A review received 2017 sums up the special features of Villa Roocolo

“The houses are surrounded by a beautiful old olive grove. There are two terraces overlooking the valley and a very nice infinity swimming pool. The view is breathtaking. I have been in this valley before but the view here beats everything. There is a small terrace in the back to catch the early morning sun. The large terraces in the front catch the sun from 10 am to sunset. For people like me who love to read in the shade : plenty of shade available under the surrounding trees. The olive groves around the houses are actually grassy meadows, ideal for children's play. In the woods on top of the hill behind the house lie the remains of a 13 th century castle. You have to drive up a steep access road from the valley floor to reach this house. The next and only other house is 100 m down. The road continues up the hill for another 2 km, winding through beautiful olive groves and forests, offering breathtaking views. Then the road changes into a hiking trail that joins the hiking trail that circumvent the valley. We were the first occupants in a newly developed property. We were two couples and stayed a week in May 2016. The property consist of two houses. The smaller one has one bedroom, with a king size bed, bathroom and a living space with kitchen. Tho other house has two bedrooms, one with king size bed and the other with two single beds. The house has two bathrooms. A dining room, sitting room and separate kitchen. It Being a new property I was amazed by the attention to detail that went into the fittings and decoration. To name a few which very often lack in other properties: - there are no street lights around, the garden and swimming pool has plenty of discrete lights to make walking in the dark safe - lots of power points all over the house to charge electronics - very well outfitted kitchens with very good stoves, large fridges, the kitchen in the larger house has a dishwasher - plenty of dishes, pans, bowls and other kitchen utensils to make holiday cooking practical ”

great family reunion in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Very warm and helpful welcome including fresh fruit, wine and very local olive oil... from the olive groves around the villa.

The house was in very good order with pretty much everything we needed - including good Wufi and, an Apple tv. The self contained and very cosy annex perfect for our daughter, son in law and new grandson,, The main house large seating and dining area for all 7 us, but most of our time was either by the lovely pool or the very very large terrace. Views here can never disappoint ( we even enjoyed watching out over an afternoon sudden rain shower).

around the house are olive groves, vineyards, fields of wheat, sunflowers- just perfect. going out to explore Castilion , cortona , pienza the wine area if montepulciano and chianti a real treat - having tried the produce for some years.

A good find for our family which we can recommend to friends without a doubt

Really stunning location with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

We chose this villa as it looked like being the perfect relaxing retreat for 6 friends to catch some late summer sun and enjoy the Tuscan autumnal food offerings. I was lucky enough to come out ahead of the rest and have two wonderful days at a nearby B&B. We had a lovely welcome from Terry at check-in and he had already provided me with all the salient points about the villa and the locality. The pictures didn't really do it justice, or were maybe taken at a different time of year - it really is a stunning location with beautiful views and it would be great to see it in summer when all the sunflowers are in the fields, but the autumn colours were spectacular. As there were 6 of us in the group, two couples and two singles, the accommodation was perfect. My husband and I stayed in the annex (as I made the booking, I got to choose), which is about 15m away from the main bedroom and has its own sitting room and French windows from the bedroom onto the gardens. It also has a small kitchen, but we didn't use this as we preferred to eat as a group with our friends. One couple had the large double room and the girls had the second with twin beds. Both were comfortable and clean, as was ours. We had breakfast on the patio off the small but functional kitchen of the main villa (got some supplies in one of the big local supermarkets, Conad). We ate out both nights of our stay but, had a relaxed lunch on the terrace one day (the weather was good enough to eat outside for lunch (and we just missed the sudden rain storm on Wednesday PM). If you like truffles and Porcini, its a great time of year to be in Tuscany (we ate loads of them). It would have been a little too chilly to eat outside in the evenings and we were too lazy, but there are some fabulous places near by (Terry recommended two great spots, one in Castiglion Fiorentino and another in nearby Cortona)! The earth moved for us on Wednesday evening, when there were two little shakes that definitely made the chairs and tables jump. We didn't have any kids with us but I could image it being quite safe for them to play an explore and the pool was a decent size, although too nippy for us to jump in at this time of year, but we did chill out beside it in the 24 degree sunshine. We all agreed that we would have to stay for longer next time.

A very enjoyable vacation, perfec for our extended

  • 5 of 5

our first impressions were that we had found something very special - and that remained the case until we packed up headed home. The villa , split between the main family building and the close by annex was in excellent condition (apparently it took many years to restore and, was completed only this spring). The 3 bedrooms very pleasant and the bathrooms clean and with most things you might need (a few more shelfs would have been better). The kitchen had everything including a big coffee pot and the added bonus of Apple TV gave us a choice of films on the few cloudy days.

