About this property

17th Century cottage with mountain views on the outskirts of Cardiff

A 2 bedroom 17th century cottage that has been renovated to a high standard. Situated on the side of Caerphilly mountain, the property has been lovingly restored to offer a sitting room with log burner, fully fitted kitchen with integrated washing machine, dish washer and fridge freezer and dining room. There is a free view flat screen TV in the sitting room. The main bedroom has patio doors leading onto a large private balcony where you can enjoy the spectacular views. Great for walkers. Car is not essential as there is a bus stop 10 yards away. The city of Cardiff is just 15 minutes away. Country pubs in walking distance, 3 golf courses within 5 minutes and the historic 12 century castle situated in Caerphilly town. There is horse riding, bowling, cinemas and zip wire fun all situated nearby. The property benefits from central heating and off road parking. The property is on a MAIN ROAD, with easy access to Cardiff, Caerphilly and surrounding areas. At present there is a small seating area at the rear of the property. The remainder of the land consists of wild flowers, trees and lovely views. Plans for improving the garden have been put on hold due to the current pandemic but there is a seating area . There is also a clothes line. The boundary of the garden is clearly marked with a fence (new addition). Please note that there is an 18th Century graveyard next to the property and a main road to the front of the property so traffic noise is possible. This property is strictly no smoking and is not suitable for pets.

If any guests have symptoms of covid during your stay, please inform us immediately. I will leave black bags in the wardrobe and if you are able could you put your used linen and towels in these when you leave. This would be much appreciated and only added in these circumstances. We live 5 minutes away from Chapel House and will be on hand if you have any questions or concerns during your stay.

Charming cottage on outskirts of Caerphilly
We enjoyed a few days in a very cold February in this charming, characterful, warm and cosy cottage. It was well equipped with a modern kitchen and shower room, comfortable bed and effective central heating. The property is on a busy main road and the traffic was audible in the front facing lounge and twin bedroom. The traffic noise in the double bedroom at the rear of the property was barely audible, did not affect our sleeping, and had lovely views across the valley to Caerphilly and the adjacent wooded hills. Communication with our hosts was excellent.

We have been married for 33 years and have 3 children. We are both lecturers in the education system. Having renovated our own home we take a keen interest in old unloved properties and bringing them back to life once more.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with Chapel House as soon as I saw the original bread oven and the Christmas tree in the garden. David, on the other hand, took a little more persuading. I watched Homes under the Hammer before attending the auction with my daughter and came home that evening as the proud owner of this wonderful property. However, it needed a lot of TLC. Over the following 18 months we replaced the roof, installed a log burner, central heating and complete rewiring to create a luxurious place to stay. We thought long and hard about the best layout for a holiday let and are very proud of the end result.

What makes this property unique

The stunning views of Caerphilly mountain and the surrounding area can be enjoyed from the personal balcony, leading from the main bedroom.
There are numerous walks/activities in the area, many of which are detailed on
Caerphilly town is just 15 minutes walk or you can catch the bus which will get you there in 5 minutes. The bus stop for Caerphilly is located directly opposite the front door of Chapel House.

Caerphilly Castle
Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly.
This 12th century castle, surrounded by a series of moats and watery islands was the brainchild of Gilbert ‘the Red’ de Clare, a redheaded nobleman of Norman descent. He also built the original Castell Coch, ‘Red Castle’, located the other side of Caerphilly mountain.

Cardiff is only 15minutes away by car, bus or train.
