About the property

2 beds, outstanding views of Dartmoor, fully furnished with WiFi, pet friendly

BUTTERCUPS - a unique opportunity to stay in one of three really cosy log cabins at Highampton which lies between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy. Our lodges are constructed from 8" pine logs and are exceptionally warm and welcoming. We offer clean, comfortable accommodation that has views which are absolutely fantastic - right across miles of beautiful Devon countryside to Dartmoor in the distance. South facing with undercover patio. Parking on your own driveway alongside your lodge and garden area for your picnics or for the children to play in. Our lodges are fully furnished for up to four people, and are centrally placed for both the north and south coasts of Devon, and for the North Cornwall Coast - Widemouth Bay and Bude being particular favourites.

Holiday for 7 nights or take a short break - our lodges take 4 people comfortably and can also accommodate a very young child in a toddler bed but this does make the second bedroom a little crowded so it would not suit everyone.

The recently updated kitchen has a fridge, freezer, electric oven with ceramic hob and a microwave and in the lounge there's a TV/DVD and superfast Wi-Fi throughout. The upgrade to the shower room was completed in 2017 - there's an electric shower and the water is mains, so no problem with pressure! There are heaters in all rooms and a log/coal burner in the living area. The veranda was replaced during October 2017.

'Superfast' WiFi, dog-friendly in Brambles and Buttercups, toy box with games for young children and a table-tennis table and swing-ball with equipment. The village of Hatherleigh is about 4 miles away with a good selection of cafes and shops. There's also a couple of pubs, supermarket + skatepark.

The lodges face south towards Dartmoor - with absolutely fantastic views. See our website for more photographs and details.

Highampton is a small village which is situated in Ruby country with it’s fantastic selection of trails for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The village of Hatherleigh is about 4 miles away and has a good selection of cafes and shops. There’s also pubs, supermarket and a new skatepark. The bustling town of Okehampton is a further 7 miles away. In the opposite direction about 7 miles away lies the pretty market town of Holsworthy with the beautiful beaches of Bude and Widemouth Bay a further 9 miles away.

We are centrally placed for all parts of Devon and Cornwall. The area is one of peace and tranquility, so if it's a quiet base you want for your holiday, then Dartmoor View Lodges is the place to be.

Highampton is a small village with a pub, school, village hall and visiting post office. Hatherleigh and Holsworthy are larger and have all the amenities you need. Our site is quiet and tranquil and wildlife is plentiful. In the early morning it is quite possible that you will see deer grazing and there are usually a lot of rabbits around and foxes pay the occasional visit. Birds thrive and we regularly see woodpeckers, tree creepers and buzzards even occasionally a kingfisher. Butterflies are also attracted by the many wild flowers that emerge in the spring.

About Andrew & Sally Walker

Recently relocated from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire where we ran a small business, we chose this fantastic location for the perfect home for us and our family plus it gives us the opportunity to provide fabulous self catering holidays.

Andrew & Sally Walker purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Andrew & Sally Walker chose Black Torrington

We have 3 genuine timber lodges to choose from - Bluebells, Buttercups or Brambles. Providing luxury self-catering, the lodges are well equipped and have a 4 star rating by a partner agent which guarantees good quality fittings and bedding. It also means we have to regularly update and maintain.

What makes this cabin unique

The location is the definition of peaceful and if you like wildlife, as we do, it really is perfect. We also get incredibly black nights as there is very little light pollution. It's also very well placed to explore Devon and Cornwall. Exeter is about 50 minutes away, Bude about 30 minutes. The site is surrounded by fields which is ideal for our daughters' horses and the views are dominated by the beauty of Dartmoor.

We had the pleasure of staying in Buttecups Lodge for a week. We found the site and Site and the Lodge very comfortable and VERY well appointed. Excellent views of Dartmoor and easily accessible to North Devon and North Cornwall.

Great stay !

  • 5 of 5

The weather was not on our side however we still went on some lovely walks in bude and cloverly. Spent the rest of the time relaxing by the fire place and forgetting about everything in london. It was perfect ! Andrew was a great host and was always happy to help.

Thanks allot !

Wonderful stay at Dartmoor View Lodges

  • 5 of 5

Just enjoyed a wonderful relaxing weekend at Dartmoor View Lodges. The clean fresh air, the wonderful views & the total peace and quiet are a wonderful antidote to the hustle bustle of everyday life. The lodges are cozy, clean and spacious with wood burning stoves for colder days and lovely outdoor patios and BBQ’s for warmer days. Sally and Andrew are fabulous hosts. They make you feel very welcome and are there if you need them yet there is so much space and with a private drive leading to the lodges, you won’t even notice they are there most of the time. There are some great local walks and the lodges offer a great base for exploring the lovely Devon countryside and beaches. Whilst we were there we had a great day at Exmouth Beach. Thank you Sally & Andrew. We had a lovely stay and hope to return for longer. xxxx

Delightful Find

  • 5 of 5

Family holiday in Buttercups for two weeks in August. Wifi was great as it supported video & music streaming. Web pictures of cabin did not do it justice. Linen & towel change on middle weekend, plenty of room on site to exercise our family dog. Helpful owners when needed otherwise did not know they were there. Good location for visiting North Devon & North Cornwall, as plenty to entertain and occupy all the family.

Two wonderful weeks in the south-west of England

  • 5 of 5

We had two wonderful weeks in Devon, Cornwall and the Dartmoor.

Our lodges were a wonderful accommodation and base for our excursions into the dreamlike landscape. We have always gladly returned to our accommodation and felt very comfortable there. There was nothing missing for us. Equipment and supervision by you were really great.

It was not easy for us to return to everyday life.

Already we miss the great view of the Dartmoor ...

Thoroughly recommend comfortable lodge

  • 5 of 5

We needed a break before the school holidays start and the grand-parenting gets going, and chose this location for a quiet yet convenient area to visit. Andrew and Sally made us very welcome and the high standard of the lodges meant our week at the beginning of July was excellent, with the uncontrollable bonus of good weather.

We look forward to returning some time
