Sleeps 5, balcony, in the heart of the Costa Brava

This light, airy spacious and well appointed apartment is situated in the beautiful small fishing village of Tamariu, on the Costa Brava with a beautiful sandy beach and coastal paths to other bays. Nearest town is Palafrugell with bars, restaurants and local market and it is only 35 mins from the medieval city of Girona and the stunning coastline of the Costa Brava is on your doorstep. Horse riding, golf, scuba diving and skiing are all accessible for great days out and there is local boat hire and boat trips from Tamariu and Llafranc. Botanical gardens in Calella are 10 minutes drive as are the ruins of Ullastret. Dali's museums are 10 and 40 minutes drive away and the chic resort of Platja D'aro with its water park, offering 5 miles of promenade and restaurants is 20 minutes drive. Tamariu is equidistant from Barcelona and the French border and the Pyrenees if you want to venture further (1.5 hours drive).

About Jon Kay

Jon, Cindy and family live in Brighton, and have always travelled as much as possible for both work and pleasure. When we started our family we were determined to continue to be able to get away quickly to somewhere where we could be untouristy and get the kids to experience culture and language as well as beautiful scenery. We can get to Tamariu door to door in four hours (at a pinch, planes permitting!).

Why Jon Kay chose Palafrugell

Cindy worked in Girona and fell in love with the Costa Brava, so Tamariu was the obvious place to buy a property abroad. We have owned it now for 14 years, and the kids have grown up loving the pool, the beaches and hiking through the woods, as well as piling down to Platja D'Aro for the water parks.

What makes this apartment unique

the apartments tend to be quite quiet as the majority are owned by Catalans from Barcelona who tend to arrive on Friday and go on Sunday evening, leaving the large 25 metre pool and landscaped gardens uncrowded. The kids' room has three captain's bunks which give them all their own space, and being on the top floor we're seldom troubled by mosquitoes.

Quiet, relaxing and in a good position

We are a family of 5 and really enjoyed our stay. The flat is on the top floor of a well kept apartment block. It is quiet, safe and modestly decorated. The lounge and balcony are a particularly lovely feature. However, the kitchen is very basic. The hob didn't work and the kettle was broken when we arrived. The company who we got the keys from were very swift and helpful and replaced the kettle the same day. The Internet was deceptive. It stated in the details there was Internet and wifi. Actually, this was in the form of 'easymifi' portable wifi connection which in reality only lasted a very short time if you wanted to access YouTube for instance. I would suggest providing a DVD player in the apartment for future guests.

The bedrooms are well presented and clean. We have 3 children who happily shared the 2nd bedroom. The bathroom was clean and the shower had great pressure. It could do with a new curtain though!

The pool at the apartment was great! It's easily accessible, huge and very well kept. We all really enjoyed spending time there.

Overall I would really recommend this apartment to families.

Well located apartment with fantastic, large communal pool

We had a great time in this property. It was perfectly located in the beautiful Tamariu, just 8-10 minutes walk down the hill to the beach. The apartment also has access to a really large swimming pool in its grounds, and there is a nice community feeling around the apartment block. The apartment itself was tidy, comfortable and functional (and easily accommodated myself, my wife and our three small children), and has amazing views across the pine-forested hills from its balcony. The U.K.-based owner was responsive and helpful.

Everything is 30 years old in the apartment

We obviously booked very late for the summer abd had little options but still there are no words to describe how outdated everything is inside the apartment, including all the appliances that are malfunctioning.

Such a shame the apartment isn't maintained properly, which should be required when renting out weekly.

To note as well, there is no aircon and in Spain it can be extremely hot.

Finally, the rental agency in charge of the property is extremely messy or has bad communication with the owner, our name for the reservation wasn't with them the night before our arrival and when we checked in at 6pm the place wasn't cleaned so we had to call them and they had to find emergency cleaning ladies to come and clean it in 20 minutes...

Beautiful, family friendly location

The apartment is very well appointed and comfortably furnished. It was clean and well equipped and spacious for our family of four.

The view from the balcony was amazing and we had most meals out on it - the benefit of fifth floor living was no mosquitos and only a couple of flies in two weeks!

The pool was very well maintained, as were the surrounding gardens and although we were there in late July and early August, it never felt too crowded.

The owners were friendly and helpful and really made our stay a special one.

This is a great base for those who like walking due to the myriad of coastal paths in the area. Scuba diving and boat hire are available at both Tamariu and Llafranc, and the Medes Islands 30mins further north are a protected marine park with some of the best diving in the Med. If archaeology is your thing the ruined Roman city of Empuria Brava is 35 mins drive away, and the pre-Roman Iberian settlement of Ullastret is only 20mins away. Numerous walled villages such as Pals and Peratellada and Begur on the coast add to the history. The stunning walled Roman city of Girona is only 40mins away. If you are a wine buff you are in the heart of the Penedes and Torres wine growing regions with numerous small vineyards offering tasting and tours all within 45 mins of the apartment.