The terrace has views which you can enjoy all day along with the well placed pool.

The owner or representative was helpful and gave us lots of local advice on where to eat , go etc.Although we did a lot of research, this local knowledge was great

The villa proved the perfect solution for us, and we are happy to recommend it both here and to our friends

First class! A wonderful place for our e tender fa

  • 5 of 5

The villa , fresh, ckean and was very much a special home to be used and enjoyed. From the magnificent terrace , the lovely pool, the natural setting and, yes - the views - the fields if sunflowers , vineyards, olive groves and, a majestic Tuscan hill town laid out in the distance . Simoly amazing.

The accomodation split between the large house with two comfy bright bedrooms , sitting room ( with an Apple TV!) modern kitchen and a smaller annex with large bedroom bathroom and sitting room / kitchenette - which was perfect for our parents to have their independence, but can see it as a great place for friends or perhaps older teenagers to use.

The welcome basket of fruit, wine and olive oil, was very sweet, and the warm greeting, helpful advice from terry, useful and helped our planning for tours and, a pick of local restaurants.

One small problem another umbrella would have helped on the vast terrace, but there are lots of naturally shady corners around, ( we were told a pergola cover was envisaged which will make the terrace 110% )

The road had a few bumps, but nothing much to concern us

We really enjoyed our time here , if the world was not so big, we would return next year!

Fantastic -

  • 5 of 5

This was a real leap of faith! We booked this based on a series of progress photos of the renovation - and, a promise all am would be ready by our arrival. Well, it was - and, with the exception of very minor issues, it turned out as an absolutely wonderful holiday. Fantastic! The views we saw before booking, but the reality was 1000% better, the lovely terrace, super pool, surrounding ancient olive groves - all so wonderful . The bedrooms, beds very comply, bright bathrooms with good power rainfall showers and the kitchens clean and everything promised

The only misery was the weather - but, day trips and the good local restaurants - plus 3 out of 7 sunny days - all enjoyable.

Easy - very easy to say - this is a fantastic place to enjoy Tuscany - and, thanks to Terry for organising and being around for us.

You probably already have an idea of just how beautiful this region of Italy is: Rolling hillsides, fields of sunflowers and poppies, vineyards, fresh food and wine the natural warmth of the Tuscan people. These are just a few of the images you might have thought about when planing your vacation here in Tuscany.

Whilst you are here, we can help organise cooking classes, truffle hunting, car rental, scooter hire and more.

Then there are the Tuscan towns, villages and Markets

Anghiari, Arezzo, Cortona, Castiglion Fiorentino, Pienza, Montepulciano, Siena, Florence

Castiglion Fiorentino:-

This historic Tuscan Town lies at the center of a triangle formed by important cities such as Florence, Siena and Perugia.

Castiglion Fiorentino, originally an Etruscan settlement and later an old medieval village, lies close to the famous Valdichiana and Cortona.

The tower of the ancient castle dominates the town. This charismatic town has much to offer any visitor including its beautiful medieval walls, beautiful churches, art treasures and numerous Renaissance structures - e.g. the Loggia by Vasari at the Piazza del Municipio.

The first of the existing city walls, including Porta Fiorentina, the main entrance to the town's historical center, was erected in the 13th century, then enlarged in the 14th under the Perugians to connect the castle to the outside walls. An anti-gate containing the Medici coat of arms is located outside of the walls, while the inside of the gate is constructed of three arches under a statue of the town's patron saint, St. Michael. The town's fortress, the Cassero, was completed in 1367. In the 15th century, the nuns of San Girolamo used the fortress as a convent, and by the 19th century much of the fortress had been destroyed, with the remaining structure used as a prison

The Pinacoteca, or Municipal Art Gallery, occupies the former church of Sant'Angelo. Built on the site of an Etruscan temple, the church of Sant'Angelo was built in Romanesque style between 1229 and 1239. The church has served as a hospital, wine cellar, and workshop before being renovated and used as an official museum and art gallery

Castiglion also has many festivals throughout the year including the famous "Palio dei Rioni" on the third Sunday of June. A smaller version of the similar festival in Siena, the Palio dei Rioni is a horse race around Piazza Garibaldi, including a colorful display of the ancient custom of flag-waving, which dates back to the 13th century.

In addition to the spring poppies, summer sunflowers and the famous Tuscan Cypress and Olive trees the beautiful green hillsides and country lanes are a must for any traveler any time of the year.
