About the property

Beautiful Georgian house, 25 seconds walk from the sea, in the centre of conservation area in the old town of Deal, preserved in keeping with its age. Please dont expect new. Woodburning fire. All its original panelling, oil paintings, 2 bathrooms. This house is unique, one of the very few remaining of its kind anywhere. There's one thing that can't be replaced once it's all gone, and that is age.

Very atmospheric and enjoyable place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful house - it's feels like it would have 100 or 200 years ago, only with electricity and running water. It's very atmospheric and we had a lovely time - 2 adults and one 5 year old, who loved exploring the place. It doesn't have TV, central heating, wifi, but we were happy not to have that (you can access BT wifi for a fee if you need it). It was February and once the fire was on and a couple of radiators, we felt cosy. Thoroughly enjoyed it and hopefully will be back soon. Thanks to Lotta and Gregory for making us feel at home.

Unusual but challenging

  • 1 of 5

This house is certainly unusual and not without its own individual charm....but sadly lacking in basic facilities

Fascinating house, close to the beach

  • 4 of 5

The house is really interesting and a great place to stay, begging questions about who lived in it and when different changes were made to it. It does feel like staying in a film set or a mixture of sets from different films. It is very close to the sea, so you can have an early-morning paddle and the walks along the coast, particularly towards Dover, are beautiful. The lack of hot water (except in the shower) and slightly eccentric lighting makes it feel a bit like camping. On the other hand the beds and pillows are extremely comfortable and the bedrooms are lovely, particularly the main one. It's an experience well worth having.

This house is old,and we have kept it that way on purpose. The surfaces are old, please do not expect shiny bright new spotless surfaces. At present, due to boiler problems, while there IS a hot shower, there is NO HOT WATER FROM THE OTHER TAPS (more 18th century feel!).We use un-perfumed washing powder and cleaners when possible.
This extremely photogenic house can also be hired for photoshoots/filming at very cheap rates.
One of the very last houses in Deal's famous Middle Street not to have been modernised, done up, renovated, "restored" or otherwise ruined in the past decade's regrettable of spate of "gloss white gentrification" in which most of the renowned street's 18th century houses have been stripped, gutted, straightened out and painted white inside and out. The survivors are very few, this is said by many to be almost the only one. Some say the house is spooky, certainly atmospheric, but if it is, it has a very positive vibe. There has been a lot of happiness here. The wind whistles through the keyholes and makes an almost human noise. There are many original oil paintings in the building by various living painters. It has also been used by various writers of stage, screen and paper to write in. If you want to come here and paint you can, the top room can be, and has been, used as a studio.
Available for hire for readings, clubs, events, exhibitions, performances. It's aged, Georgian interior offers a unique and rare atmosphere and is suitable for many uses. No matter how unusual your idea is, we will try to accomodate you.
