Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, sleeps a max 6, rural farm setting

Our newly converted stone barn can sleep up to a maximum of 6 people, including children. It has its own private out side decked seating and bbq area. Upstairs has 2 bedrooms, one double, one twin, cot can be provided, and there is a double pull out bed in the lounge, in front of the log burner. One bathroom with shower and a separate wash room.

Full kitchen, separate dining room and large lounge.

No washing machine or dryer.

Extensive gardens around the property and footpath access past our pigs, cows and sheep to the Blorange mountain.

We also have chickens walking round the farm so fresh eggs are usually always available.

Very short 15 min drive to the beautiful Market towns of Abbergaveny and Usk, where there are very nice pubs and restaurants.

Brecon and the Brecon Beacons National Park is also on our doorstep.

We are 5 mins from Big Pit, this is an amazing place to visit and descend into the depths of a real Welsh coal mine.

We are approximately 20 mins away from the M4 and the Celtic Mannor Resort with its World Famous golf course and beautiful Spa facilities.

Newport city is easily reached and Cardiff City center is well worth a visit.

Bristol Airport and Cardiff Airport are both approximately one hour away.

Check in is from 4pm on day of arrival and check out is by 11am on day of departure. This can be flexible depending on booking availability.

About Rhiannon and Andrew

We had a great idea, we wanted to live "the good life". So we found the right spot and that's what we are doing!

Rhiannon and Andrew purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Rhiannon and Andrew chose Pontypool

We finished converting the old stone barn this spring so no more sheep sleeping in it. With the beautiful green hills and major cities and historic attractions close by this is a great base to explore South Wales.

There is something for everyone...

  • 5 of 5

This property is fantastic. I can not fault it. Completed in 2016 and still looks like new. Our daughters first words, can we live here...

This is a self catering property with a full kitchen, open plan dinning area onto a decked private area, the dining area leads down to an open plan living area, with large windows and a log burner. Have to admit I did use almost all the wood for our four days here.

From the property a walk through the 40 or so acres through woodland and fields onto the common and there are then miles upon miles of walks. This property is great for families, animals to check on (pigs/chickens/cows/cats/dog/small children) and soon goats!!!!!!! There you go Rhiannon no excuses now....

This property is away from the main road so safe for children to roam - usually H&S... it is the country!!!! but also within striking distance of major towns and cities. Nearby you have the Big Pit - well worth a day there in the old working coalmine, just have to pay for the parking £3 p/day. Historic Abergavenny over the ridge and awesome views as you drive down through the valley.

Back to the property ‘Stone Barn’, you’ll have restful sleeps in the comfortable beds, great water pressure for showers.

The hosts are fabulous, any questions they are more than happy to answer, fresh eggs daily and an insight into small holding if you’d like to ask...

I can not fault our few days here, we all enjoyed it. Peaceful yet not remote. Thank you

Very spacious cottage in a lovely quiet setting

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage with a very spacious feel, really comfortable with a large wood burner and under floor heating. The cottage was very well specced and had everything we needed for a break.

Rhiannon was the ideal host, on hand to answer questions but not invasive. All facilities were like new and generally the house is finished to a very high standard. Would definitely visit again.

Beautiful Barn amazing property and location!

  • 5 of 5

Wow we booked this place last minute and we were so impressed! The pictures of the stone barn don't do it justice as it's just stunning! Situated on Mill Farm this was an amazing stay and lots of space for the children to explore. The farm cats, dog, chickens and cows were our favourites! It was a very relaxing place to stay and there are lots of things to do around here which were not far and a great location. Lots of beautiful walks and we did horse riding in the Brecon Becons which was breathtaking! Would highly recommend the stone barn it's has everything and more!

The walking in the area is fantastic, with routs for most abilities. The Sugar Loaf is a short drive away and the Skirrid with its land slip is a great favorite. Pop to The Skirrid Inn for a fab lunch and some spooky stories!

For flatter routs the Brecon Monmouth canal is a lovely strole.

The Velothon Wales passes us every year and we are 4 miles from the famous Tumble hill, that's a real challenge!

Dan-yr-Ogof caves are not to far away as well.

Big Pit and the Iron Works are very interesting Heratage sites and well worth a visit, being only 4 miles from us.

For special night out The Hardwick in Abergavenny or The Walnut Tree at Skirrid are World Famous restaurants with excellent food and wine. Both voted within the top 25 places to eat in the National Restaurant Awards 2014.

And if you like Golf, then The Celtic Manor is just 20mins away with its World Famous course.

We even have a dry ski slope in Pontypool.
