About the property

Beautifully restored cottage only 15 minutes from Cardiff. Mountain views.

A 2 bedroom 17th century cottage that has been renovated to a high standard. Situated on the side of Caerphilly mountain, the property has been lovingly restored to offer a sitting room with log burner, fully fitted kitchen with integrated washing machine, dish washer and fridge freezer and dining room. There is a free view flat screen TV in the sitting room. The main bedroom has patio doors leading onto a large private balcony where you can enjoy the spectacular views. Great for walkers. Car is not essential as there is a bus stop 10 yards away. The city of Cardiff is just 15 minutes away. Country pubs in walking distance, 3 golf courses within 5 minutes and the historic 12 century castle situated in Caerphilly town. There is horse riding, bowling, cinemas and zip wire fun all situated nearby. The property benefits from central heating and off road parking. Please note that wifi will be available from June 10th 2016. The property is on a main road, with easy access to Cardiff, Caerphilly and surrounding areas. At present there is a small seating area at the rear of the property. The remainder of the land consists of wild flowers, trees and lovely views. There is also a clothes line. Children would need to be supervised as the land backs onto the mountain.

About Laura Morris-Lloyd

We have been married for 28 years and have 3 children. We are both lecturers in the education system. Having renovated our own home we take a keen interest in old unloved properties and bringing them back to life once more.

Laura Morris-Lloyd purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Laura Morris-Lloyd chose Cardiff

I fell in love with Chapel House as soon as I saw the original bread oven and the Christmas tree in the garden. David, on the other hand, took a little more persuading. I watched Homes under the Hammer before attending the auction with my daughter and came home that evening as the proud owner of this wonderful property. However, it needed a lot of TLC. Over the following 18 months we replaced the roof, installed a log burner, central heating and complete rewiring to create a luxurious place to stay. We thought long and hard about the best layout for a holiday let and are very proud of the end result.

What makes this cottage unique

The stunning views of Caerphilly mountain and the surrounding area can be enjoyed from the personal balcony, leading from the main bedroom.

There are numerous walks/activities in the area, many of which are detailed on

Caerphilly town is just 15 minutes walk or you can catch the bus which will get you there in 5 minutes. The bus stop for Caerphilly is located directly opposite the front door of Chapel House.

Caerphilly Castle

Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly.

This 12th century castle, surrounded by a series of moats and watery islands was the brainchild of Gilbert ‘the Red’ de Clare, a redheaded nobleman of Norman descent. He also built the original Castell Coch, ‘Red Castle’, located the other side of Caerphilly mountain.

The Black Cock Inn Telephone 02920880534

You can reach the Black Cock Inn by walking up the hill outside the house. Carry on until the brow of the hill and on the right hand side take the road; this leads directly to the Black Cock. This is a easy 5-10 minute walk but you will need a torch in the evening as the country lanes are unlit. There is beer garden and play area. I would recommend booking.

Cardiff is only 15minutes away by car, bus or train.

Amazing place

  • 5 of 5

Such a lovely place is Laura’s cottage, an English gem with an outstanding view and a nice balcony on the main bedroom.

Place was very clean and tidy, we loved the fire place and everything was made so easy to use it. Check in was very easy and communication with Laura was great.

My sister, my nephew and my partner John also loved the place and we highly recommended it.

Chapel House is a warm, cosy cottage situated in an ideal spot for links into Cardiff

  • 5 of 5

We recently had the pleasure of staying in Chapel House from 30th March until 3rd April. The cottage was simply wonderful and proved an ideal space to make memories with loved ones. We enjoyed evenings by the fire with a glass of wine and lazy mornings relaxing in the comfortable surroundings. We arrived to a thoughtful welcome basket and especially enjoyed the Welsh cakes! Chapel House is decorated beautifully throughout and feels like a home away from home. The kitchen and dining area is spacious and extremely well stocked with all appliances you need. The living room is exceptionally cosy (we spent time re-watching episodes of Gavin and Stacey on Netflix...when in Wales as they say!) The bedrooms were very comfortable and perfect for a holiday lie-in. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t suitable for time spent on the balcony but we did sneak out to experience the amazing views once or twice.

We were sad to leave this amazing place and cannot wait until our next visit. We come to Cardiff a lot to visit family and this is the perfect place for us! We will recommend to all family and friends.

Thank you so much Laura and David

With thanks

Really good condition and helpful hosts

  • 5 of 5

Great welcome pack with essentials. House is in really good condition with everything you need for your stay. I would recommend having a car if you stay here. Great views as well (when it's not raining). We have a 4 year old and a 10 month old and it was suitable for them with supervision. Would recommend and Would stay again.

A lovely character cottage with lots of charm. Had everything we needed and a really good location.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was lovely and very well presented, with a tasteful, cosy lounge, lovely modern and well equipped kitchen and two neat bedrooms. We really appreciated the basket of goodies on arrival, including food for breakfast. The owners were available if we needed them and were really helpful. Be mindful if booking that the cottage is very old, although beautifully restored, and so has quite a steep staircase. We would heartily recommend this cottage. It makes a lovely base for a walking holiday or exploring the Cardiff area.
