About the property

Our family cottages welcome families with babies, toddlers & young children

With other toddlers and young children for yours to play with and an enclosed garden and safely enclosed heated swimming pool and toddler pool too you will be able to relax with a chilled glass of wine chatting to like minded parents whilst your children make new friends.

Allen family review of La Grange du Moulin, Papillon holiday cottage, children aged 6 and 4 years

''We have loved our second stay at La Grange du Moulin. The children say its been the ''best holiday ever'' ! They have loved making new friends, pottery and fabric painting and the pool, giving Mum and Dad the chance to relax. We've enjoyed a happy balance of socialising and quiet time. This is a great place to stay

with young children, especially with all the extra activities offered. Thank you Wendy and Chris !''

At La Grange du Moulin we have six cottages. Four sleep 6 people in three bedrooms each, one sleeps 4 in two bedrooms and one sleeps 8 in four bedrooms; so we have something for everyone. Prices quoted here are for the 3 bedroomed cottages.

This small cluster of cottages creates a lovely friendly environment in which to enjoy your self catering family holiday in France. You will quickly get to know your neighbours and your children will instantly make new friends whilst exploring the safely enclosed play garden. After a barbecue or al fresco dinner and the children tucked up in bed you can share a glass or three of wine with like minded parents sitting in the warm summer evenings just outside your cottage.

Chris and Wendy Blakeman welcome families with young children. (generally under 8 yrs in peak season and pre schoolers at other times) That means that there will be other like minded families with children, toddlers and babies

all wanting an enjoyable relaxing stay where there are other children for theirs to play with and they are not frowned upon when baby cries or their toddler throws a tantrum.

If your children are entertained then it usually means you'll be able to relax that bit more, so we offer lots of activities and the garden and cottages are filled with toys. Safety is of utmost importance too so the garden is fully enclosed and the pool area is enclosed with a child safety latch on the gate and alarmed for extra security too. We can also provide pretty much all the baby and toddler equipment free of charge , saving you room in the car or saving money on excess baggage !

All the cottages are fully equipped with everything required for a comfortable family self catering holiday including the all important dishwasher and washing machines. All bedding is provided in the price. We offer towel packs for hire but these are offered free of charge in low season.

About Wendy Blakeman

Since having our own children, the needs of young families on holiday were made even more evident to us. We have always

been a family location but we now specifically cater to young families where we not only provide pleasant self catering

accommodation but we can provide all the things required by a family with young children, from cots to steam sterilisers; saving

you room in the car and making your holiday run more smoothly. Entertaining children is a constant job; by providing toys,

slides, swings and of course our pirate ship, trampoline, pottery and T-shirt painting, scuba diving and other family activities

such as the weekly barbecue and family vine walks an all in a safe environment where there are other English speaking

children to play with too - your children are happy all day and I pretty much guarantee you'll have the time to finish at least one

book whilst staying with us !

Benjamin (born March 2003) and Thomas (born August 2005) are our two boys and they love the summer when they have new

playmates every week. We are loving parenthood especially in such a beautiful rural environment where they are free to run

around in great open spaces. They are both at the local school, which they adore and they are both as fluent in French as all

their French school friends. They play football and badminton, swim like fish and both play the piano.

In the winter time Wendy concentrates on being a Mum, taking the children to all their activities, participating in local events

(member of the parents association and also runs an English workshop at the primary school) and running the office side of the

business - updating the web site, taking bookings and dealing with all the French bureacracy ! Chris concentrates on improving

and expanding our business structurally, by renewing and repairing and we are also in the middle of building a whole new house

to let out on a long term basis, it will be our second. We have to take advantage of the winter period to take our

Wendy Blakeman purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Wendy Blakeman chose Saint-Pierre-de-Juillers

After many years of holidaying in this area, staying in my parents holiday home, we finally moved here in 1996. We havn't looked back since. After a number of years renovating stone barns into family gites, learning how to look after our guests and drinking many glasses of wine with them, we now feel very confident in our ability to offer just what young families like our own really need from

a holiday here in France. We have not, however, become complacent. We are constantly thinking of new ideas to add to the enjoyment, every year we update, replace, renew and re- paint as well as add. Our cottages today are very different from what they were when we first started out. In 1996, the most common question was 'is there an iron and a tea pot'. Times are different and

expectations are higher. We don't profess to be luxurious but we do have heated pools and a hot tub (and the champagne flutes to go with it !)

What makes this cottage unique

Our property is exclusively for families with young children. This means you will be holidaying with like minded parents who are understanding and owners who are helpful and can provide everything you need for your baby and toddler.

We offer lots of activities and the play garden will provide endless fun - when your children are entertained you can relax that much more. It's not a big site though - so you will quickly meet all the other families and you may well make as many new friends as your children do.

Even in peak season you may often have the place to yourselves and because the children are young they are tucked up in bed nice and early so you can enjoy a peaceful evening chatting with other parents, watching the stars and enjoying a glass or three of wine !

Over the years we have developed the wine theme to our guests stay. This sets us apart from everyone else. Chris worked all his adult life in the wine industry, selling, buying and teaching wine, its also a passionate hobby. We offer several wine related activities.

Wendy has become a registered child minder here in France, so now can look after you children during the day to give you a break and some time to

relax even more . You can rest assured in the knowledge that you also have a capable babysitter on hand so you can enjoy a night out too.

Our family friendly gites in the Charente Maritime region of Sw France are very centrally located for all the main towns.

La Rochelle, Royan and Rochefort on the coast and Poitiers, Angouleme and Niort inland are all just an easy one hours drive at most.

Saintes and Cognac are closer still and have plenty to keep both adults, children and toddlers occupied and entertained.

Even Bordeaux with its world famous vineyards and wineries are just a 1hr30 drive away.

The Charente Maritime has literally hundreds of miles of beaches, all with soft sand and most with sheltered shallow waters, perfect for young children; there are also miles of beaches along the islands of Ile de Ré, Ile d'Oleron and Ile d'Aix which have some great waves for the older children to body surf

Since our guests all have young children, evenings are often spent chatting with fellow guests, after the children are put to bed. A few glasses of wine under the stars and pleasant

company - it's a night out without having to actually go out ! Since there are just six cottages all the guests find they usually have quite a lot in common, so many an evening is spent sharing a bottle of local wine you have discovered with your neighbours.

Since Wendy is a registered child minder (and mother) you can rest assured your children will be safely looked after if you do

decide to spend an evening out at one of the many restaurants in St Jean d'Angely.
