About the property

Large 5 Bedroom, Off-grid Farmhouse surrounded by peace, nature and scenery

Remotely situated on the tranquil shores of Llyn Brianne reservoir in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains. Dalarwen is an idyllic, traditional Welsh farmhouse. Fully off-grid, there are no neighbours; telephone; mobile-phone signal or other distractions. Perfect for getting away from it all. All of our electricity is generated on-site using solar panels with a backup generator and the water is sourced from a private spring.

Ideal for artists, writers, walkers, astronomers, and wildlife lovers. There are plenty of local walks around the lake and surrounding forestry. Being isolated Dalarwen has very dark skies and is suitable for astronomy and astrophotography. Wildlife includes; Red Kites, Otters, Slow Worms and Nuthatches. Many of which can be seen from the house as well as local sanctuaries such as the RSPB reserves at Gwenffwrd and Dinas. There is also a local Red Squirrel and Pine Marten reintroduction project ongoing.

Dalarwen has five bedrooms to sleep nine, three of which have lake views: two doubles; two twins (one with bunk-beds); and one single. All bed linen and towels are provided. There are two bathrooms with showers, plus an extra wash-room downstairs. All hot water is provided by the Oil Range in the Kitchen with an immersion heater for backup. Downstairs there is a basic Kitchen with the Oil Range and a Gas Cooker as well. There is workspace and enough pots, pans, crockery and utensils for 9 people. There is also a Fridge with Freezer compartment and cold storage in the back lobby. The spacious living room contains a wood burning stove set in a large inglenook fireplace, and we have a large dining room and conservatory. Logs for the wood-burner are provided free in a lean-to outside. Outside there is a lawn and sitting-out area directly overlooking the lake.

There is plenty of entertainment provided for rainy days in the form of books; jigsaws; board-games and even an electric piano.

Please Note, Dalarwen is very remote:

We also have no mains water or electricity and our solar panels and generator can not cope with very high demands, although there will be more than ample for basic needs such as lighting, hot water, battery chargers etc.

Additionally the Spring water is not treated and you may wish to bring your own bottled water. We must also apologise, but due to our location we can not accommodate any pets.

What a magical place...

We stayed at the cottage between 18/24th August 2017 and had the most amazing time there. The cottage has beautiful views overlooking the reservoir which was a joy to wake up to each morning. There is absolutely no noise or light pollution making it so peaceful and a tranquil setting, perfect for escaping a busy life.

The cottage itself was the perfect size for our party of 9 (6 adults, 2 children and a 4m old baby). There was plenty to do around the cottage with the local walks and woods to explore, but also a lot of games and puzzles inside for the night time. From the cottage you can spot a lot of Red Kites and even have a few visitors in the garden (sheep) a few times!

The cottage is fully equity with everything you could need, ranging from the kitchen to the bathroom. With such a large group I was also pleasantly surprised that we never ran out of hot water or power so the solar pannels and generator are more than enough to cope.

My family and I love star gazing and this location was be most perfect I have ever seen. As there is no light pollution the sky was SO bright making it easy to work the constolations and even see a few shooting stars.

As the cottage is so remote the local town was about 25 minutes away in the car, which didn't bother my family at all. I always expect to drive a lot in Wales and this was a very small price to pay for the pleasure the cottage brings.

The reservoir attracts a few visitors to the Dam as well as hikers to the hills, but we rarely saw anyone else unless near the Dam itself. You could sometimes spot a hiker on the hill opposite the cottage, but they never venture as far as the cottage which was nice. From the Dam to the cottage is about a 40 minute walk, or a 5 minute drive. But if you drive the other way out of the cottage you can see the rest of the reservoir too which is stunning and has plenty of stop of and view points. In total it think it took at 1.5 hours to drive it all before reaching the Dam again.

I have stayed in many cottages throughout Wales and all have been peaceful, but nothing compares to the setting this cottage boasts. I couldn't recommend this more for anyone who is loooking to block out the world and get in touch with nature!

We will be booking again in the future for sure.

Superb short trip with a stunning proposal!!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything worked out perfectly. The communication prior to the visit and the logistics worked perfectly. As for the trip itself, it was flawless, it's a superb location and being off grid is very refreshing. I used the venue to propose to my partner and it couldn't have been any more perfect. Many thanks Fiona for everything you did for us, you made our day really special. We will definitely return in the near future for a longer stay. Cheers!!!!!!!!

Put your smartphone away and enjoy a few days away from life

  • 5 of 5

Off grid accomodation doesn't mean the world has ended........ Hot and cold running water, hot showers and central make coming back to this cottage after a long walk great. Kick off at the end of the day watching the sun set over the hills reflected in the calming water of Llyn Brianne. Take delight in not being disturbed for a few days by the daily blight of emails and Facebook; and if you must indulge then it's not far back to civilisation. We loved our time here. Thank you for a wonderful trip.

We had the best weekend away from everything. The house has everything you need and is in a beautiful location. It is remote, but you won't want to leave!

Fantastic house in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for 1 week at the end of October 2016. Our party consisted of 4 adults and 5 children.

We wanted for nothing, everything was provided that we could have possibly have needed. Wonderful views across the reservoir, waking up to that view was fantastic. A peaceful setting with some wonderful walks in the forests and around the reservoir. Sheep wandering freely around the surrounding area and sometimes wandering into the garden. We had no concerns about the children playing in the garden as the reservoir was far enough away not to be a risk. Settling down on the chilly October evenings in front of a roaring log burner was delightful. We arrived very late in the evening and as it was so dark we took a while to find the property so I would advise turning up during daylight hours! The lack of light pollution made it ideal for stargazing and even for us complete novices it was easy to see the constellations, after referring to the books at the house!

If you are taking children who are as active and noisy as ours you will have no concerns as they cannot disturb anybody and there is plenty of adventuring for them to do.

We thoroughly enjoyed getting away from technology, there is no phone signal or internet but if you need these things then it is not too far to travel get a signal.

The owner is very helpful and the information given was very useful.

A very enjoyable time had by all.
