificent sweeping beaches at your leisure. Or, if you’re after a great surf, there are great breaks to suit all, from beginners to the more experienced on the north and south side of the old pier.

The upper and lower promenades are great for long leisurely walks looking out across the Saltburn coastline. The walk is part of the 36 mile Heritage coast, displaying dramatic headlands and climbing high above smugglers’ secret caves, then meandering south towards Whitby.

Stroll around the beautiful Saltburn Valley Gardens and Woodland Centre where you can appreciate the stunning Italian Garden flowerbeds and the ruins of the old corn mill. Jump aboard the miniature railway for a ride which runs from the sea front up through the Valley Gardens to the Italian Gardens. Whilst at the Woodland Centre, why not gain valuable information on the many local walks and check out the permanent orienteering course.

Ride the Saltburn Cliff Lift - the oldest water balanced cliff tramway running 120ft from the town on the upper promenade, down to the Pier on the lower promenade, lovingly restored and refurbished with amazing stained glass windows.

Pay a visit to The Ship Inn, dating back to the 1500’s, for a bite to eat and a drink. Or try one of the vast array of cafes, pubs and restaurants catering for every discerning palette, from light lunches and snacks to evening meals.

FURTHER AFIELD

If you prefer to venture further afield for day trips out, then Whitby is only a 45 minute drive away and Scarborough is 1 hour, 10 minutes. Or, if you fancy popping inland for a spot of shopping, you will find Middlesbrough just a 30 minute drive from Saltburn. Alternatively, Saltburn’s railway station will take you to your desired locations - check out the local train times and destinations.

THE EMERALD

The Emerald is The Coral’s sister apartment. Boasting an unrivalled sea view, The Emerald is more traditional in its décor, sleeps five people and also welcomes pets.

First holiday in Saltburn

  • 4 of 5

Ideal central location, the flat was even nicer than the photographs, well equipped and very clean. Having a bottle of fizz and some chocolates was a nice touch, thankyou Janet.

We were lucky with the weather but not so lucky with the cliff lift, it was only working on two of the days that we were there. Met Janet and Milo, couldn't ask for a better host.

Will definitely be coming back.

Beautiful holiday flat close to the sea

  • 5 of 5

The Coral is really lovely holiday flat, positioned in a quiet road close to the sea and town centre.

It is beautifully decorated and very comfortable.

With a double and single bedroom plus a sofa bed in the lounge, there is plenty of room for a family. It is well equipped with quality furnishings and utensils so you need bring nothing with you but your your personal things.

There are some great places to eat locally and lots of things to see and do in the area.

Saltburn is a really quaint ,unspoilt Victorian seaside town. This is our second stay in Saltburn and we love it!

Beautiful Coral

  • 5 of 5

Very clean and tidy. Perfect for sleeping up to 5 people... and a well-behaved dog! Set in a perfect location in a small seaside town and a few minutes walk from the lovely sandy beach and Saltburn's famous Cliff lift and Pier. The local supermarket is a short walk away, with useful large recycling bins based in the neighbouring car park. Lots of local places to visit: Redcar, Markse, Middlesborough, Whitby, Stokesley, Helmsley (town & castle), Great Ayton, North York Moors, Ormesby Hall, Kirkleatham Museum, Nunnington Hall, Rievaulx Terrace and Abbey, Roseberry Topping, Hutton-le-Hole and Gisborough Priory. Back in Saltburn there are lovely little shops, the massive sandy beach, the Pier and arcade, the promenade, the bandstand, Valley gardens. The list was endless....... always good to come back to a lovely 'home from home' environment at the end of a busy day sightseeing. We highly recommend 'The Coral'!

Comfortable and good-sized accommodation for our family of three plus dog to have an enjoyable stay. Close to the town and beach to access all we needed during the week. We really liked Saltburn on Sea.
