Dog friendly gite in Normandy countryside
Gite looked fine on arrival but once inside there was a cleanliness issue. Lots of dog hairs, Marks on kitchen unit doors, fly paper hanging over the dining table full of flies. Only used one side of the gite although the other side was better but we used the side that contained the kitchen and en suite facilities in the bedroom. Next to grazing cattle’s so didn’t open the windows due to the fly situation although this is normal in Normandy and fly papers have to be used but away from dining facilities, please. The gite itself is well equipped with everything you could possibly need and enough games to last a lifetime. Peaceful area. We left early as we didn’t feel comfortable and I didn’t go on holiday to clean up after other people and their animals. It’s hard for owners when they are not on site and have to rely on other people to look after their property. Would we return? Unfortunately not.

Quirky Holiday Home
The Dovecote is a lovely holiday house. It is very quiet and peaceful - just lots of cows! You are close to lots of attractions such as Mont St Michael, Bayeux, The Normandy beaches, St Lo., etc. There are lots of supermarkets to buy bread and cheese, so you can indulge in the great food!

Lovely Dovecote
Lovely property, lovely area. Was very nice having very inquisitive cows as neighbours! Enjoyed our stay very much as did the dogs!

Peace & quiet in the countryside yet close to local village & road links to all tourist destinations
Attractive, well maintained property in secluded grounds with lovely views onto neighbouring farm. Well kept and clean with all necessary facilities to make a home from home holiday. Good for exploring but also comfy enough to spend a day at home. Great location for a wide variety of activities and tourist visits including markets, beaches, gardens, places of historical interest, walking etc. We visited Honfleur, Bayeaux, Normandy beaches, Mont St Michel, St Malo, Carolles Beach, and Dinan to name a few. Owner's provided lots of useful advice and made helpful suggestions to ensure the holiday met our needs by prompt response to our questions. Local riverside walk was an excellent suggestion. Would recommend to families, couples, friends. Probably challenging to the disabled or infirm unless able to sleep on downstairs sofa bed as staircases steep or spiral. Although there are restaurants nearby we tended to go out for the day and eat before returning home or cook at home.

About the host

Liz and I fell in love with and purchased The Dovecote as a home from home in 2014 then spent 2 years renovating it. We spend a lot of time here ourselves but also head back to UK to see our family and feel we can share The Dovecote with others now.

Why they chose this property

You only have to look at this quirky building to see why we went for it. With it's thatched roof and circular dovecote, quirky staircases and meter thick stone walls, peaceful countryside and abundant wildlife. We feel totally at ease here every time we stay. With the historical ties to the UK the area has it all and the people could not be nicer even if your French is non existent like Tony's, he is trying to learn.
