About Tina Rowswell

Hi I am Tina - me and my family visited the lake district for the first time last year and fell head over heels in love with the place. After returning back to the normal rat race one morning we decided to take a risk and follow our hearts which was to buy this property. Our aim was to share the experience of getting away from it all for like minded people. We really hope you enjoy your stay at Joseph Cottage

Tina Rowswell purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Tina Rowswell chose Kendal

Historic Town of Kendal…

The bustling market town of Kendal, built in distinctive limestone, is a popular hub for shopping and culture in South Lakeland. Home to exciting festivals, a vibrant arts centre, fine museums and world renowned art gallery. Historically, ‘The Auld Grey Town’ was one of the most important woollen textile centres in the country, producing ‘Kendal Green’ and other ‘Kendal cottons’ – its numerous yards (Joseph cottage being part of Kendal’s heritage located in one of these historic yard) once filled with workshops processing cloth, leather and foodstuffs. Kendal was also a centre for shoe making, carpet and snuff manufacture, and synonymous with the production of the famous Kendal Mint Cake.

Lovely week at Joseph Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Myself, wife and 15 year old daughter stayed for a week at the end of August at Joseph Cottage. The ground floor apartment is ideally located in the centre of Kendal and Yard 44 is easy to find being near the bus station and next door to Majestic Wine Warehouse. The apartment itself is very tastefully decorated with two bedrooms with very comfy beds one with a pop up TV and the second with a wall mounted TV. There is a smart TV in the living room and a very good wifi connection. The modern kitchen is very spacious with everything you might need, built in fridge and freezer, oven and hob, microwave, toaster and kettle with lots of crockery and cutlery. There is also a washing machine, iron and ironing board and clothes airer. The bathroom is nice and modern and spacious.

The owner provides a car parking permit for the adjacent car park. The location is ideally located for exploring the Lake District. Even if you don't have a car you can purchase an explorer ticket from the adjacent bus station or on the bus where you can tour the lakes and hop on and off the bus.

Within a few minutes walk there are lots of restaurants and shops. Our favourites were Masons just around the corner which also has a fantastic beer garden/courtyard to the rear and further up the hill on the left the Gate of Kendal restaurant. There is the Westmorland shopping centre, Booths supermarket, Tesco minimart and a large Marks and Spencer's in Kendal. One thing we did discover, albeit after a few days, that rather than walking up the hill to the shops you can cross the road at the pedestrian crossing adjacent to the cottage and catch the lift in the multistorey car park next to the bus station to the 3rd floor and it brings you out in the shopping centre!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay in the lovely Joseph Cottage and look forward to staying there again in the future.

Modern clean stylish apartment..

  • 5 of 5

Good:

Clean confortable apartment only a short walk from the centre. A parking permit is provided that we were able to use in several towns around the lakes.

Bad:

The bedrooms are next to a busy road so don’t expect a lie in.

Compact and perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend at Joseph Cottage. Furnished to a high standard and very central base for exploring the lakes. Beautiful cottage and would highly recommend, the little extras made it for us, comfy beds and bedding, TV's in all rooms, netflix, good sized freezer. We were impressed and hope to return.

Lots of lovely restaurants and cafes/ bars to choose from. Paloma for fab cocktails. Slate very good for lunch and drinks.

Ideal base to drive out and see many of the delights of the lakes. Would certainly have no hesitation in recommending to family and friends. Fab apartment!

Lovely, cosy and inviting

  • 5 of 5

Modern decor, warm, cosy and inviting.

Perfect location, well equipped accomodation.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay in joseph cottage, the cottage is is cosy and very welcoming, with lovely modern decor. TV was great at the end of the bed so could chill out after days out walking. Cottage is very central to Kendal. We had a great time visiting various places we would recommend going to Tamhows, sawery, hawkshead, grassmere and wrynose pass was beautiful for scenery. I also would say to visitors to to go to the Orange Tree at Kirby Lonsdale - Steak night on Wednesday was gorgeous. We would definitely come back and stay if in this area again.

Good communications with owner made booking relatively simple.

Highly recommended
