Overview

About the property

Rural, peaceful location

Old Spot Cottage, is a self contained, studio style cottage. It has a double bed, kitchenette, TV area and its own bathroom with shower over bath. (No separate bedroom)

It is ideally suited to those people that like walking, and the peace and quiet of the countryside. A car is essential. We have walks close by as well as those locally. Yet we are only approx 6 miles from Scarborough. Beautiful views over unspoilt countryside.

About Ruth Field

In 2007 we moved from the Boroughbridge area having been arable farmers. Family had moved to this area and, wanting to leave farming we decided to look for a small holding with options to start a new business venture.

Originally a bed and breakfast, we converted the first cottage, Curly Tail Cottage to a self catering holiday cottage in 2009. We followed this a few years later with Old Spot Cottage which is a studio style self catering cottage. We have some rare breed sheep which act as efficient lawn mowers! As well as a few horses on DIY Livery.

Ruth Field purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Ruth Field chose Scarborough

Apart from following family to this area, we have always enjoyed coming to this area as there are some beautiful walks within the National Park as well as being close to the coast. Both Scarborough and Whitby are within easy reach as are Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar. The National Trust owns some of the coastline at Ravenscar which is the holiday resort that never was.

Small but adequate. Beautiful location, amenities not far. Very helpful lovely owners.

Ruth was lovely, helpful and welcoming. Nice to arrive to welcoming packet of biscuits. Had dog bowls, poop bags and treats for dog. Kitchen small but has everything you need, and microwave would be useful however.

Just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for a week in September as a base for a memory lane visit to the area and were so pleased we chose this cottage. Ruth was a lovely host and made us very welcome. We visited Whitby, Filey , Scarborough and of course had a great trip on the steam railway from Whitby.

The cottage is lovely, has everything we needed and expected, it's in a beautiful location, peaceful but not remote.

We will revisit again happily in the future and would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Apologies to Ruth and Rob for the delay in doing this review - been very distracted since we got back home and kept forgetting to do it. Sorry! X

Peace and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

We've have just had a fantastic week's holiday at Old Spot Cottage.

Although it is only six miles from Scarborough (you can just see the castle across the valley) it feels as if it is miles from anywhere. It is so quiet and peaceful with only the wildlife to keep you entertained.

The cottage is well equipped with everything you could need for a short stay. Facilities include a small combi-cooker (remarkably versatile),TV, bathroom, double bed and all the usual cutlery and crockery for visitors to be self sufficient.

Perfectly located for the moors, Whitby and Scarborough with ample parking and the benefit of fresh eggs from many of the local farms.

Highly recommended- we will be back.

Awesome cosy little cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful holiday in beautiful cottage and location.

Warm cosy cottage which was very clean. Welcome pack of local biscuits and jar of ground coffee much appreciated. There was ample hot water through out our stay. The kitchen had enough equipment to prepare any meal we wanted to.

We wanted a quite peaceful holiday with lots of walking in the country side. We got what we wanted. Also close to historical sites for days out.

If wanting to holiday in this area again will most definitely look to booking again.

Lovely cottage away from it all yet only 6 miles fan from Scarbrough.

  • 4 of 5

Spent 4 days here and the accomodation had everything that we needed. We were made to feel welcome by Ruth the owner. The cottage is remote but in a lovely location to Scarbrough, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. The drive over the moors to Goathland and Pickering was stunning (although some of the roads are not for the faint hearted). We will definitely return again.

We enjoyed our stay. The little cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and it was a useful base from which to visit Whitby, Scarborough and also enjoy the countryside.
