Modern comfort meets old town charm in our centrally-heated 1 bedroom, 1st floor apartment.

Views of the castle from the communal roof area (the old drying green!) are among the best in Edinburgh. Well equipped, suit 2 or 3 people.

This apartment is ideally located for a holiday in Edinburgh. All the major tourist attractions are within easy walking distance:

15 minutes walk to Edinburgh Castle.

Shops, cafes and restaurants of the Grassmarket on your doorstep.

Views of the Castle from the surrounding streets

Heart of cultural Edinburgh - Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh Filmhouse, Usher Hall within 5 minutes walk.

6 minutes walk to Edinburgh International Conference Centre, 10 minutes to George Square and the main Edinburgh University buildings.

Check in between 3pm and 8pm. I'm sorry not to do later check in but this is a residential property and neighbours have requested this. Please ask if you are arriving in Edinburgh before 3pm - you may be able to drop bags and pick up keys earlier.

Two friends travelling together but you want separate beds? For an extra £20 per stay we can give you bedding for the comfortable sofa bed - just ask when booking.

Shared roof space is for hanging out washing, or simply enjoying the view of the castle.

About Gill Lee

I was a student in Edinburgh many years ago and have returned after nearly thirty years in London. I love this city: the history, the wide skies, the fact that the castle is on an extinct volcano, and all the cultural goings on. Along with my family, I love going to Edinburgh Hogmanay, the film festival, the science festival, the blues festival, the fringe and international Arts festival. You can easily reach the countryside and the sea, and even the Highlands are not too far for a day trip.

Why Gill Lee chose Old Town

The views from Bread Street and the surrounding area are fantastic. If you stay in Edinburgh it's lovely to see the castle as you do your grocery shopping. I fell in love with this flat when the door opened to the 'drying green' and I saw the view of the castle - can't wait for the festival fireworks! The flat is full of light, with the high ceilings I always think of as typical of Edinburgh living. The location is great - right in the heart of the old town, a quick stroll home after an evening out.

What makes this apartment unique

I hope you enjoy the blend of modern comfort and old town charm in the flat! The communal roof terrrace allows you to hang out your washing, or take out one of the seats provided in the flat and enjoy the view or the festival fireworks.

Perfectly located!

Owner Gill personally greeted us and showed us the do's and don't of the apartment. It is perfectly located within a 5-10 minute walk of Grass Market, Hay Market, Old and New Town. Grocery store is a 1 minute walk. Great restaurants everywhere. The apartment has everything one would need. Comfy bed, nice shower, full kitchen, clothes washer and secure entrance. The roof top terrace has an amazing view of the castle. Grab a chair, a bottle of wine and soak up the view. I would definitely rent this apartment again.

Charming flat in a great location.

Gill was a gracious host, she had information all organized in a folder along with information on the surrounding area. The location was perfect for our visit; almost everything was a short walk or bus ride and she shared some apps that made that easy.

We'd definitely stay again if in the area.

An excellent apartment!

We spent a week in Gill's lovely apartment in the Grassmarket area just below Edinburgh castle. Gill was a great host and the apartment is conveniently located so that we were able to walk to all the major sites. The apartment is well equipped and very clean with plenty of space to spread out and relax at the end of a day of sightseeing. Comfy sofa, comfy bed, great shower and plenty of hot water, too! The view from the roof deck is amazing! We will definitely return when we visit Edinburgh again.

Wonderful, modern but cosy apartment, perfect for exploring Edinburgh.

Recently refurbished apartment in a very central location. We found it a perfect size for the two of us, but would suit a small family too. Gill was extremely friendly and helpful, and did everything she could to make our stay a memorable one. Highly recommended!

Lovely apartment

Gill's place is great! It is very central, close to all of Edinburgh's attractions, and offers everything one needs to feel at home. Gill is a very attentive host and communication with her couldn't have been more smooth. Arriving at the apartment, I received a very warm welcome including a cup of tea and many great tips on what to do in the city. A great start to an even greater vacation. The apartment itself has been clean and light, with a kitchen that offers everything to prepare your own meals, and the bed is really comfortable as well. While all windows in the apartment face a fairly busy road, it was never loud and getting a good nights sleep never an issue. The city itself is just beautiful and I have enjoyed my stay immensely. The city offers everything from culture, to shopping, to great scenery, and while it isn't small, you can still walk everywhere and it has such a cosy feel to it. I would highly recommend both the city itself as well as Gill's place!

Bread Street is right at the heart of Edinburgh's old town. There are views of the castle from many of the surrounding streets. Theatres, cinemas , restaurants, pubs and cafes are on your doorstep. You don't need a car or even a bus to visit most of the main tourist attractions - they are a stroll away.

Fancy a game of golf? Only 15 minutes away is the beautiful Braid Hills Golf Course with views over the city and Arthur's seat - trolleys and clubs can be hired and you don't have to be a member to play.

In town for the rugby? Murrayfield is 10 minutes away by public transport or a 30 minute walk.

Some of the more established residents find change hard.
