About the property

6 Fasach is a refurbished, 100-year old traditional Skye cottage in the rugged North-West of Skye. It has beautiful views to the Macleods Tables, and across the Little Minch to the isles of the Outer Hebrides.

The self-catering cottage sleeps 4 in one double and one twin bedroom upstairs. There is a bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower over bath, with a second separate toilet. Downstairs there's a sitting room and separate dining room. Both have stunning views to the west over the sea to the Outer Hebrides. There is a well-equiped kitchen with oven, hob, washing machine, microwave, toaster, iron etc and plenty of crockery for 4 people.

All rooms are heated, either by storage or convector heaters and both sitting room and dining room also have wood burning stoves.

Set in its own grounds of about an acre with pleasant garden, babbling stream, "wild area" and picnic table to enjoy the views. There is plenty of parking.

We have owned the cottage for 12 years and love its location and traditional character. We visit as often as we can to get away from it all and enjoy the stunning scenery of Skye, fantastic walking and wildlife watching, accompanied by our two dogs who love it too!

There are many things to do: Walking - choose high level mountain scrambles (or climbs for the more adventurous), or beautiful coastal walks. Nature-spotting - look out for eagles, deer, otters, mewing buzzards; and out to sea, seals, basking shark, minke whales, dolphins, gannets and a host of other sea birds. Bring your binoculars!! Fishing - try your luck in Loch Pooltiel or at Neist Point. Mountain-biking and horse-riiding - from Portree. Eating and Drinking - the world-famous Three Chimneys restaurant is 3 miles away. The Old School House in Dunvegan is good. Portree has restaurants and a number of pubs. Fresh veg, salads, eggs and chutneys are available locally. Northern lights - look out for the aurora borealis. Star-gazing – enjoy star-gazing in some of the best starlit skies in the world.

Cozy cottage in stunningly beautiful landscape

Very quiet and comfortable for a good price

My wife and I stayed here with two friends in January, and had a wonderful time. It is a very quiet location overlooking the ocean at a distance, and is a convenient location for exploring the Isle of Skye. I loved sitting at the table and watching the sunrise as sheep walked along the road outside. And the view of the ocean was beautiful.

We stayed for 3 days, and the WiFi didn't work at all though I tried numerous troubleshooting steps. I contacted the housekeeper who relayed my message to the owners. They responded very quickly and were very helpful, but we never got the Wifi working during our stay. It was a little problematic because there is no phone signal near the cottage. However there is a small rec center down the road that has Wifi which we occasionally used.

Also, the cottage uses electric heat that is barely sufficient in the downstairs of the house. However the bedrooms and den stay very warm if you keep the doors closed. The fireplace would have been useful, but there were no convenient places to buy wood.

A bonus is that Glendale is a dark sky region of Scotland, so the night sky was incredible! I could see the Milky Way with the naked eye, and I even caught a glimpse of the northern lights on camera.

Overall it was a great time. I certainly plan to stay here again in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Just so that other visitors know, the WiFi is now working. Also, there is very good phone reception in the kitchen. Logs for the wood burners are available at Glendale Post Office, just down the road, and in Dunvegan a little further off - it's well worth getting the fires going to get the cottage really cosy. We're glad you were lucky enough to see the northern lights - the sky on a clear night is certainly amazing!

Really good communication from booking to arrival. Excellent directions, we drove 11hrs with 2 children and a puppy and we found the cottage straight away from the instructions given prior to our arrival.

Upon arrival the cottage was immaculate and we even had a bottle of wine waiting for us which was a nice touch after a long drive.

The cottage was so well equipped, we couldn't have asked for anymore. The surroundings are perfect and it is so peaceful we just wish we could have stayed longer! We have a 2yr old and 6 yr old that are used to ipads but being in the middle of nowhere with no Internet signal they had no choice but to go for long walks and play board games and they loved it! We hope to return soon but for a bit longer than 3 nights.

Lovely wee cottage, nice and warm, beautiful views and well equipped kitchen.

Well stocked post office just a short walk away. Even had ear plugs to deal with the storm force winds 😊 Although a few properties close by you still have a real sense of seclusion which is lovely. Felt very much like a home from home as soon as we walked in. Was great to sit in the evenings listening to the howling wind while feeling very cosy by the wood stove. Marks out of ten, definitely ten 😀

Great view with room for improvement

The cottage is well located and offers fantastic views over a valley and a Loch (Inlet) in the northwest of the isle of skye. The amenities of the cottage are something between spartan and ok. You can find almost everything you need. Almost due to the fact that we missed a dryer for our cloth, a broom or vacuum cleaner to get some dirt we got into the cottage away. Due to the fact that the cottage is equipped with a washing machine (without drying option) we can hardly understand why there is no dryer available beside the one in the garden. Given the fact that Scottish days can be rainy - especially near the sea - it seems to be very optimistic to trust on the dryer in the garden only.

Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay very much as the Isle of Skye offers amazing views, landscapes, beaches, mountains and walks.

Owner's Response: We take on board the comments about a tumble dryer and plan to install a new washer/dryer for next season as others have mentioned this too. The cottage does in fact have broom, vacuum, mop and a range of other cleaning equipment and materials in a walk-in cupboard under the stairs. Other recent guests have been enthusiastic about the cottage, saying “very cosy, loved it” (Sept 2016); “a lovely place to stay” (Aug 2016); “the cottage was splendid” (Aug 2016); “very comfortable, lovely house” (July 2016). In 10 years no-one has described it as “spartan” before! Update March 2017 - We have now installed a washer/drier.

Car: necessary

The cottage is situated in the rugged north-west of Skye. The stunning coastal scenery of Neist Point, the most westerly part of Skye, is a 10 minute drive away. It’s a superb place to walk and watch diving gannets, spectacular sunsets and, if you’re lucky, dolphins, minke whales and basking sharks.

Dunvegan with its castle, coral beaches, seal colony, shops, bars and restaurants is 9 miles away.

The world-famous Three Chimneys restaurant is 3 miles away.

The area is a wonderful base for walkers, bird-watchers, photographers and naturalists alike.
