Overview

About the property

2 bedroom cottage set in wooded valley with great walking and cycling with Wi-Fi

Robin's Brook self catering cottage is a hundred-year old former quarry-man's cottage in a quiet location, yet close to the village amenities of Porlock.

The cottage has one double and one twin bedroom, and a bathroom upstairs. Downstairs there is a comfortable sitting room and separate dining room, and a fully equiped kitchen. Central heating and open fires make it cosy in all weathers.

Outside there is an enclosed patio area at the back which is a sun trap in summer. A few steps across the lane is a large enclosed garden with fine views and Hawkcombe stream babbling down one side. There is great walking and cycling straight from the front door. Bicycles can be safely stored in the back garden. There are horse-riding stables just outside Porlock.

Porlock village is a half-mile walk and has a range of shops for all your day to day needs, plus a post office and a number of pubs, restaurants and tea rooms.

About Rachel and Chris Stott

We have owned Robin's Brook for over 20 years. We love Exmoor, and visit as often as we can for walks with our two dogs, visiting our favourite spots at Horner, Watersmeet, Woody Bay and many others, usually rewarding ourselves with a lovely cream tea! The next generation of our family is now enjoying introducing Robin's Brook to their other halves.

Perfect cottage location for visiting a beautiful area.

Very clean and comfy.

Garden is a quiet and safe spot to enjoy a drink and a book, with your dog or children close by.

Fantastic walks through stunning landscapes start from the cottage.

An enjoyable stay.

  • 4 of 5

Very good on the whole. Loved the location of the cottage. It had good views and a lovely garden. Very pleasant walk to the village, and lots to see and do in the area.

We were unable to get the oven working and couldn't find instructions. Apart from that, all was satisfactory.

Owner's Response: We're pleased that these guests enjoyed their stay. There is no problem with the oven which works perfectly. The instruction book is in the kitchen and readily available. We're always happy to discuss any issues guests have on the phone at the time, and could have sorted out their problem with the oven in a matter of minutes.

A cosy traditional cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is perfectly located in a tranquil valley, within walking distance of the shops etc in Porlock and with many lovely walks on the doorstep. It has a kitchen, dining room and living room downstairs and two large bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. There is a pretty lawned garden across the road and a concrete yard out the back. It was clean, warm and comfortable and had plenty of space for us as a family of four with a small dog. It is a traditional cottage, but we did feel the kitchen could benefit from an update and a dishwasher would have been welcome (as no-one wants to wash dishes when on holiday). The toilet cistern also takes about 20 minutes to refill - which wasn't easy with the demands of four people wanting to use it.

Great location up a quiet valley with walks from the door.

Unspoilt part of the Exmoor coast with lots to do. We only booked for 3 nights but would have loved to have stayed longer. The cottage was cosy and warm and the wine, flowers and milk were most welcome. The weather was cold but what can you expect in February!

Porlock is a good for cafes and galleries and even when the wind is cold the wooded comes give plenty of shelter. A return visit is high on the list.

Clean, cozy, and close!

  • 5 of 5

Robin's Brook was a perfect base for our stay in Porlock. It is quite spacious and well suited for our family of 4. It is close enough to Porlock for everyone to walk. The playground near the church is a perfect place for little ones (ours are 7 & 9) to blow off steam and the yard for Robin's Brook was great for a game of catch. The walks available in this area are amazing! The flowers, wine, tea, and milk left by the host were a warm welcome - and we very much appreciated the wifi and access to a washing machine. We could not have asked for more!

Just a note - although the kitchen is well-equipped, it is also very clean and tidy (just like the rest of the house). This means that there are no cooking staples or "left behind" items you might find in other kitchens. If you are planning to cook, remember to bring everything from oil to spices that you will use for your meal prep. There are two stores in town where you can buy staples (and some specialty items). In fact, you are close enough to walk to either of them and bring back whatever supplies you need if you did not stock before you get here. There is a larger store in Minehead, but we didn't need to go that far ourselves.

We would highly recommend Robin's Brook and hope to stay there again ourselves.

Robin Brook was lovely!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect, incredibly peaceful but within 10mins walk of Porlock with all its amenities and a great base to explore Exmoor. The house is spacious, comfortable and well kitted out for self-catering and we really enjoyed the garden when the weather was good enough. We took our toddler and although equipment like stair gates are not provided - we knew this when booking - it was fine for a timid toddler. We would stay again!

Robins Brook is in Exmoor National Park and is a great base for walking and other outdoor activities. You can walk up through Hawkcombe woods to the moor from the front door. Dogs love it and lots of the pubs and tea rooms are dog-friendly. Exmoor was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve in 2011 so the star-gazing is fantastic on a clear night.
